Montreal seniors left to wait hours for care despite doctor not being on shift
A pair of Montreal-area seniors are speaking out after they were left waiting hours for care at a local hospital - even though the doctor had left.
Brian Williams was rushed to hospital after experiencing trouble breathing, where X-rays revealed his stomach was pressing against his lungs. He was referred to a thoracic specialist for an appointment earlier this month.
The couple says after hours waiting, they were told the doctor had been called into an emergency. In fact, he wasn’t even at the hospital.
Global’s Dan Spector has their story.

"Free" healthcare in Canada is great, if you can afford the wait.

Health care isn't free; where do you people come up with this stuff....
Just a matter of common courtesy, if you have a room full of patients waiting over an hour for a booked appointment, you let the clients know that there is an issue. The office staff is either incompetent or rude.

Should be fired....
One of the worth medical services in a western countries. But when you open Canada flyer it will tell you that we are number one and its all for free 😂 not
Just because people are smart enough to learn the hospital computer system, and to run all their little machines does not mean they should be in the healthcare profession, no empathy no kindness. I really was astonished. This was in the USA. The people I dealt with had no interpersonal relation skills or empathy towards me because I was in pain.
Blame that on Trudeau’s mass invasion

Wow, this just happened to me yesterday afternoon. Went into emergency with a back injury at two was not leaving till6:15 if they wouldn’t hurry up and release me, all the pharmacies were gonna be closed. All the staff just sit at their desk in front of the computer I asked for a blanket because it was cold in there, and I came with sandals on and asked for a pair of socks didn’t even realize I was in so much pain that one of the intake nurses put a blanket on me all curled up off to one side did not put it over me. I could barely move because of my back injury the hospital worst place to be if you’re sick.
Same issue everywhere for everyone
Doctors aren’t what they used to be🥲
Where we can file official complaint?
It is horrible in Montreal and the government doesn’t care. I became so sick since I moved to Quebec 8 months ago. Shame!
Yup this is way too commonplace. It is so disrespectful of people and their time, the latter of which is very important to patients also.
I will take the Canadian healthcare over the American any day of the week

Be happy waiting is the biggest issue. Seniors in the US voluntarily put off medical care for years out of fear of bankruptcy. We really need to do better.

Not true. They get Medicare after age 55 so their medical care is fully covered. I have lots of family in the US, young and old. Canadians are so ignorant about America.

In the U.S., publicly funded Medicare and Medicaid are the most popular programs providing healthcare for the elderly. In recent years, more and more older Americans are choosing to enroll in Medicare Advantage plans as they provide extended benefits tailored to meet specific healthcare needs.
