The shoes part feel like Snufkin let his intrusive thoughts win, but wanted to seem cool in front of Moomintroll, so came up with something that sounded smart

I love how everyone just accepts and RESPECTS Snufkins lil tent as his literal HOUSE and always knocks before addressing the situation. yeah they can shout for him and sure he can hear through the canvas easy, but like he does not acknowledge anything til they respect his home and it's kinda cute. For a guy who ain't about possessions and property he sure expect the same respect he shows others when they approach his campsite XD
