Just copied this from a website. I checked a few and they all say the same thing: Osmolality is a measure of the moles (or osmoles) of solute per kilogram of solvent expressed as (mol/kg, molal, or m). Since the amount of solvent will remain constant regardless of changes in temperature and pressure, osmolality is easier to evaluate and is more commonly used, and often preferred, in practical osmometry. Most commercially available osmometers report results using osmolality units mOsm/kg.

your mistaken. osmolality = Number of osmoses / mass of solvent (not solution). You just quoted osmolarity

osmolality is the moles of number of particles or ions . moles is just the normal molkes. example one mole of NACL is one mole but 2 OSMOLE because the Na and Cl both ionize and exist independantly so the number of moiles of particles double\kind iff like vant off factor
noo that's molality, osmolality= Number of osmoses/ Volume of Solvent not the hole solution
Totally confused. At around 0:12 he begins explaining the difference between molarity and molality by saying that they have the same numerator but that they''re divided by solution vs. being divided by solvent. But what is the difference between a solution and a solvent? When I look them both up, solution and solvent seem exactly the same, so why are molarity and molality any different from each other? Solution is something you put something into, but a solvent is also something you put something into. So in order to clarify two confusing, similar-sounding words here (molarity & molality), he's using two other confusing, similar-sounding words (solution & solvent). So frustrating. Thanks for any clarification.

Hello! A solvent refers to the LIQUID in which a solute dissolves (e.g. water), and a solution refers to the MIXTURE formed when a solute (e.g. salt) has dissolved in a solvent. The solution contains both the solute AND the solvent. So if you take the examples given, salt is the solute, water is the solvent, and all together the solution is salt water.

I am thinking that the molarity is the solute/solvent whereas the molality has to do witth the solvent only like water.

You dissolve a solute into a solvent, for eg dissolving sugar in water. The solution is the homogeneous mixture formed by mixing the solute and the solvent. So, the sugar in water as a whole is a solution. If 1 mole sugar is dissolved in 1 L of sugar solution, its molarity is 1. But, if 1 mole sugar is dissolved in 1 kg of water, its molality is 1. I hope that clears your doubts.
osmolality= N osmoles / L solvent !!!
