"nothing gets old faster than a new sound"
Such a cool filterbank with interesting other bits.
I think your first video was fair. People need to know what they are getting on its own especially since this series is for hobbyist modular types. Still not sold on this. This thing is the equivalent of the Minifooger pedals we pretend never happened.
Bought it love it keeping it
Pretty sure the Labyrinth was conceptualised (though obvious never manufactured in any form, Moogfest or otherwise) before the buyout.

Definitely. As we see with the Spectravox, these things are in development for a few years before they hit the market.
I think the Spectravox is made for experimentation. I am going to control at least 8 of the 10 Frequency Inputs with either an 8 stage shift register or an 8 stage analog shift register. I am still waiting for my vendor to get this in stock, so I will build the circuits while I wait. It might be really cool or it might sink, but I will not know until I try. The Spectravox should offer many ways to make recursive generative music and as it has an EG to amplitude, it can be midi synched, via something like a CV OCD.
Great demos, thank you. I don't see myself getting this anytime soon, though. The filters sound ok, especially as a guitar pedal it sounded good, but it doesn't exactly rock my boat. As a vocoder it sounds terrible, I haven't heard a single demo where the result is anything but barely audible, not even in the official Moog videos. Once I get bored of the sound of my Sound Studio 3, the filters might be worth it to find new sounds.
Have you tried 🎤 ing up an acoustic guitar? I bet (based on what I've heard so far) it would sound very interesting. Using the vocorder
Good stuff. Yeah lots of possibilities. The guitar effects sound pretty good. Hope you have fun with it.
That’s probably the best pairing-the KORG Cheeselogue and the Moog Spectrajunk. Bought one and (quickly) returned it. The Mother 32 and DFAM are better buys in my opinion.

Even the Mavis (the synth with the redneck name) is a better buy. C’mon now, Mavis! In all seriousness, I own a Mother 32, DFAM, Subsequent 37, and a Minitaur; I ordered one of these and was completely underwhelmed. Hopefully the Labyrinth is a winner.

*I returned mine as well 🤫
thought it might go nicely with the keystep pro and dfam for complex melodies but im still not sure its worth price
Great video, but I wish they had made these so it was possible to double the number of bands by combining two of them together. I guess that might infringe on the market for their £5000 16-band vocoder though. But I'm just speculating...
It is *a piece of gear* for sure, but I'm not in a huge rush to pick it up. I have the Sound Studio 3 with a 4 tier rack. I have one slot left - I'll hold till the Labrynth becomes available. Either way, both pieces are Behringer's next two clones.
@asynchronicity

Behringer won’t be cloning this. It’s too complex and niche…wouldn’t be worth it.
@SpaceCapsuleOne
Ай бұрын
@asynchronicity Perhaps. Time will tell. I'm of the opinion that if it's part of the Moog Sound Studio lineup, Behringer will do it. This on top of the fact that Behringer has already cloned the Fixed Filterbank for the System 55 I don't think this (nor the Labrynth) is beyond their reach. That said, if given the choice between the Labrynth or a clone by Behringer, I'd still pick the Labrynth. Either way, the Spectrovox is something I might pick up way, way down the road on the used market.

@@SpaceCapsuleOne of course it isn't beyond their reach. But would it really be profitable at all? I highly doubt that. We will find out soon enough though!
This one is hard to justify, imho.
The top two bands weren’t turned up when you were using the vocoder. That probably affected the intelligibility, not that it’s very good as a vocoder anyway. It’s more interesting as a filter bank. Have you use it with the Matriarch yet?
@Tiger.Arcade
Ай бұрын
When the top two bands are up too high there is wayyyy too much hiss so I dialed them back to make it more intelligible. I have also used it with the matriarch and it sounds great. Difficult getting the chords how I want them sometimes since it’s paraphonic.
Obviously aimed at the modular folks where there are far more interesting alternatives. 4ms spectral resonator is not exactly the same thing, but the different capabilities and lower cost are attractive. If you have the coin Frap Tools or Verbos have MUCH higher quality builds for something like this.
I still think the Roland vocoders sound better! Could’ve saved yourself some money dude bought some guitar pedals or one guitar pedal that does a whole bunch of stuff. You always do great videos though thank you.

The vocoder is is not as bad as it seems from this video. But it takes time to learn and adjust the program and carrier levels to avoid heavy distortion. Best results are achieved with a sawtooth chord carrier.
Are as far as vocoders go I don’t like the sound. It sound like if a vocoder was broken or making a lot of bad unwanted noise

The white noise that pops in when using the vocoder sounds like shit. As a filter bank this is cool, but it's like they didn't even try with the vocoder
Not a very inspiring box of tricks . I was hoping someone would demo it with a Bass Guitar ,to see if it would surprise me . Thanks for using guitar though to confirm it's not for me . I have the moog grandmother , dfam and minitaur. I was going to get sound studio but I'll stick with what I have moog wise . Regarding analogue effects , I'm using the Boss ME8-B which works fantastically well with the minitaur ,and tbh blows this out of the water ..only imho of course . The drum machine sounds weak in this demo also . Good that you tried it though.

@@Phil-uh7knI had an issue where the LFO can always be heard no matter what mode I was in. It was very faint but could still be heard cycling. The vocoder jack was cheap plastic and would cut in and out if the cable was barely touched. I was also disappointed in changes such as no printed manual and the cheaper build quality than previous Moog products.

this is such a stupid fucking take that I can't believe I am bothering to respond to it. It is functionally and demonstratively the same as the version from Moog-fest (minus the change from faders to pots and the addition of the cv control/out jacks), in what way is it not a Moog product? Because the boards previously built oversees were then assembled oversees instead of in Ashville? Ridiculous.

@@kierenmoore3236 I think this is a good example of the biggest problems-- people don't get what this thing actually is. It is a Spectral Processor that can be used as a vocoder, but it isn't just a vocoder. How well do the "'good" vocoders do at all the other things a Spectral Processor can do?
