Like when I saw some videos making fun of old-school metalcore kids and I was like "hahaha yeah that me but like .... can this be a full song?". Also, "Bad Guy" from Anthony Vincent with Jared Dines (Bad Guy - Billy Eilish in the style of Breaking Benjamin) is an amazing example of making fun of something while also making it sound amazing.

I absolutely love the heaviness of modern metal but I miss those days where songs have technical and fun to play riffs. I used to practise a lot to cover those songs but nowadays I just go 000000 on my 8 string with pitch shift thats low as hell. It is heavy but sometimes boring to play.

Thankfully we still have Tech death like Inferi, but I miss the days of Monuments by This or the Apocalypse (Now HAWK), Infinite Death by Thy Art, Common Man's Collapse by VoM and Rareform by ATB. None of those bands are anything close to what they were.

I'm not a metal fan, but would go to metal shows often with a friend. To me, it sounded like a competition to see who could make the most noise (the drummer is using the footpedals at 1000 bpm, and he's winning by a lot). I really love the enthusiasm from the whole band tho.

I mean, all you should care about is sound, else you're not "listening" to music. So, if the guitar player did all that research to get his tone like that while maintaining it THAT creative, I'd say is respectable. A lot more than a "virtuoso" who never learned about sound.

As a rock drummer in a band like this, I can agree. This exactly how it is.
We enjoy this stuff lol Until it becomes too much of a pain lol I don't know if anyone else does this but I do kind of find it funny that I'm looking to program drums for tracks even though I'm primarily a drummer over a bassist and a guitarist... Recording drums is way too much effort 😭 That being said, recording actual drums does allow for a lot more articulations and timbres than programming!

You gotta always evaluate the character of drum machine vs actual drummer. I prefer Drum Machine over an actual drummer even in metal since it sounds unnatural but also more unique. For a good album thats almost all Drummachine Nailbomb - Point Blank comes to mind. Sadly no one in the band remembers what drum machine was used anymore. P much all my black metal stuff was 808 since its suprisingly good for blast beats.

Prog and djent have become so manufactured to my ears that as soon as I hear something new I can't help but think "I've basically heard this before", the same way I used to do with mainstream pop songs. It's rare for a metal or rock band to get me anymore

I switched mainly to Japanese music because their musicians are going so hard. Nemophila for heavy metal, Band-maid for hard rock, Lovebites for a bit of power metal, and Hanabie for more creative cutesy mixed with super deep screams. They're also all female bands so to me Japanese women are the face of heavy music now. @@RasheedKhan-bm8fm

I feel like this is a result of audio-engineer metal, stuff like Mick Gordon's work. You can just program the drums to be crazy and they'll sound real/good enough, and then just do basic downtuned super prod'd guitar stuff, and you'll sound super heavy and "pro" without any actual instrument playing ability.

The sound engineering is actually quite hard to get those industrial sort of sounds. If you just programmed drums without a good idea of sound design itd sound like absolute shit. It's really hard to make any programmed drums sound good enough, be that some overpriced hi res drumkit sample pack, a drum machine or a crappy 12 bit rompler sound library. Pretty much half of the sound people associate with most metal genre comes from post-production anyways. There's alot of old death metal and black metal demo tapes which would be a great example of how alot of the heaviness comes from a studio engineer putting delays and compressors on things. Hell even the Trve Kvlt stuff people still fight over nowadays is basically amateur sound engineering.
