If anyone is wondering: "Each row in the top panel represents the neural activity recorded from one electrode. The top 100 electrodes with the strongest upward preferred directions are shown in blue, and the 100 electrodes with the strongest downward preferred directions are shown in red. Brighter colors indicate higher firing rates. In the bottom trace, the yellow line indicates the vertical velocity of the MindPong paddle that results from the decoded neural activity in the top panel."

@@QuietSquirrelClips what is happening is essentially we are creating a computer which can add another layer/interface to our living self. This simply means we have our brain which handles the cognition and our body which handles the responses, what this adds is another computational layer which would resolve many brain issues in case the biological frameworks malfunctions and also possibly in the future enhance them to super human or even better possibilities. This is a very broad simplistic explanation but it’s much deeper.

Could be different with robotic limbs, but not really a good idea to rewrite their limb movements as that would probably scare or frustrate them beyond belief.

I have soooo many questions! Like: How addicted is he?(Knowing he gets food while playing.) What happens when the pong sides are switched? How long does it take until he realize it? What when the paddle color is changed? What when two balls are used? How does he react when balls appear left and move in a straight line to the right? Is he able to learn a second (easy) game? When yes: What happens when its switched back to pong? Is he able to teach a non trained other ape? Is his counterpart a human or a software which should make some mistakes? Does he react differently when his counterpart makes a mistake? Which experiments are planed or made to override his mind? Dreams he (about pong)? Are his neurons firing while he is asleep that are indicating he dreams about pong? And: Can he say "No!" and fire an AK-47? ;-)
