Mom Allegedly Strangled Her 3 Children to Death

Police say 32-year-old Lindsay Clancy tried to jump out a second-floor window after strangling her children in the basement of her home. Now, she is paralyzed from the waist down. Clancy was a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her lawyers say she was suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis. However, prosecutors say she was clear-thinking and planned the murders. They also claim Clancy used an exercise band to strangle her children to death.

Terrified for sure. It is not a quick death. No mother in a normal state could do this. This poor woman has lost all control and likely she needed to take their lives, for whatever reason was on her confused mind. Andrea Yates who drowned her 5 kids said, she had to send them to God, as they would not have been pure enough to survive. That type of reasoning was validated, to her, taking their lives. Like this young woman, she also was a nurse ; evidently both women were undiagnosed, perhaps with multiple personalities. Shizophrenia comes to mind. I was a psych nurse in my distant past and I learned never to judge a mentally sick person. They need help, not blame.

I heard how agonized the father's screams were on 911 call when he found the children. He had started working from home because the wife had been hospitalized for her condition. She deliberately sent him out of the house and farther away then normal to get food so she could murder the children. The first thing she said when she was coherent was she probably needed a lawyer. I think this was cold blooded premeditated murder. Seems like she wanted to hurt the father.

I told my mom that i feel so different mentally and i have a thought of putting my son in microwave. believe me i also have a crazy thoughts of burying him in our backyard and how to start it without being caught. But i just thought it would be so impossible. Good thing i told my mom about it then she decided to help me out on taking care of my newborn so i can get well rested. She made me hold my son only for feeding but the rest of the days she would take my son to her room. Postpartum is real. My son now is 8 years old and i couldn’t imagine the thoughts i have for him in the past. I love him so dearly. I even spoiled him and he is the boss in our home😀

This could happen to any mother. Do you know what post Partum psychosis is? It can happen to ANY mother after having a baby. For years after having the baby. It doesn't have to be immediate. She didn't make a choice to do this. She was in a psychosis. Meaning she didn't know or understand what was happening. It happens to mothers every single day and it could just as easily happen to you, to me, to your wife, sister or neighbor. There is no immunity to this and it is a very real, very serious illness that is not a choice that's made, it's something that happens to you. This lady was a midwife, a great friend, a good wife and a great mother. Every thing she did in her life was pro life and for the health and well being of moms and babies. She didn't make a choice to do this. She's a very sick young lady who needs serious help. We should be praying for and wishing her and her family the best, not villifying her even more. A lot of people saying "oh the poor husband" and "she was in meds or psychosis" I feel sick. The reality is that the husband probably was not even a saint. Not matter how sweet she was he must have at least noticed something from her. Like C'mon she is your wife and even though you won't know what's in her mind. You still spending time with her to know if somethings up. Sadly he probably was not even taking care of the kids, and it was her who was doing it, while his skinny *** was paying attention to other things. Now 3 innocents child's were deprived from the chance to experience life. Sigh. What is also more disgusting is that this guy also set a gofund me after "saintly forgiving his wife for her actions" just thinking that someone could take away my precious child's life fill me with a lot emotions that don't none include forgiveness for the time being. Not until perhaps dozens of years down the road to be able to forgive the beast who did it.

I mean if he had chosen to forgive her 30 years later it was understandable. But right after it happen? Hmm this seem even fishy. At the end the one who really suffered were the poor childrens.

I don't think she deserves sympathy for what she did, just like how serial killers don't receive sympathy for their psychological dispositions. On the other hand, postpartum depression and psychosis is a real thing. My aunt had it after giving birth to my cousin, you stop caring about life, you physically don't want to be anywhere near your baby. My mom took care of my cousin for the first three months, while my aunt was trying to cope. It's a real thing. It's not something these mothers choose and want. If we ignore this, or write it off as a simple excuse, we give up on suffering mothers completely. It's a real thing, they can't control, we need to at least show consideration for it.

Such a sad story that I don’t believe anyone can really judge unless you’re a professional and understand the complexities of such an illness. It seems very strange for mothers to do this to their children that they clearly love, but there’s also a pattern amongst mothers who do this, and the fact that the fathers can be so forgiving says a lot. There’s so much we don’t know about people and what happens behind closed doors. I wonder if the father saw the psychosis but didn’t realize she was a literal threat to their children and herself? My heart goes out to everyone…

Here’s my take on this: Obviously the woman should not have strangled her three young children. But however, postpartum depression/psychosis (from what I understand from this) can severely damage mental health, and considering the amount of prescriptions she was on in order to cure her postpartum (I imagine), that can do a lot to somebody. Now maybe the husband was aware of this, and did what he could to help her in her struggle. But unfortunately, no one could’ve prepared for she was going to do. So while I do understand that she has strangled three young children, I think that we should also take into consideration the situation she was in. EDIT: Just realised that my tired self only half listened to the news and so made a half-baked opinion. To be clear, this is not what I wanted to say. So as of now, I hereby renounce this opinion.
