Well because I purchased a lot of gear at once, I haven't dug into it too deep as of yet, but from what I have, its really nice to own. It has the sound of old school techno from the get go. Paired with the Mother 32 and a sampler it's well worth the purchase for me. Never thought of it as a drum machine. I'm not disappointed at all. I love the sequencer tweak knobs. It has a lot of potential. I hear sounds in it that totally stands out and makes it original. Maybe not for every one but it works for me. In fact I'm gonna mess with it now. Feeling inspired...lol

No input needed. The little rubber knobs on the sequencer is laid out like an one octave keyboard, and you can play them like one. But to be honest its not too fun. Nice to have if you don't have a keyboard to midi into it, but it will get you going if you have no other gear. I use a Roland SH-01A with its little K-25M keyboard attachment to play notes and sequences on the Mother32 via midi out from the Sh-01A to midi in on the Mother. The Sh-01A's sequencer is super easy and fun to program. I can save the patterns on it to. But yeah the M32 has the ability to be stand alone. Saving patches on the mother 32 is a matter of either remembering where all the knob and switch positions are. I just take a picture when I find a sound I like so I can recreate it later. The DFAM has cardboard patch overlays that tells you where to position everything to draw up a patch. I dig putting in the work to make my own original sounds though. BTW, I got all my gear from zzsounds.com pay as you play program. Otherwise I'd be shit out of luck for gear. If your not hip check it out and get you one! I just Uber one weekend a month to pay for it all. Looking to get a King Korg after its all paid off.

Ahhh why is no one patching this thing!?! Like does the sequence do any line step changing or randomness because otherwise I'm bored...I mean the sound is beefy and amazing but...idk maybe I'm selfish haha

Anybody else totally dislike this DFAM? I have yet to hear an actual drum sound, it just sounds like random noise in every demo. And it can't store presets so that's shitty. I'd rather buy an actual analog drum machine.

EightySix as a standalone device its lame, but if it's part of a bigger modular rig it's probably great.

Mr. Irrelevant - That's irrelevant... no but seriously I have a minitaur and I have heard almost all of these sounds while tinkering around making presets.. I guess I'm just underwhelmed.

"I have yet to hear an actual drum sound" And thank goodness for that! We already have hundreds of machines that imitate drums, I don't think we need one more. This should not be called a drum machine, and it shouldn't have the word "drum" anywhere in its name. Even "percussion" is pushing it. It's a *synthesizer*, period. The only reason to call it "percussive" is that its envelope is limited to very fast attack or slightly slower attack. I think "rhythm synthesizer" is perhaps a better description. But it can be made to play melodically, even legato. It can sound completely non-percussive if desired, which you can't say of an 808, etc. This instrument a *vast* array sonic possibilies, and if you patch it into another module, the possibilities are pretty much infinite. As far as present not being stored, is that not true of most modular analog synths? Even my Prodigy doesn't store presets, and it makes no difference. You make sounds as you go. My Juno 60 has the ability to store presets, but I almost never use them. If you mean that it doesn't store *sequences*, then yes, that's a legitimate criticism. But only if you're planning to use it a certain way. As it is, the ability to instantly alter sequences so easily makes storing them pretty much unnecessary. Any sequence can be recalled by hand in seconds. I know I'm replying to a pretty old comment, but I think peoples' expectations of this machine are skewed, mostly because of its unfortunate misnomer.
