you obviously have no concept of what a score of 200 iq is, that's so far beyond ridiculously smart it's almost scary. bundling things together to add up to more and coating things in wax for similar purposes has been done for centuries, including back when almost everyone was by todays metric an absolute moron. it's just a handy old trick most forgot about. 200 iq? that's the level at which you have people making personal self ignition type devices powered with chemical reactions and the like, those people will buy or create mini flares and a special resin based wax and make auto fire starters that burn like thermite. source? I've known people in the 160-180 iq range and the junk they come up with is crazy and not just some old archaic tip....now I'm not saying it's a bad tip,it's perfectly valid, but it's by zero means amazing,100 years ago everyone would know these things. 200 iq is more like looking into the future to solve a problem, not the past sorry.

My favorite variation of this trick is the one that instead of using the wax and string uses plastic, instead of match sticks uses butane, and instead of strike anywhere heads uses rolling steel over a flint to create a spark to light the butane. My favorite variation of this trick is the one that instead of using the wax and string uses plastic, instead of match sticks uses butane, and instead of strike anywhere heads uses rolling steel over a flint to create a spark to light the butane. They are cheap, store easily, and are found in most stores. They have a low learning curve and, like all bushcraft tools, when used properly, work hella good.

These particular matches (I have a box of them) are not at all waterproofed, as most "strike anywhere" matches are also not waterproofed. Most waterproofed matches, even storm matches (where the match head compound extends halfway down the stick, are also not strike anywhere. But any match can be waterproofed by dipping it in wax. This DIY firefighter looks very simple, robust, and useful. Great channel.

waterproof? no. splashproof? yes. if you expose them to wet conditions too much the compound on the head will sog up and come off.
