Montauk Surf Striped Bass - First Time Fishing the Mecca

Фильм және анимация

Drove to long island for a few days in June to fish for fluke and whatever else… I ended up giving montauk a shot for stripers with fishaholic on this day and was pretty underwhelmed by a slow pick of small fish. This was my first time ever fishing the legendary mecca that is montauk, I think 10 years ago on a day like this we would have been catching 30”-38” fish in these exact spots and exact lures. From what I have gathered, montauk is a tough place to catch big bass any more (from shore at least). Is Montauk still the mecca? or is it past its prime. The Balloons are thick on the shores out there. Boats off NJ/NY report seeing up to 100 in a day, we gotta do better than that. I shoulda picked up those balloons, no excuses.
Rod- amzn.to/2NoZE33
Reel is a Saragosa 6k (I do like this reel a lot) amzn.to/2NVtqxr
Lures I used-
Kastmaster XL amzn.to/2zLUMDb
Yozuri Mag Darter amzn.to/2uvwrwn
Camera is a Gopro hero 5 black, and even though it sucks and constantly gives me problems, you can purchase it here for cheaper than what I paid for it. maybe youll have better luck with it than me. amzn.to/2mnzphZ

You can head over there and pick up all the balloons buddy! Taking away 15 balloons the from the millions that are floating around in the ocean isn't going to do crap! Chris is simply a fisherman, and he was trying to use this this platform to inform people about the issue. The words he said in this video will have more of a positive impact on people than everything you have ever done in your life. You are a very, very, ignorant person.... what a shame.

I am old enough to remember when it was very difficult to catch a 28 inch bass anywhere on Long Island waters. The bass fishing has been incredible this year. Fishing from a boat around Montauk with live Porgies harnessed to 10/0 live bait hooks behind the head has been producing 50 pound fish the past two weeks.

You are spot on about the European bass sea money, they are just called bass over here and I'd kill to have a session like you had every day. A 4/5lb bass would definitely put a smile on your face, and catching a 3 or 4 of those in a session would be excellent fishing for us. But our lure tackle is lighter too generally so you get more fight out of them. I had a 8lb fish on a 7/8 wt fly rod this season and that was great sport.

FishAholic Fishing I remember meeting New York fishermen on the beaches of Cape Cod over the years, that considered the Cape mecca. They believed that Montauk was a spring and fall fishery only and that we (Mass residents ) were lucky because striped bass made the Cape their season long residence. Don't know how true that was but that was feeling among some back then.

Where im from, on "balloon day", every student and staff released at least one balloon into the sky at the same time. Prob 1,000 plus balloons released every time the day came. I reeeeeally hope that practice has been discontinued.

I dont love it. mine is a 2-6oz medium heavy, but it feels more like a 1-3. If 1-3 is what you want yea I think its a good option. It doubles over on 20" bass. Sandy beaches Ill use it with smaller plugs but for bigger baits/fish I dont use it. Good eelin rod, bad for throwing bigger plugs.

Love your channel man. I always get stoked when Sea Money finally uploads a new vid. Maybe when your GoPro gets corrupt and fail to record audio you can add in voice over sound effects of the waves crashing. "Shwoosh, swishhh!" maybe some wind? "Whooosh, pshooo!" And some birds? "Ca caww!" And some footsteps too? "Thump, thump" maybe when you catch a fish? "Flop, flop" "wiggle, wiggle" and "rattle, rattle" when the plug starts shaking. This idea might make life easier for you since you won't have to worry about corrupt audio anymore. Please consider my ingenious recommendation. Tight lines and Keep on slayin em. Sincerely, A random fuckin person with a horrible idea.

I was going to say, the mojo surf might have some more power, Id def lean towards that if you are looking to throw the bigger SP's, mag darters and custom plugs. I have the mojo inshore and mojo musky and both of those overperform in regards to their weight rating, I can only imagine the mojo surf is the same. edit: the rods I just mentioned are way more than I thought (black hole rods)

Yes man. The size of the bass you are catching in this video is common size but rare in the Adriatic Sea. You can not catch bass over here on every cast of the lure. May be two or three all day long. I am looking forward for my upcoming visit in Atlantic City in August. Last year was not a fishing season over there. There were not schools of bunkers and mullets too. Just flounders and small strippers and flounders. Besides the City has pumped sand all the way up to Margate from the inlet and there are no small crabs and sand flies. Also the water unusually warm for the last three four years. My folks over there say the water is again too warm and crystal clear which is unusual for AC.

So from my limited (but growing) experience, fishing Montauk without korkers, Bucktails, diamond jigs, and a sealed reel is like fishing the Ditch without Mackerel colored lures, AlGags jigs, and a rod heavy enough to throw 3 oz magic swimmers. If you plan on coming back, buy some korkers before you buy a wetsuit. And please do come back.

A balloon is basically like a bag. so you would have had like a hundred bags to put balloons in, and it would work way better than trying to complain those balloons off the beach, or whatever you were doing there with that minute of jump cuts to each balloon. Don't make a big deal about something you're not willing to fix, especially if you have the power to do so. I'm just saying. Keeping my subscription, I just hope you think about that for the next time you encounter something like that. Its up to all of us.

U know.. IF you picked up those balloons, I bet people would donate to a patreon for you to get a chance to win a random drawing to get an official sea-money Montauk surf balloon. Just saying, you make things valuable! Nice vid. Thanks for pushing yourself.
