So many things to remember of those years... Some less pleasant memories, but some pretty fun runs. -2002, Saku Koivu fights and wins against cancer in one of the most emotion filled arena one would ever get, getting a 5 mins standup ovation with refs trying to start the game despite fans cheering louder and louder. -2006, the Cam Ward emergence. A goalie coming out of nowhere and taking 4 games straight. Also the Justin Williams high-stick to the eye of Koivu incident, uncalled. -2010, often forgotten the great tenure of Mike Cammalleri, signed in the offseason, as well as the octopus Hal Gill and the former Cup winners Gionta and Gomez. How low Gomez sunk after. Halak was sensational taking the spotlight from a young Carey Price. -2011, the PK Subban show ! What a performance. But that Nathan Horton goal in Game 7 overtime, huge slap from the blue line. -2013, the Pageau chants. The heat started between Senators and Habs fans. That 3 goal game by Pageau added so much fuel to the fire. -2014, Carey Price was phenomenal, PK Subban was as well especially on that coming out of the box goal all alone on Rask. And the infuriating Kreider incident, Tokarski having to step in and of course, Martin St-Louis' great story. I bet LA wished they could have had their revenge for 93 ! -2015, Brandon Prust calling out the bug-eyed walrus coach Paul McLean... Weird story and Prust acted like an idiot running over Sens goalie, I believe Andrew Hammond. -2016, Rene Bourque's impressive playoffs run, especially that goal off the starting faceoff with a beautiful saucer from the other side of center line from Subban ! We also learned to hate Alain Vigneault a bit more with his praising the other team so we can beat them better tactics. -2017, a very unhealthy relationship in the lockeroom and Subban ends up being the one to leave. Rumors have it him and Pacioretty, it doesn't work. Dale Weise also said this year Subban was treated awfully by management with ridiculous shaming. We get Weber instead... and that was the right choice. -2018, Pacioretty leaves the Canadiens for Nick Suzuki, Tomas Tatar and a 2nd. Main piece Tatar, but many are saying it really is Suzuki and that this trade could go down as a crazy steal from Montreal. Especially with that 2nd turning out to be Mattias Norlinder. -2021, Cole Caufield's two first goals being OT winners in the end of the season. Nick Suzuki comes out as the brightest future we have for many years. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, despite all criticism for not picking Brady Tkachuk instead, goes on to tie Habs highest scorers below 21 years old in the playoffs. The future is looking really good with these three guys... What crazy 20 years these have been. A roller coaster of highs and lows...

I'm impressed by Price's loyalty to the team and the fact that he put up insane numbers even with the lackluster defense (except 2014, where the team was actually good). Montreal's main problem is scoring goals. The offense was always the issue with this team in recent history.

A moment that doesn't get mentioned much but was pretty crazy. I think it was 2001-2002 Mtl playing Boston. One of the Bruins took a run on Mtl's top playoff performer Richard Zednik. Took Zednik out for the rest of the playoffs. Right after the hit Mtls coach Michel Therrien was going nuts! He was pointing and yelling at the Boston bench, saying "You're going down" while running this thumb across his throat. Mtl was down in the series but came back to win that series! Haha

As to goalies, there was also Bill Durnan who won 2 cups in the 7 seasons he played and gets forgotten. Georges Vezina won 1 cup in the 9 seasons he was with the club. That was in 1923-1924 and they only had to play one series, beating the Ottawa Senators 2-0 in the finals. The league had 4 teams at the time.

Just like in '93, they had great goaltending and a great mixture of veterans vs young... One of those great veterans was Correy Perry... What a warrior he has been!! After the season, he told everybody the only thing he wanted was to come back to Montreal and experience the Bell Center full... Unfortunately, possibly after losing in final to Tambay Bay and having received a great offer, he decided to go and play there... My heart was broken and though Price and the young guys are still there, the loss of veterans like Perry and Webber (not sure Staal played a big role) will mean that it's impossible they'll rematch their 2020-2021 stanley cup run (IF they even make the playoff...). 2020-2021, they almost didn't do the playoffs, but it was a team built FOR the playoffs... Next season, it won't be the case anymore with the pre-mentioned losses...

It's the time i've been following and analysing them...They pretty much had really 3 shot at the cup in that period by the roster they created...2009-2010 with that insane Halak run !! The NHL was doing those reverse commercial, History will be made, and his was What if Halak hadn't been 'magnifique ? Very exciting playoff but the lack of offense from the second and 3 line vs a team like the Flyers didn't help...2013-2014, the year of Bergevin and that Vanek trade, great offense, great defense and peak Price...Then Chris Krieder decided at the end of the season to go skate first on 4 elite goalie to injure them, Fleury, Rinne, Rask and Price in the playoff...It should have been a final Montréal vs King like the 90's...Last one is this year with a team build on the balance of young and veteran of the Stanley cup, killing offense with their defense and Price at his best...Then they face the 18 millions cap circumventing team than half the league forgive cause it's Tampa and lost to the monster Bettman wanted to win...So at least there was some fun moments but offensive was the major issue...one they will remedy soon...

As much as I hated Montreal in the 2021 shortened season, the issue was on Toronto themselves when they choked 3-1, but on the other hand the Habs upset Vegas which made me happy. They did not stand a chance against Tampa for the cup only lasted long enough for 5 games. Montreal could've won the cup when they were at their prime, they could've faced Vancouver for the 2011 cup which could've guaranteed Canada the cup had they not lost to Boston. It's a shame they had a bad year following that unexpected shocker of a run to the Stanley Cup. Under normal circumstances Montreal wouldn't have even made it in 2021, but because the Canadian teams all had to stay within their borders until the "Final Four" round of 2021 playoffs because of obvious reasons they made it.

Fun little fact: that sweep they suffered against Boston in 2009 (prior to the Halak year) prompted a somewhat hasty rebuild. A LOT of trades were made in that offseason to acquire (among others) Cammalleri, Gionta and Gomez. Add to that an up-and-coming PK Subban and things looked kinda bright for them. Now this year, it's the opposite for me. I don't even expect them to make the playoffs at all next year. Expectations are high for some, but for those with half a head to see this properly, there's little to no expectation here.

I don't expect them to make the playoffs this year, although I wouldn't be surprised either. I do think that after that they get back into making more than they miss, as was the case from 2008 to 2015. I'm pretty high on their LD potential. I think one of Romanov, Guhle, Harris or Norlinder will be a top-pairing D-man and a Norris-caliber guy (my money is on Mattias). Between the other 3 you've definitely got at least another top-4 guy, and you can also definitely find your bottom-pairing guy.

@@MathieuFerronMusic The thing with "underdog Habs" in playoffs has been demonstrated throughout the years an innumerable number of times... IN THE REGULAR SEASON. They have this loser's attitude that I hate so much, in that they'll look at the standings on a given night, and if the opposing team is higher than them, they'll give it their all (giving place to incredible hockey sometimes). But, if the opposing team is below Montreal, they'll just stop caring, thinking it'll be an easy win. How many times has Montreal lost to Columbus this way in the past decade again? And sadly this translates into the playoffs too, where if they're a higher seed, you already know they'll lose in the first round. Point is, no matter how many good players the Habs rack up, they'll never get anywhere with that mentality. Much like that entitlement culture that started to take root in Toronto with Matthews sulking at the fact that Tavares was chosen for captain over himself. Both teams are capable of true greatness, if only they'll let go of these bad mentalities...

@@Moda-pf8wt with everything i've said, there's doubt about it, no question that the canadiens fans are passionate, they show up in droves at the stadium, on the road, and on social media. unfortunately some if not much of that passion gets used the wrong way. i was a bit sad that the quebec government would not allow more than the 3500 fans for the finals, even if they let half capacity that would been nice. make no mistake, the bell centre is imo the loudest, best environment for a playoff game. no matter if you play for the habs, or are the opposing team, the bell center at p-off time is the place where you want to perform your best! and tbh the montreal fans were for the most part excellent towards me on social media during the playoffs till they got to the finals. throughout the 1st 3 rounds even though i picked against montreal i was always fair in my comments and gave credit where it was due, in which case, you guys did a great job on the ice proving people and myself wrong in beating tor, wpg, vgk. i was cheering for tampa yet understood that the habs on the ice must be taken seriously. and the bolts did. i think the backbreaker for the habs vs tbl was game 2. mtl played their best possible game and still lost. there was the game 4 win but most montreal fans could not accept that tampa was a better team with or without kucherov, and the "$18m over the cap" line was the excuse to blame tampa. so when i see people's true colors during a time of conflict, i believe what i see. that said having watched the entire playoffs, i sincerely remain happy for the canadiens players who were able to achieve success, be it petry, caufield, suzuki, price, danualt. caufield is like that new guy that gets hired at your job, so positive in attitude and does such a great job right away, that everybody wants to work with him. lastly as an aside i think kk's next contract needs to be a bridge deal. he's got potential but thus far has been to inconsistent. the 2C job is his for the taking, now in his 3rd season he has to show bergevin that he can handle the job consistently! wishing you all the best, cheers. 😉
