Hi Kim, I came to watch this video as a supplementary link from Modal Verbs (Les 24) of the beginners course. From this lesson I now see another supplementary link to the 'Sexy Soft Ketchup' and also you have introduced the construction of the irregular past tense, although not actually used it in the examples (?) Most helpfully the Beginners lessons were numbered and I could follow your excellent course structure, but as i now move on to the linked videos and also the larger quantity of your other 'Dutchies to be' videos I can't see any obvious index system to keep my learning in a phased sequence. I can't tell which video to go to next. KZread appears to index them under verbs, grammar, phrases, words....etc. Do you have a recommended individual order of videos for students to follow, if so where can i find it please. I understand that you are continually adding to the list of your productions but at this stage I'm enjoying 'coming to the classroom' everyday and being told what I should learn next. Thanks.

Hoi Clive, I get your struggle with finding the right order after the beginners’ course. Dat is een goeie vraag! er zijn een paar werkwoorden in het Nederlands met “te” (zoals ook proberen en besluiten bijvoorbeeld), en waarom? Geen idee.. sorry!

So in Dutch you would never say Ik moet niet? And ik wil niet is always considered impolite?

That depends on the context. If someone offers you something to drink or eat, asking you: "WIL je iets eten?" then you don't answer with "ik wil niet", because it's quite impolite. In that case you say "ik hoef niet(s)". But in almost any other circumstances, like for instance: "wil je naar de bioscoop?" then you answer with "nee, ik wil niet naar de bioscoop". For moeten there are only a couple of instances that you can say "ik moet niet". For instance: "ik moet niet vergeten om mijn portemonnee mee te nemen!" (I shouldn't forget to bring my wallet". But when you say something in the sense of "I don't need/I don't have to do something", then you don't say "ik moet".

Wat is het verschil tussen "durven" en de woorden die je zojuist hebt uitgelegd?

"Durven" betekent: "to dare" en het is geen modaal werkwoord in het Nederlands. Spreek je misschien Duits? Het Duitse "dürfen" betekent in het Nederlands: "mogen".

Je and jouw are both possessive pronouns and you can both use them, so your way of using them is also correct!

Best wel veel. We hebben de modale werkwoorden en dan "hebben", "zijn", "worden", "gaan", maar ook werkwoorden als "proberen", "zitten", "staan", etc, kunnen als hulpwerkwoord gebruikt worden!

I used to think It's only my mom asking about WC going before leaving LOL :D

In your example "Je mag geen wijn drinked, want je bent te jong." could you also say "...omdat je bent te jong"? I've seen both used to mean 'because'.
