Modern WDC PIA in a CoCo3
While original PIA chips can still be found, they are getting scarce.
The 65C21 by WDC is a modern drop-in replacement for the 68B21 or '22, but apparently there may be unexpected side-effects.
In this video I expose one of those side-effects.

Interesting. I have a CoCo 3 that I suspect has a bad keyboard PIA. Good to know there is a currently manufactured replacement, but it could be a problem if it messes up other stuff. Hmm.

There are a few originals on the market, but they are as-removed and drying up. Edit: more likely your keyboard mylar has deteriorated. Replacement boards are available! "Keyfix3" for example
Try Donkey Kong Remixed, it's a little more challenging with the new chip.

Oddly, both Donkey Kong releases play at normal speed on this machine. 🤔
You keep saying Western Digital. WDC is short for Western Design Centre
