    @@DellaStreet123 I hope you like your Brikka as much as I do, it's very much an equal that I tasted for that espresso flavor coming from Italian restaurant or from coffee bars. Today I told one of my friends I bought an espresso maker so he came over to sample it, I told him not to come into the kitchen while I made it, so he could judge the flavor of the coffee without knowing that I paid a lot or a little for it. After tasting the espresso, he thought I bought a more expensive manual machine like the Cafelat Robot I was talking about doing that recently with him, and all I was using was just store-bought espresso beans from Costco! When I showed him the maker, and told him how much I paid for it, he thought I was kidding and just messing with him! So, I made another cup for myself while he watched, he still can't believe that a $37 (got it on sale) Moka pot using store bought beans was performing as well as his $1,200 La Pavoni manual machine (I can't justify spending that much just to make coffee, the Cafelat Robot was the limit to what I could justify spending). Now I have no reason to buy the Cafelat Robot I was considering, saved myself $360! That Bialleta Brikka is amazing, I know what die hard espresso people are going to deny this, but not only do I think it has the same level of taste as a professional espresso but my friend thought it at least matched his La Pavoni in flavor. Of course, different beans will yield different results, I was using Cameron's Velvet Moon Espresso Roast I bought from Costco; I like to experiment so I will be trying other beans, but they will all come from...egads, a grocery store?! I hear that's an espresso sin, so don't tell anyone.

    Agreed, the first one had problems, they overcomplicated the pressure valve, but they realized the problem and simplified it dramatically, it looks like a normal Moka pot except for the opening in the lid, which I'm not sure why they put that opening there, maybe so we can see the coffee coming in? there is no need for it, but no coffee has ever come flying out of it so it doesn't hurt it any.

    is there a stainless steel brikka?

  • @Rekmeyata

    @Rekmeyata

    2 жыл бұрын

    No, but you don't really need stainless steel. The aluminum is coated so that you won't get any aluminum into the coffee, but that also means you can't wash it with any sort of soap or put it in the dishwasher because the detergent will remove the coating and ruin the pot. So, after every use you have to rinse it out with hot water really well, and once a month or so run vinegar through the unit, I think I remember the directions saying 2 teaspoons to the water in the water tank, then run it like you would making coffee, then when you're done, rinse out the unit and then run plain water through it to get any last potential vinegar taste from getting into the coffee out of it. The only advantage to stainless steel is if you are the kind of person who just has to be able to put it in the dishwasher. Bialetta does make a stainless steel moka pot, but again it won't have the flavor that the Brikka can make, plus for some reason, there is much greater room for error with the Moka pot vs the Brikka where the window of error is smaller.

    @@duncanm6026 Correct, but a lot of people ask that because they think it's unsafe to drink hot liquids that come out of aluminum, the fact of the matter is, its not unsafe, Italians have been drinking their coffee out of Moka pots and Neapolitan aluminum pots for years and they're not dying prematurely, or slowly became brain dead. But, since people raised a huge stink about it, Bialetti anodized the aluminum to help sooth peoples minds.

    Are you sure that the brikka that youre using is a 4-cup one? You poured 120 ml which is corresponding to the 2 cups brikka.. the 4 cups requires 180 ml .. Nevertheless I just received my new 2-cupa bialetti brikka today, and couldn't make such a nice and rich crema as you got.. is the secret hidden in the coffee itself (im using lavazza Crema e gusto n.7) or the secret lies in the cold water that you used in the moka-pot? I use to own a regular Moka pot, the flavor changed all the time, it was a strong flavor. I just bought the Brikka, and have been using it for a week, the one thing I noticed immediately is that it taste much more like espresso I would get at an Italian restaurant! That one thing alone surprised me, I wasn't able to get the regular Moka pot to taste like espresso at all. The other thing I notices during the week is that the flavor doesn't change near as much as the old Moka pot, the old moka pot varied in taste from one brew to another, not so much for the Brikka. In my opinion, I really love the Brikka. I never owned the first incarnation of the Brikka with the fat head on top, so I can't comment on whether it was better or not, but I did see a few videos and they all thought the newer version is better. Obviously this is going to be subject to ones own taste, some will like the older version and some will like the newer version.

    @@peteri3815 I have an AeroPress, I cannot get that espresso flavor out of it like I can with the Brikka. I rate the AeroPress flavor of coffee on par with a French Press, the only difference is the AeroPress makes a bit smoother coffee due to the filter taking out some of the oil and coffee particulates found in French Press coffee, so while there is a taste difference the AeroPress is a far cry from espresso. I have several ways I make coffee, my wife calls me a coffee snob! She even found me a coffee cup that says that! LOL!! All my methods for making coffee are cheap to buy. My cheapest method for making coffee cost me $5 plus tax called a Cezve I got at an international market where I live, I make Turkish coffee with it, and that coffee has a very unique flavor that is completely different from other coffees. Like I said, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the AeroPress and the French Press, but with pour over, which I also do, is just a bit different than those other two; but cold brew, which I do as well, Turkish, and the Brikka are completely on a different taste scale then the other 3. When I go bike camping I only do pour over because I use a GSI Outdoors Java Drip maker that folds up very flat, takes up hardly any space, and weighs next to nothing, and it cost me $9 on sale, the coffee from it is ok, but I'm camping and not trying to get espresso. I tried instant espresso for camping and it was nasty, my GSI pour over is far better than instant.

    Turkish coffee has a unique flavor different from the coffee you're used to, Also the grind has to be a powder-like grind, and it's best to use real Turkish or Bosnian coffee. I have an international market where I live and the owner advised me to use Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi brand, I have tried one other but that one was the best like the store owner said, but there are several other brands on the market that the market doesn't carry so not sure what those taste like. The flavor is so different I thought I was doing it wrong, so I went to a Turkish restaurant and had some coffee, I was doing it right! The taste was the same. There are You Tube videos that can show you how to make it, it's pretty easy actually, which it had to be because it was the first type of coffee making in the world, meaning it's the oldest method.
