Not a ripoff. It's a far more interesting than that actually! The guy who wrote the script for the Monkey Island movie that never got made went on to write Pirates of the Caribbean. There's a strong connection between the two. Many of the ideas from the Monkey Island script made it over to this franchise. It's interesting stuff! Look it up :)

Not only an idea but the real source of the movieidea about the carackter because the rights were bought from Disney back then when they srarted the movie ;)

same here. so sad a monkey island movie will never ever be realized cause of this dumb pirates of the caribbean. would be too similar... when i think about that i hate pirates of the carribbean more and more... and MORE
