CUTTING MY BODY INTO PIECES!!!
I've tried really hard to keep as much of this truck as I could but it seems like every stage I get to, more and more stuff gets thrown out, cut off, or changed all together. Today is no different and I'll be removing and throwing away quite a bit but I'm also cutting my body into pieces. Hopefully this isn't a mistake.. I guess we'll see.

Trent you are amazing young man , you are much admired!
Your knowledge about building houses and rebuilding a truck always amazes me. I love your confidence and attitude! Hi to Allie and Brandon and Leo too. 🙋🏼♀️
From my perspective Trent, you're doing great job on your crawler, just like you do on your house. Hang in there Buddy, we're all rooting for you!!! All the best from Gene in Tennessee.

Your energy inspires me - working on the house during the day and the vehicle at night 😊
About properly correcting issues; that was one of the hardest things to teach as the Work Center Supervisor on my ship. Even though it takes longer today, it will take less time over the longhaul. And the piece of mind knowing something is 100% correct is a great feeling.
The truck rock crawler is starting to take shape and show some serious progress! Keep up the great work, Trent!
Good to see Brandon show up later in the vid. Cudos to you and Allie, Leo and Brandon for all that you guys do, Trent, good seeing fun things happen around there.
Great Work Trent, enjoy your realistic filming of your work, with no editing to try and misrepresent the job. Some KZread videos misrepresent projects and present their finished content as perfect which as we all know is not humanly possible. Think you're actually having fun.
Nice choice of music when you and Brendon were lifting that item into place. Shades of a Clint Eastman movie. Someone needs a poncho, a stubby cigarette dripping from a lip, a wide brimmed hat, and squinting eyes. A pained look. You're making progress, slowly but surely.
I thing fully mounting the transmission is a big deal. You do appear to make magic and talk the talk I watch so I can pretend I know what you’re doing. Plus it’s oddly satisfying, interesting and fun. Love the music choices!
Just a wee bit of advice Trent ,always when mig welding have the material as clean as pos ,always grind the millscale off or the weld wil have poor penetration and the weld will be weak . Also avoid welding downhill (poor penetration) always weld uphill for a way stronger weld . Great build by the way ,really enjoying it .

It's so inspiring when people with knowledge are so helpful and polite in imparting that knowledge .... and not just to you but to all of us who are following you and reading the comments. Thankyou @Jacob-64
Trent, this is a great project to share with us, so thanks! Anyone who scratch builds runs into the issues you are having which makes it real for folks thinking about their own rigs. All the best!
It's coming together Trent. Good show today.
Nice work! I personally would have slugged the frame and bolted in the cross member. You have the ideal setup with 2 flat-faced frame rails. It would have been a little more work but future removal would have been a piece of cake. Keep diggin'.

I wanted to do this originally, but the extra work seemed like something I could push off so I welded it in and will most likely create a removable version out of this crossmember down the road

Great effort. Hats off for diving into unknown territory and running with it. Tip: welding... always run vertical up. Especially on structural components. Tip 2: Your crossmember shouldn't be welded in solid, you should have it be removable for future service. The last thing you want to do is start a transmission/transfer case R&R with a saw or grinder to cut out your crossmember. Food for thought.

Thank you! And yeah I’m sure a removable crossmember will be soon on the list
Trent the transfer case looks great.👍 Glad you took the time to do all the work to get it in a better position. 👍👍👍 keep up the great work 🤘🤘🤘
Great job Trent , transfer cases are always the most difficult for clearances at least now it’s set for the drive line and suspension arm setups can’t wait to see what you end up doing!
Oh goodness Trent you are doing a really great job, and don't worry about what some of those rude people say, because you are doing a great job and will get it all complete because this project really has been quite the process. also so great seeing Brandon helping you again he is just such a great sweet friend that cares about you all so much. Have a wonderful rest of your day and also the week coming up, sending love and hugs, bye! 😂🥰🤗💜💜
Thanks again, Trent!
If I were a newbie to the channel ( have watched from beginning) I would think Brandon is your brother ( i had three of them) Cheers to both of you fellas
You can re-route the tubes in the drive axle area and still have the support and strength like a 1/2. or3/4 C type tube I'd think🤔and repurpose the cut out inside to build the tub to cover the transfer case look factory then 😆👍 good luck you guy's got this✌
good vid
That’s what moms call our tummy, belly pan 😂
Dude your kicking ass! This will be so cool to see you out on the rocks! Thanks for letting us be a small part..
on thouse two you made I would put a plate on top them to make it slide on to of the frame for more suport I put a log mud truck to gether with my Uncle Gary you did a nice job the way they are the plate did was simeler
So glad you went with Toyota and not Dodge! Toyota is top notch. great engines too.
I would build yourself a template out of cardboard for the floor section and put your new seat in to make sure everything fits. You can use the template for your plasma table. I would consider making the floor out of something a little sturdier then sheet metal. I think that mounting bar you cut through for the front of your factory seat may have doubled as a structural support.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! 👍😎❤️
Thanks Allie!!🎧🎹🥁🎸

Hey Trent! You are truely a "King of scetch", by looking how did you used the angle grinder at 17:12 . My god, that is so dangerous, if the cutting disc brakes, the peaces will fly into youre chest or face.

Matters to Trent and the exposure his work will get when he's out there using this vehicle, competing against his peers.
Trent reminds me of Dr. Frankenstein when he was building his monster “it’s Alive!!!”😬
Thanks for the explanation! I commented on a subsequent video that I'd appreciate more design details - maybe i spoke too soon?
Not sure if you'll have room(going further up) for your Trans mount, but, there isn't any reason that the mounts have to be straight across from each other, the drive shaft will be going down as it moves toward the front, so you could mover the drivers side of the mount towards the front and have it run at an angle from one side to the other. Also, I'd leave it as is until you get your axles, wheels and tires on, so you can cycle the suspension to see where you will need to move your trans mount or anything else
@Trents.garage

That’s a great idea!!!
Looking good man! Tacking stuff together until you know everything works would save you some time. I learned that the hard way. I was thinking that would have saved you time on that cross member.
If the carpet doesn’t work out, get some of that rhino lining or garage floor, texture coating. I am enjoying watching your garage channel as much as the Trent and Allie channel. I have almost given up on all other television because I have so many channel subscriptions.
Use the cut pice and flip it over and you have your sheet metal piece
Before modifying the trans mount so the front drive line clears, consider a body lift so you still have sufficient strength in that trans cross member.
Nice work Trent!👍🏻
More name ideas: The Ginger Crawler Ginger Goat The Ginger Taco Mountain Made Crawler Mountain Goat
It wasn't a waste of time because. If You didn't do it the way You would never know that you had to modify the transmission mount so the drive shaft would fit. Three steps forward two steps backwards that's fabricating in a nutshell keep at it looks good that's going to be a sick toco😮
Please make sure the front end is fully supported. With everything up front and nothing in the back, the front can tip. I’ve seen several videos where that happens.
@Trents.garage

I’ve got it pretty well balanced as it is now
looks like you should of made a straight trans xmember because once you rotate the transfer it would of gone over it. looks like its going to hit your xmember when you rotate the transfer case.
get an extra roll of weldingwire (do pack it so moisture and air cannot get to it and cause it to rust) , and while youre at it get a spare bottle of shielding gas too as these allways run out at night over the weekend when nothing is opened and youre holding one end of a long tube while the other end is allready tacked in , with the extra stuff you can switch to a freshy and put the stuff on the shoppinglist for whenever the next time youre in town will be , having some spare consumables like weldingtips and maibe some o rings and a liner for the mig gun might be a good idea as well the consumables probably set you back about 30 bucks but saves you having to stop and wait for the stores to open and do an unsceduled shopping run as for moving the project uot from between the lift posts , wat you can do is make some casters on a stick , temporarily weld or clamp them to the 4 frame ends so you can roll the whole thing around some , setting it down on a set of car moving dollies with axlestands on them would work too though a little more janky sumting i seen done to make a nice looking cover for the hole where the transfercase goes intoo you can try to find the metal bucket for a wheelbarrow , these things have multiple compound bends and you can cut and weld those and made the hump in the floor look factory , another option would be to go to the wreckingyard with some carboard templates for height and length you need and the angle grinder and sawsall then start hacking piecec of roof section pieces of the hood of older trucks and corners / metal bumpers out of cars that can be made to fit the floor about the transmissionmount , maibe you can fit a piece of thickwal pipe in there cut in half , basicly a sort of c notch loweringkit for a minitruck frame , think you can cut a piece out and weld it where its sitting , might need to cut another square of floor out to get the notch to sit high enough to clear the driveshaft
20:47 fun music here 🎼
Get a die grinder and grinding burrs for hard to get spots. It’s difficult grinding but you will be able to get the porosity in the welds and do another pass to clean it up. Oh one more thing be safe have fun 🙂👍
Can’t wait to go rock crawling in October😃 Stocking up on butter popcorn with great anticipation! (Since there will probably be 5 feet of snow on the ground by November 1, we need to get on this 😆😎).
As a van owner would say a “doghouse” for the transfer case cover.
Trent you've said that it might not be pretty. Well, just remember that "pretty is in the eye of the beholder". We're going for function here not eye candy.

@@Trents.garage Trent, it's like the old joke. Yea, I hired a new secretary. She's beautiful but I can't expect to do good work too. I'd rather have a good working truck that you can depend on than a pretty truck that can't even hold a load. Wish you the best on getting this job done!
Try reusing the piece of floorboard you cut out before you make a new cover using sheetmetal. You should just have to flip it over. Maybe you'll get lucky and have less to fabricate. Good luck

9:01 nice camera angle!
having that transfer case on the other side of the transmission you are totally going to want to make that transmission crossmember removable.
@Trents.garage
Жыл бұрын
I’m sure I will eventually haha
Trent, good video. May I suggest if you insist on making your own transmission cross member, please gusset the heck out of it with some 3/16 plate. Ive built many cross members and one a lot like yours. They bent... And that in turn can break an engine mount or the casting on the transmission. I know I've seen it both. Thanks for the video Happy trails my friend!
@Trents.garage
Жыл бұрын
I do plan to add a lot of gussets, but I also have a crossmember that will mount to the tail housing of the transfer case as well. Hoping between the two and my rather solid motor mounts, it will be ok.
I know it can be irritating and time consuming to do all the steps you have to do but… it’s better to do it and get it right and then be done. It’s a piece of mind!!
Be careful Trent!😊
Whoot Whoot 😊🎉❤
When you're fabricating a car, you never weld anything in until the car Is done now, you gotta cut the whole thing out, don't get ahead of yourself. It'll bite you in and touch every time. It will bite you in the tush every time
You can weld that floor piece upside down and will look oem
Definitely Rhino line the floor!
👍👍
Clean it good and paint it a couple of times with rustoleum paint
Trent your doing a great job so far BUT I think you are making a Very Big Mistake by not making the cross member removable!! All Vehicles have Removable REMOVABLE cross members!! I really think you should slow down and really think about down the road!!
Body lift could help you out there. Isn't that a collision cross beam that you cut out? I would add some vertical support ribs to the transmission mounts. Too much potential flex there.
😊😊😊😊😊
Was wondering if u have thought about your drive line angle once u move that transfer case higher up into the body?
