you gotta add carey's LTIR caphit to that 9m. We're closer to 18m with free cap with only barron and xhekaj to re-sign.

Guhle, Slaf and Dach will need new contracts next year and they will not be cheap. Committing that money now would make me believe that they would trade Guhle - they would get a good return on him and we have a bunch of prospects that can step up.

Dach is signed for three more years. Dvorak will be off the books by then. Between Dachs current contract and dvoraks there’s 8mil there.

They don’t have the money to do a big free agent signing. They would need to get rid of Gallagher and Anderson contract before.

This would be a horrible idea to go all in next year before the rebuild is finished. Next year our #1 right shot defenseman is David Savard unless we play Guhle on his wrong side again. Reinbacher and Mailloux are at a minimum 1 year away from being NHL ready, but realistically they are 2 years away from being reliable NHL defenseman. Sure it would be great to have a first line of Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky and a second line of Marchessault-Dach-Stamkos. However the defense is at least 2 years away from being NHL ready. That's a formula for disaster. When the Defense is ready to compete these forwards we just added as UFAs will be aged out of their prime. Hab fans need to relax and be patient. Hopefully we can draft Lindstrom this year, but we will probably get Eiserman. But that is fine because in 2 years when our defense is ready Eiserman should be too and that's perfect. I expect Hughes is going to make another blockbuster trade in the off season to bring in another young RFA player like Dach or Newhook. Personally I hope he brings in Kent Johnson from Columbus by offering up Calgary's 2025 1st and Winnipeg's 2024 1st, plus a left defenseman (Jordan Harris). Our lines could look like this in 2026: Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky Eiserman-Dach-Johnson Heineman-Newhook-Roy Anderson-Beck-Gallagher Guhle-??? Hutson-Reinbacher Xhekaj-Mailloux Struble Montembeault-Primeau-Fowler As you can see that we don't have a true #1 pairing right shot defenseman in our system, unless you believe that one of Justin Barron, David Reinbacher or Logan Mailloux can be that guy. This is when we go shopping, AFTER the 2025 season and bring in a 28-29 year old right shot defenseman. Rasmus Andersson from Calgary will probably be the big name UFA after the 2025 season. He is the guy I would target to bring in to finish the rebuild for the 2026 season. The Habs years of tanking should be over now, and they should be actively trying to make the playoff in 2024 and 2025 to build a winning culture. But 2026 is the year that the Habs cup window will be open. So just be patient, don't rush the rebuild. Look how long it took Colorado to win after drafting Mackinnon first overall.

If that "older aging veteran" is going to have a leadership role at the Olympic level, then they should shell out assets and/or money. If it's another goal scorer, they should probably look for guys closer to their core age.

Our future on D is set with Guhle Barron, Xhekaj Mailloux, and Hutson Reinbacher making up our core. The S.S. Caulfield line is anchored well and needs no change with Captain Suzuki at the helm. Our 4th line is set with Beck, Evans, and Armia providing a strong D that can score so we are set on 4th and first lines. So we need some influx of talent for the 2nd and 3rd lines. Dach, Newhook, Mesar, Roy, Kapinen, needs Lindstrom, Iserman, or Iginla. So we need picks to trade for them. We don't need gold like Cellabrini plus the cost is way too high. There is much talent in the first round so trade for picks and move up. Lotsa' Silver is what we need we already have buillion on D.

you forgot to mention marchessault's 40 goal pace. a two year deal to help him mentor younger players and even help suzuki out. We don't need him but we could use him.

The Habs have a few examples older players with too long of term already. Let's use the players we have in the system and see where that goes.

I hope they target someone this offseason but I would imagine it's going to be a middle 6 forward. I think after they sign more of the core players the 2025 season is most likely be when they'll go all out and try and land a big fish. The problem with JM or Sam Reinhart is that they are having career years, i wouldn't want to end up with a Jeff Skinner-like contract on the team.

If Florida does not re-sign Reinhart then Montreal should go after him. I think if Edmonton flops out of the playoffs early again (like the leafs) then Draisaitl maybe be out the door the following year and is another player to hunt down. Armia finishing strong should be an easy trade this off season. Pearson won't be back one way or another. Dvorak will hopefully be traded out early next season. And with Edmonson coming off cap hit this year and Allen and Petry end of next year. We can hopefully trade Anderson and Gally after next season and retain salary to get them out. So Armia, Pearson, Dvorak, Anderson, and Gally gone opens up a lot of salary room for guys like Reinhart and Draisaitl. WE NEED A at least one 100pt per season guy on the team. Also I'm still big on Montreal going after Swayman from Boston. I don't think Monty is a cup winning Goalie. And hopefully with all that dead weight gone will open up some spots for our young talent to step into like Beck or Mesar.

Montreal has 77 million counting against the cap next year. Now 10.5 Million of that is Price. So 66.5 million. That leaves them with 21 million extra. They have to resign Xhekaj. So Stamkos is 34. Marchessault is 33 years old. How much of your 21 million would you spend on these guys? Why would you sign these old men? And Xhekaj doesn't get a big contract.

Where do you get 21 millions from😂 only 20% of price contract counts against the cap so around 2 millions and it’s already subtracted from wherever you got your source, Pearson is the only guy coming off the books that makes over 3 millions besides that you have ylonen, white and alzners contract freeing around 2 millions, all other players are signed for next year and Montreal have to fill the spots of those players I previously mentioned As long as Gallagher , Anderson an dvorak are taking 16.5 millions of cap space , the habs will never be competitive until they’re gone

I’m assuming this kid has never been to Montreal. Hopefully he gets to go when he grows up and sees that it’s not a destination city no players want to play there and definitely not live there. There is a reason they always suck it’s because they are in Montreal. No top UFA will ever just decide I want to go to Montreal.
