Law enforcement is trying to prevent school mass shootings from ever happening. How would like to leave your home just to go to school and, like a cop, hoping to come home for dinner? Kids go to school to learn. Instead, they're worrying if they get through the day without getting shot.

It’s a kid making a private joke verbally and they arrested him for a written threat like he sent it to the police station themselves. To be fair, she doesn't want her kid to be taken away, or arrested, I get it. I think in situations like this the parent will often defend the kid right away, and discipline later, her goal is to attempt to reverse the arrest, even if it isn't a plausible goal.

15 is not a man. I believe this mother is in denial about her kid, but he's certainly not a man. His frontal lobe (decision making) won't even be fully developed until he's 25. I believe he is a kid who said something stupid without thinking about the consequences which is what 15-year-olds do unfortunately. I play video games (I'm old) and I hear kids saying the most, vile things during game play. The thing parents like this mother in the video need to do is get their kids off the screen. Many of them play violent games for hours and lose sight of reality and in games, there are no consequences.

This mother’s complete and utter lack of awareness is breathtaking.

i'm a school bus driver, and these kids get on the bus then say and do the dumbest things thinking that i'm distracted with driving to the extent that i don't hear what they're doing. the language of my fifth and sixth graders is just appalling, when i hear them talk nasty i ask them if they talk that way around their parents. they'll say no, so i tell them not to talk that way around me. of course, we did the same thing at that age, too. you're right, we have a set of standards depending on who we're around.

I agree with your statement to an extent. I’d say it depends on how involved you were in their life before they were teenagers. Too little involvement or too much can absolutely lead to a parent not knowing what’s going on with their teen at all because either the teen thinks they don’t care anyway or the teen’s afraid of getting in trouble so they sneak around. This situation seems more like two strangers cohabiting instead of a parent and a child imo.

In addition, I see no evidence to support the cop's claim. U.S. Courts presume innocence until proven guilty. If you can't get off the internet bandwagon, don't bother pretending you're going to do your civic duty when jury time comes.

Specifically, his charge was writing a terrorist threat to commit a mass shooting in school. You sure there's no evidence of that? My brother is in his senior year and i hope and pray every damn day this type of thing never happens. The officers reacted beautifully, if anything maybe that boy could get help if hes feeling so bad

i understand the mom’s emotional response but she really needs to open her eyes. so many parents have said “my kid wouldn’t do that” and the kid ends up behind bars for shooting up a school

I am really impressed how this cop stayed calm the entire time, even when the mother was losing it. That's how a cop should act in a situation like this.

If this video made me realize anything is that I have to have a real talk with my son. I need him to understand that even if this kid was joking that the threat is real and will be dealt with in a very real way. My son is a great kid. But it's my responsibility to guide him and make sure he knows that even though mistakes can be made that consequences are very real. I see this as a chance to teach an important lesson. Especially where time's are so different than when we were kids.

I literally don't know what type of stupid formula for catching school shooters this is but its borderline braindead. The fact that people are actually saying the cops are right is mind baffling for me. When u go online on games u relax and make stupid jokes, its part of the fun. I've been playing games for most of my life with my friends and if u track what we all said in those games, trust me we would all get life in prison. It doesn't mean we really mean it because its a joke. I'm not saying this guy is not a school shooter, what I'm saying is with these types of arrest u will arrest 100 000 innocent people and u will arrest a one real school shooter. I applaud the officers' efforts in keeping the community safe. These officers are the true heroes in this whole situation because they could have quite possibly just squashed a future mass shooting.

This kid from New York City moved to my small town in Texas. He egged one of my friend's cars. I dropped by on a Saturday so his parents were home. I might have said some things that shouldnt have been said. BUT he didnt egg anymore cars AND everyone in school knew where he lived after. He was probably 16-17. I was 16-17. But shoot up a school? That is so whacko. I wouldnt have even waited after school for a teacher, you have crossed the line even thinking it as a joke.

What would you do as a parent? A 2nd or 3rd degree felony charge on a 15 year old is devastating. Kids are stupid sometimes. The officers are right that they can’t distinguish between the crazies and the kids that are just kidding. But as a parent, are you not supposed to defend your kid? At the end of the day, people say and threaten to do stuff they never mean to actually do. The kid was probably playing games and said something dumb, now his life his ruined.

Of course it's taken seriously, because all of the kids that have shot up schools have posted similar stuff to what he posted, or have talked about doing those things, they are the first red flags, it's the same when people comment on hurting themselves, for mental health professionals say such comments/posteting should never be taken as a joke, but should be see as a possible red flag!

Honestly, if it really was a “joke” then this is a good lesson not to joke about such awful things. And if it isn’t a joke, then the cops intervened before anything happened.

Good job to the officers making this arrest and the FBI agent who spotted this online. Great point the officer made that the child needs food water and a roof over their head they don’t need online gaming in their life many of us grew up without it and we are better for it. This is a bit rediculous.The next time he has lunch and is asked why he is in jail "made a threat on a message board to kill people in my school" while everyone else in there with him will be there for the actual possession of weapons to cause harm or even firing a weapon that killed someone. This is a bit too much to give a felony charge, a felony charge is meant for people who actually murdered someone. I get why it should be taken seriously, but a felony charge, really. He made the state talking about killing people at his school that is a second degree felony when he made a statement threating to harm a bunch of people at his school that is also a threat to commit an act of terrorism which a second degree felony is a fine up to $10,000 and 15 years in Florida state prison that kid being that he is charged as a juvehile offender he's likely getting 15 days in the juvenile detention center.

Very often people joke about killing each other ie. “I’m going to kill you”, “you’re so dead when I see you”, “you’re dead meat” etc. Who arrested BLM we then threaten to kill cops? Free speech is free speech. When you act upon it, now it’s a different story. But this kids jokes are 100% covered by free speech.

“M’am we aren’t here to debate what he did or didn’t do. Your child said something online that indicated his intention to cause mass harm and now they must be held accountable.” Plain and simple, just shut her down before she says anything stupid.

@@tdestroyer4780 Nope. The kid just happened to give vivid details in his threat which made it appear legitimate. Like his full name, where he'll shoot up, how many people he'll kill, where he'll get the weapon, exact model of weapon etc. Someone reported him to his local police and the police found out his parents do actually have that weapon so they took the detailed threat seriously as they should. People joking or shittalking on games dont make such detailed threats directed towards random people. It's usually generic and directed towards the opponent

She’s a mother and the officer is probably a dad too. He understands that she is trying to talk himself out but he wanted to put the extra effort to inform what he did for his mum to understand at an extent.

And guest what?? Little kids like this are the ones who caused a lot of pain.

"He's just a little boy! He's not doing anything wrong!" Some little boys are murderers. There is nothing normal about a kid threatening to kill his classmates.

I was in special needs classes in elementary school. I was 9 and threatened to shoot my teachers and everybody at the school and I had the police called on me. I was terrified, I just had an outburt,, which i have grown out of for going on a decade. and I don't think I needed to go thru that.

@@philtheboi358 I am absolutely ecstatic that you went through that. We are not mind readers. If someone threatens your life or your kid’s life, im sure you will think different. I am a teacher and society expects us to fix literally everything. We are human beings doing the best we can. In a society where these things are literally happening daily, we can’t afford to take these kinds of chances. Im glad you had a horrible experience and hopefully it inspired you to watch your mouth. Actions have consequences. Period.

@@willybeama1 it's alright though, this same attitude of "we need to keep these kids IN LINE" is part of the problem, and doesn't help Jack. People gonna watch history repeat itself, including you. There have been metal detectors, security, and high police presence in inner city, high crime schools for decades. alot of those schools (having gone to one) are still super dangerous, even with these measures. We are already in a huge national debt now People are talking about wasting more money we don't have on extra school security that won't even do anything at 99% of public schools. Instead of just changing existing-ineffective-training (like leaving the shooter in the building with kids for almost an hour), we have decided our best course of action is to waste more money these underfunded schools don't have. So instead of new books or computers, they get a NEW metal detector, what a steal!!!

The actual crime in the U.S. is "assault". That's different from "assault & battery" which is also different from "attempted assault & battery". Which no, isn't necessarily a felony offense. In addition, I see no evidence to support the cop's claim which for all anyone knows is hearsay. U.S. Courts presume innocence until proven guilty. If you can't get off the internet bandwagon, don't bother pretending you're going to do your civic duty when jury time comes.

Being upset at your kid for making the remarks and being upset about him being arrested are two very separate things. The kid should have gotten warning at best not get fully processed into the system.

He's old enough to be held accountable. I have learned this the hard way when i was 15

CAn you imagine what this mom would say had her son went to school and was killed by some “little boy” who just days prior made same threats but cops did nothing to the little boy bc his mommy said “he wouldn’t do anything like that”. And the cops said. “Ok we trust your great parenting judgment.” “Bye”.

"He made the charge, he's gonna face the consequences." Best learning tool ever, folks.

@@LowTempDabr IKR? Like if the cops really want to screw over a kid so badly he dies before even hitting 18, why don't the cops just kill the child themselves and stop wasting their time? And on that note, where are the cops when kids are being beaten half to death in the schools anyways regardless of this crap? Where are the cops when groups of children target one specific child in schools throwing death threat after death threat in the middle of lectures? Nothing is ever done then. And on THAT note, where are the cops when anything on Twitter happens? Why target this specific kid so badly? What are these people after? Why do they hate this specific teen?

@@LowTempDabr What's the alternative? Wait til he shoots up a school? Nah. He said he was going to kill kids, gave his full government name in that threat, and he has access to guns. He's not so young he hasn't seen coverage of school shootings and he's old enough that he's been through years of active shooter drills and seen classmates who were scared about it. He still chose to make that threat.

@@richardfothergill8090 gun isn't the problem and Florida cops actually encourage people to have more guns because they aren't able to get to their houses in time to save them if someone were to break in and they enjoy it when criminals get shot and can no longer be repeat offenders

As you can see it starts at home and parents/families are the BIGGEST enablers

I can understand why police don't want to explain things to citizens sometimes. It must be extremely exhausting. Imagine having to explain over and over that you can't make threats to shoot up a school.
