Mary, on another video the girl said that you should switch on the mickmill first and add the graines after. She explained why. She said she did like you did once and it got completely stuck… she had to call for help and got it unstuck.. but to prevent to grip the machine they said to switch it on first before adding the graines.

Mary, I love the way you are willing to put yourself out there reading directions on these things. Omg I was sweating thru the process just watching lol as I've been there. I always read directions, but sometimes the simplest task can sound very complicated outlined step by step on paper! :) My young nephew put together a somewhat complicated toy from the planetarium in nothing flat, while I had the instructions spread out on the floor reading step one, trying to "help" him. I pointed out a problem on one aspect of his process, but he already had it modified to his own taste and left that part out altogether. lol

Ive had the mockmill for a few years now. Its amazing. The ONLY issue ive found is that you need to use it regularly to keep it in good condition. I found a problem with something going mouldy that seemed to be coming from UNDER the fixed bottom millstone. I took a chance and took it all apart 😬 (using specialist screwheads and prayer!). So you are ALL aware flour DOES collect (and gets compacted) under the bottom stone and gets stuck in the base of the brushes that sweep the flour down the spout. It is the ONLY flaw to an altogether wonderful mill. I suspect if you use it regularly it will constantly move the older flour (in clumps?) and replace it with fresh flour. I'm sure im not the only one who has had an issue with this. I cant even think of a way they can eliminate this issue. I can report that I have successfully and carefully cleaned underneath the bottom stone but it was a difficult job. Because of the mould, I had to wash, scrub and sanitise via a small hole.

I just purchased the MockMill 200 and am awaiting its delivery sometime in late June/early July 2022. It was YOUR recommendations that made me aware of this mill and I’m so thankful. I did a LOT of research on various brands and I found this one to be high quality, reasonably priced, reasonably easy to clean and use, compact enough that I felt it would be a good fit for my home. THANK you for talking about this mill. Your advice was key in my decision making.

Mary, thank you so much for all your videos with the Mockmill. I had been thinking about getting a grinder but wow, there are so many! Because of your review & your other videos I figured you knew what you were talking about. I really like that you are a smart person but, you’re not condescending as some other KZreadrs. My Mockmill arrived today. I’m so excited. I decided to watch your setup video again because Mockmill’s video was a tad confusing. How exciting to make my own flour! Oh, one thing before I go, a maintenance man told me this ditty when I was trying to figure out how to tighten something: Lefty-loosy, righty-tightie. You see, turn left to loosen, turn right to tighten. I thought you could remember this so you’ll never forget, I didn’t. Now you won’t have to think about which way is counter-clockwise.

Mary-I am looking at mills right now... (apparently I need another one) and it is hard. decisions-decisions.. Read alot of reviews and went back to listen to your unboxing video again.... Now that you have had your mill for 6 months and have used it for a variety of grains.. Are you happy with your purchase, and would you change anything.. Like the size....the 200 grain mill.. Anything that would be a negative? I want to omit buying any flours, so does this do a good enough job to make fine flours for all baking? (Which I know if subject to your grain you are milling. ) Thanks so much. Appreciate your opinion on this..

Green Rage - These are some excellent questions. I have never had any other electric grain mill so I can’t compare but what I will tell you is that I am happy with it. The small one is fine for my size family. If you think you’re going to be grinding more flour, then you may want to get the larger one. I will tell you that it appears to be plastic on the outside but I learned it’s actually made from recycled materials! Who knew??? Also it grinds the grain quite slowly and since I have nothing to compare it to, I’m not sure if that is way grain mills work. After it’s done grinding the grain the flour is not hot but it is warm. I was initially concerned about that but then others in the traditional foods cooking community told me that that is fine and not a problem. My friend uses her vita-mix to grind grain… And she loves it! She freezes the grain first, And then grinds it for one minute to get a fine flour. I’m sorry I don’t have more information to share but I hope this is helpful! And thank you so much for all the information on grain! I really appreciate all you share! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

Thank you Mary.. All good to know.. It is just my husband and I so the 100 might be best for us as well. and frankly, we don't eat much bread anymore.. Or even use much flours, but that is because I have issues. I do have other mills, but nothing that gives me a flour consistency grind I want. It is funny because I just watched a video w/Wolfgang Mock saying the exact thing about what it is made of. I am not a plastic fan and stay away as much as possible. All the reviews I read were very positive.. Thank you so much for your opinion.. It is very welcome.. I appreciate you and all the time you share giving us quality information.. Thank you bunches :)

I usually get the hubby to help right off the bat. I guess this is my question...why would I want a grainmill? Not sure what I would do with this. Okay. This and That with Denise Jordan - Hi Denise!! Thank you SO much for visiting!! And for all the kind words!! I live in central Texas in what is called the Hill Country. We live in an old Texas Stone house (that always seems to be in need of repairs!! LOL!!) but I love it. Especially the kitchen - yes, very cozy. I got into the whole grinding grain thing when I started baking sourdough. I found my starters were so much more successful. However, that said, unless you plan on fresh milling a lot of grain, it’s unlikely you would use it a lot. I used my Vitamix for 28 years!! And saved up for this. It was a pretty penny. $299 but they had a 25% off sale so I took advantage of that!! Whoo Hoo!! 🎉🎉🎉

i know this is older, but...in addition to being able to get a true "whole grain" and also being able to grind your own non wheat flour (and trust me that can save some serious money over time)... wheat berries can be stored pretty much indefinitely- where ground flour has a shorter shelf life (especially whole wheat) for anyone who tends to keep a long term stock of food (whether because of religious beliefs, preparedness, or just hating to go out all winter) we tend to store whole grains, and then grind flour 'on demand' so while not a huge percentage of people? a surprising number of people do grind their own flour fairly regularly.

It was always higher because the stone grinding is considered better quality than Nutrimill's metal grinders, and Mockmill can mill a few more items than the Nutrimill. It's also good to note Mockmills have a huge range in prices, and the cheapest model is $200 ish.

What made you pick a Mockmill 100 over a Wonder Mill Grain Mill? I never heard of a Mock Mill before.

Copperhouse Farm - I was going to go with the Wonder Mill but then I saw Wardee at Traditional Cooking School talking about how she really loved her Mockmill. She’s obviously a very good saleswoman because she convinced me!! LOL!! But I am actually very happy with it. Nice and quiet - relatively speaking - and it grinds beautifully!! Thanks for visiting!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️

I did some checking and the Wonder Mill has only three different grinds. I was reading the Customer reviews and you can't get course grind.

I am very pleased with it. It does a really nice job at grinding the grain and I am thrilled that it has 10 settings for the desired grind from fine to coarse. Thanks so much for visiting!! Mary would you mind explaining how you chose the 100 rather than the 200. I understand that the 100 gives you 100g of flour in 1 minute but that’s about as far as I understand the difference. Thank you🌹

Hi Michele, I’ve been doing a lot of research on grain mills lately and I happened to see your question. The 200 will give you 200 of flour in 1 minute and currently the price difference is $85 more for the 200 vs. 100. Hope that helps! If you use Mary’s 5% Mockmill discount link in the description box and click on the link to buy it will take you to Mockmill’s website where you can compare the various models they offer. Hope this helps! 😊

I realize this is an old video but for some reason I cannot buy one of these grain mills. I have checked multiple sails places and am told they are all sold out and no one seems to know when they're coming back. Oh well.

Eye on art - That’s a good idea. I bought this myself. It was not a sponsored post. And I do not get any money from MockMill. So I just did a general overview. If I were you, I would contact the company and ask them to do an overview as you and suggested. Keep me posted! Do you enjoy making traditional foods? I have a playlist of my videos titled "Mastering the Basics of Traditional Nutrient Dense Foods Cooking". It's a series of 15 detailed videos that covers How to Make Bone Broth, Cultured Dairy, Ferments, Sourdough Starter (my foolproof stater), Sourdough Bread, and How to Soak and Sprout Grains to Make your own Sprouted Flour at Home. (Sorry to not put a direct link but I don't think YT likes us to put links in comments. The playlist is on the the front of my main YT page.) Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm so happy to help! And I’m so glad you’re here!! Love, Mary…PS - are you in our FB group? It's called Mary's Nest Modern Pioneers. Come join us! We have a lot of fun chatting about Traditional Foods.

Eye on art ~ I realize your comme was 9 months ago but I’d encourage you to go ahead and jump in with both feet! The videos the company provides are pretty helpful in showing how to adjust the grind. If you are going from ultra fine to something less fine you can adjust with the lever. If you want to go from fine flour to, say, grinding dent corn for cornbread, you’d probably need to use a coarser grind, requiring unscrewing the lever, adjusting, moving, rescrewing, etc, which can take some time. But the beauty of it is you can get exactly the grind you desire. In other words, it has 10 settings on the side, which can be adjusted 3 times I think for 30 settings. I know it doesn’t sound like it makes sense but 10 settings, move lever all the way after loosening, tighten, repeat two more times. If you did that with corn it would likely go right through without even grinding because the plates would be so far apart! So you would find your perfect grind in there. It’s a lovely machine. I’m really happy with it. I had a Wondermill which worked faster but it wasn’t a stone mill and I liked that this one lets you mill right into a bowl. Sooooo much more pleasant to use. My husband even uses it now for pancakes and waffles!
