MONSTER TRUCK ENGINE BUILD EP 7 | TRENT'S GARAGE

I got the top end of this engine disassembled in my last video. This time I'm tearing into the bottom end of the engine to see what it looks like and make sure it's a good candidate for a high horsepower rebuild!!! I've got some help from my buddy Mike and while he's here we are projecting what it'll take to fabricate the new frame.
Things are gettin really exciting as we get close to have thing the engine completely torn down, soon enough it'll be rebuild time!!!

My favorite part was when Allie asked Mike how things were looking and he says in a very professional manner, "We have everything lined up for some really good progress going forward." He seems like a great, genuine guy but I also think he knew what Allie wanted to hear! Go Mike! So glad Trent has stayed in touch with all his old pals. I think it's fun for Allie to meet them all too!

The first engine I ever rebuilt in my life was in 1970 at JMHS auto shop class in Glendale WV. The engine was a straight 6 out of an old ford galaxy the shop had 7 of them donated by the USArmy. We were the second auto shop class to completely rebuild these engines. I was 17 years old I’m 70 now and I have rebuilt many many engines in my life. I have done the whole 9 yards ported, polished, bored, stroked, balanced and blue printed engines in cars trucks motorcycles even a riding lawn mower (well kinda) it was a John Deer garden tractor that my friend put a small block Chevy in so he could compete in “lawn mower class” at tractor pulls. Good luck with your build

One things that has been clear for a long time is that Trent is the kind of guy who can be a friend... since a slew of guys have shown up to lend a hand with this or that... often in very big ways. We have Brandon working full-time and others showing up over and over again. Is there any wonder that we all feel like friends when we hang out with Trent and Allie? They are good people and very skilled at creating content for us to enjoy.

I assume you'll be trailering this rig to the trails. Incorporate tie-down hook points into the frame/chassis. Make your life easier now. Plan to hook the rear from just behind the front tires in a 'X' pattern. Hook the front from just before the rear tires in the same 'X' pattern. Keeps it much tighter and lets you get away with a smaller trailer. Then self-ratcheting "smart" straps from CargoBuckle mounted to your trailer will make loading and unloading a breeze for many years to come.

Ya it’s way better to just start from scratch, that way your suspension will have all the travel it needs ride heights and steering clearance won’t be limited, you absolutely won’t regret it in the long run because as with all projects the truck will evolve and this way you’ll already have a good base and really you would have had to cut everything off forward of the front cab and rearward of the rear of the cab ….. seriously what does it take to build under the cab 😂🤷🏼‍♂️, i bit more planning but nothing in cost’s really! You definitely are doing the right thing, ask your friend mike he will say the same thing ! Build on Trent your doing awesome!

If your planning on rebuilding this engine on your own and do not want to use micrometers or measurements of any kind then you are trusting someone else. Never fail to double check measurements. At the very least, Use plastigauge on ALL bearings! Double check ring end gap. So many things come to mind to me after well over 40 years of engine building experience. Machine shops can and do make mistakes. Honest mistakes but some that can cause serious issues. Double check everything!!!

Trent - my high school cars were a 75 Chevy Malibu Classic that my Aunt gave my Dad because she knew that I was going to be getting my license. I saved up and bought a 1983 American Motors Eagle SX4 the end of my sophomore year. The AMC Eagle was a great car part-time 4x4 and chewed up CV Joints like crazy. Only issue - it was a mash up of Dodge, GMC and Ford components so you could be replacing a Ford voltage regulator, a GM alternator, a Dodge starter...it was a crap shoot at the parts store.

At this point, you might as well put an LS in it...? V8 power to roll those tires!

Just a heads up to maybe save money and time. You might be able to buy , a new truck frame bare nothing on it from the factory who makes them all .... DANA frames, makes all truck frames for Ford, GM , ect, that all they make the Bare, bones frame for production lines. I think they would sell one. But shipping would be on you.. The factory is in IND , I think in the middle of a cord field. If you can it sure would save you a ton of time. And a 250 frame, or dodge truck frames is what they make....
