This was the same but with all of morbid angle I listened to them over and over wanting to like them but finally after like my 8th try something clicked and I love them now

Heretic is my favorite at the moment. The two rhythm guitar tracks are so strange and at times in different worlds- it creates color and evokes strong imagery. The lava is, of course, masterful. Petes drumming SWINGS and shuffles. Tucker is powerful and direct. The instrumentals are my favorite of any MA album. Contrary to most, I enjoy the production especially in headphones. It doesn’t sound like any other death metal album I’ve heard in any respect. Runners up would be Formulas then Covenant. I am in the Trey Azagthoth camp- he is the band. I do appreciate David’s legendary performances and energy but too many people miss out on their whole discography because they think it started and ended with David.

I bought Blessed are the Sick on casette the day it came out. My favorite Morbid Angel album. In my top 5 Death Metal albums of all time.

Cool that I actually found someone else who doesn't think Covenant is the be all end all of Morbid Angel's discography. My favorite is Abominations , which I believe would have made a huge impact if was released in 86 to the mainstream as intended. Death Metal history re-written.

Scoring Heretic so low is baffling to me. It’s in my top 3. The interplay with the guitars and drums are next level stuff. The production doesn’t give me ear fatigue when I blast it at top volume which is an amazing accomplishment when it comes to death metal. Completely underrated...

This is a pretty solid list man, I agree with the majority of your list but I’d have to shift it around slightly for mine: 9- Illud 8- Heretic 7- Kingdoms Disdained 6- Formulas Fatal to the Flesh 5- Domination 4- Covenant 3- Altars of Madness 2- Blessed are the Sick 1- GATEWAYS TO ANNIHILATION (I’m a sucker for 7 string carnage)

"I" record (2011) In a strange way Illud is a gem in the Morbid Angel catalogue. Broke new ground in "Extreme" music. if it was "TOO EXTREME" for some, at least they did give you a warning."This is your one warning" remember shirts with ' Extreme music for Extreme People' pushing limits of comfort zones, Satanic as Fuck. Yeung played the hell out of his kit. "Nevermore" was in the band's set years before recorded has more of Pete's signature on it. "Mea Culpa" is like a culminating Frankenstein to the album. "my fault" as if they knew they created an Absolute Abomination. Crazy fast blast and slow grooves , crazy guitar layering. New sounds for sure! Vincent's vocal style and range is maddening.Can hear him do similar stuff with Vltimas. having said that. 1. G 2. FFF 3. A 4. D 5. C 6. B 7. H 8. I 9.K

I would put Blessed as number 1, because it is the album that I got me into Morbid Angel.

I love how on Illvd Div David literally decided to make a pseudo theme song for the band (I’m Morbid) two decades and 8 albums in to the band’s existence.

Morbid will always be my fav death metal band minus like u said 2-3 albums are mid but the rest..... MAN talk abt heavy, catchy, and just tooooo inspirational

I actually met the guitar player Trey Azagthoth a long time ago. He doesnt live too far from me. Anyway here is my ranking of albums out of 30 points as I have done in the past. Illud Divinum Insanus (12/30). This is alright at times sometimes seems as if it is a totally different band. Kingdoms Disdained (19/30) Sounds very death metal like but production wasnt great and every song sounds kind of the same. Domination(20/30) Vocalist does not sound great here. He would leave the band after this album. Heretic (21/30) Great vocal delivery great guitar work just not enough of everything. Altars Of Madness (25/30) Great debut songwriting is complex a couple too many blastbeats for me Gateways to Annihilation(25/30) Awesome album. Many songs are sludgy which I enjoy. Formulas Fatal to the Flesh (26/30). Great use of tempo variety here. Strange lyrics too. On Invocation the guitar player actually does the vocals! Blessed Are The Sick (29/30) The first death metal album I ever heard. Title track is the first death metal track I ever listened too and still consider it Morbid Angels best song. That riff and flute at the end is amazingly creepy. Lots of good instrumentals including Desolate Ways composed by the late Richard Brunelle (RIP). Covanent (30/30) One of the best death metal albums in history. David Vincent sounds like a beast great guitar rhythms and solos wonderful tempo changes and flows. Awesone drumming by Pete with not too many blastbeats and finally at the end God Of Emptiness!!! Great video my man. You keep getting better and better.

If I had to rank their albums from best to worst it would probably be 1.blessed are the sick 2.gateways to Annihilation 3.Covenant 4.Altars of madness 5.Domination 6.Formulas fatal to the flesh 7.heretic 8.Kingdoms Disdained 9. Illuid div Insanus I Honeslty think the first 7 albums are near perfection, the last two are either just decent or horrible

Im glad someone else found gateways.. up there. Production amazing. Tight as fuck. And although not technically complex as others, it's literally death/doom rhythmically taking you down into, oh wait a minute.. gateways to annihilation:)

Covenant was my first death metal album so it has a sweet spot you can't lie

Great vid, Domination is my favorite and Hatework is my favorite song on that album, so underrated. I do enjoy some Illud. Might be because I like industrial, and there's a lot of variety on that album, but yeah I get why it gets all the hate.

Picking a least favourite Morbid Angel record is very easy (do I even have to say it?) but most favourite is....well, not easy. I'd probably pick "Altars Of Madness" as well though - that sound mix is fucking INCREDIBLE even by today's standards, and this represents Morbid Angel at their most primal.

@@Questformetal honestly, I've always wondered the same - there are plenty of fans that would rush to the defense of records like "St. Anger" and "Repentless", so I'm certain there must be a small minority of fans for "Illud Divinum Insanus" to call upon.

MA is and always will be my favorite Death metal band. Sure they released a couple of stinkers, but other than that they have one of the most consistent discographies by any Death metal bands imo. Covenant 1-5 may change a bit from day to day. They‘re all absolutely amazing. 8 and 9 made me stop listening to their music sadly. They were my favorite DM band up to the release of Heretic, but then it went totally downhill.

For me its Abominations of Desolation, then Altars of Madness (bought in 1989, then I got Abominations on bootleg LP in 1991, then it was offically released by earache on all formats), Covenent, Blessed Are the Sick, Domination, Gateways to Annihilation, Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, Heretic (terrible production), Kingdoms Disdained (basic death metal), Illud Divinum Insanus (used toilet paper and full on bloody diarrhea)...

I just listened to a couple of songs from that Illud divine album and I never heard worst noise in my life

I give Illud Divinum Insanus respect for trying new and different, experimental styles that forced the following album to be predictible and safe. Since the hiatus I felt bands like Behemoth and Septicflesh rubbed on them too much.

Alters #1, that shit is borderline heresy lol. Id say gateways 1, dominate 2, covenant 3 and formulas 4. Fucking incredible catalogue pre 2002 lol.

I LOVE KINGDOMS DISDAINED

I gotta disagree with the list. Gateways to Annihilation goes to the top for me. The dynamics in the songwriting, with Erik Rutan on second guitar was on point on this album. There's more dimensions, and depth. Things like on Summoning Redemption one guitar tremolo picking, while the other is doing triplets is brilliant layering, and using a stereo recording of a frog in Trey Azagtoths yard layered into the first two tracks was so unique, and brilliant. The drumming is on point, and Steve Tucker sounds way better on that than on any of the Vincent albums.

Illud Divinum Insanus BEST

Entangled in Chaos is the best Morbid Angel album.

I’d place FFTF above Covenant, Domination, and Gateways!

I always hear they’re so good..I bought gateways at my local record store..and I absolutely hate it. I LOVE most bands from that era..but this album is shit. So am I crazy or do people agree?

My list The essentials: 1. Altars (perfect album) 2. Covenant (has 1 filler interlude but perfect apart from that) 3. Blessed (they fuck up with those filler interludes but still essential) Great albums: 4. Formulas (lots of lame fillers that should not be on) 5. Gateways (has those horrible frog noises on the first track) I don't even listen to them: 6. Domination 7. Heretic 8. Kingdoms 9. Ilud (shit)
