When I was about 9 years old, my mom and her boyfriend left me alone at home for a couple of hours to eat out. I didn't want to go along, and I could be trusted not to do anything dumb or dangerous (but maybe not to handle an emergency). When she called to check on me, I ran toward the phone and banged my toes so hard I was sobbing. I told my mom it was no big deal, but she felt so upset and guilty for leaving me that they got home 10 minutes later. That was the only time she left me home alone until I was 12, and then just as a 'latchkey kid' after school. I get so disgusted by parents who have no qualms about leaving little children- and babies!- alone.

Insane! She’s 9…… I think at 11 yo (6th grade) can stay home for 10-20minutes for a quick store run but neverrrrrrrrrr to be left to care for an infant. I used to walk home from bus stop at 6th grade and stay home alone from 245-4pm starting in 6th grade at 11/12yo. I leave my 10yo home alone to run to a store a few blocks away for no longer than 20 min. I have his location on his iPhone, I FaceTime him, and call him a million times. I trust him, he’s very responsible. I would NEVER leave my 8yo daughter home with him alone. I don’t trust her and she’s way too young. Even when I walk my dog without my kids on my block, and my 8yo is home w my son, I stay on FaceTime w her, that’s how much I don’t trust an 8yo.

My parents left us home at 5 and 7. When they couldn't afford care or a family member or friend wasnt available. Thank God my sister followed instructions. My Mom said when she would come home my sister would be sitting on me because I tried to go outside. Luckily we turned out ok. But this by no means is acceptable. But without going into a huge story. Insane! She’s 9…… I think at 11 yo (6th grade) can stay home for 10-20minutes for a quick store run but neverrrrrrrrrr to be left to care for an infant. I used to walk home from bus stop at 6th grade and stay home alone from 245-4pm starting in 6th grade at 11/12yo. I leave my 10yo home alone to run to a store a few blocks away for no longer than 20 min. I have his location on his iPhone, I FaceTime him, and call him a million times. I trust him, he’s very responsible. I would NEVER leave my 8yo daughter home with him alone. I don’t trust her and she’s way too young. Even when I walk my dog without my kids on my block, and my 8yo is home w my son, I stay on FaceTime w her, that’s how much I don’t trust an 8yo.

Yep. These dynamics are obvious if you have been in an abusive family yourself. How can she possibly blame the kid? It shows her default mode is to deflect accountability which is something abusers do alot, even in situations where there isn't a logical way to blame the other person. The best part is, with technology, she can escape, be entertained, and receive fake positive reinforcement feedback at any minutes notice.
