Only because he was misadvised by his agents, who just wanted money. He was open to joining Liverpool if they made a bid, then they made a bid and suddenly he only wanted to join Chelsea. Why? Money. This is a very good sum up of the entire saga. The length of the saga has almost killed me as a Brighton fan but I'm glad to finally see him go and us get the money we wanted for him.

You know what’s crazy is that originally Liverpool was going after Romeo Lavia but because they thought they can go after Caicedo they left Lavia behind and because of that, that made Lavia mad. Once the Caicedo deal fell apart due to Caicedo saying no (he prefers Chelsea over Liverpool for some reason, I’m assuming because of playing time) they went back to Lavia. Now that Romeo Lavia felt like he was second choice decided to decline Liverpool and also move over to Chelsea as well. Liverpool took two L’s going for one guy while Chelsea made two W’s. Cant believe anyone would go to Chelsea especially being a sh*t show situation waiting to crumble (at least financially in a few years).

I mean I understand where Lavias coming from but he also needs to be a little realistic. He’s 19 and he was a stand out for a team that got relegated which isn’t saying much. I don’t think he was good enough to be a consistent starter for Liverpool if they had any title aspirations.

For Liverpool it's been embaressing, not because he chose Chelsea but mainly because Liverpool showed all their cards with how they went about the transfer, announcing it, being in competition with a Chelsea side who were adament for 6 months about signing him and failing to sign Caicedo. Showing the world they had over £100 million to spend pretty much writing off getting Lavia for a decent price too. Caicedo as you said is not worth anywhere near £100 million, but it's obvious why he chose Chelsea, that 8 year contract is such financial security it's hard to pass. For Liverpool, I'd imagine some people involved with this attempt would be losing their jobs.

Footballing reasons aside, you still have to sign a good deal. An 8 year contract on 90k insures that he's the only one that loses whatever his outcome is at Chelsea.
