That's me driving in the opening scene, my first time driving an AFV in YEARS! I'm glad it looked good, haha! Drives like a dream, even better than an Abrams.

Rob - thanks for everything you're doing with the museum and all of the vehicles. I've been there several times and its incredible every time.
Thank you Sofi! Did not know PM-GCS turned Britney over to the museum, good to see she is not rusting away under a leaky tarp in a storage lot. As stated, this is NOT just a polished up version of the XM8-AGS, this was indeed a new vehicle platform based on the XM8. We put a lot of brand new technologies into the design. I was there when we put the first rounds through the main gun and am proud to see her honored in the museum. Facts: weighs less than 40T, rubber track worked fine and virtually silent (scary when vehicle approaching), superior brand new gunners sight, auto-loader.
Great video not only introducing the BAE MPF Prototype as it rolls into the collection BUT also appreciated Rob explaining why getting the piece is crucial to preserving history.
I did my snowbird under 1LT Daily on the Support Platoon for the final trials. It was so far into the program that it was already in our FM 17-15's and it and the vehicle which became the Stryker were the only two vehicles to pass the mud trials without sweating. It of course lost out because of the politics of the Balkan's experience and financial structure of backing of the program at the time. The logistics tail on it was awesome for field army purposes, but by then our higher's requirements went from cold war large scale industrial warfare to small conflict wide area security.

In effect what they wanted was Peacekeeping brigades. I remember the initial requirements were for the then IBCT/Interim Brigade Combat Team was for to be able to deploy a brigade anywhere in the world within 96 hours and the vehicle combat landed by a C-130 meaning roll out f the vehicle ready to fight. It needed safety waivers for the H model C-130. The Stryker became to heavy for that and based on vehicle dimensions a back then you could load more Bradleys onto a C-17 than Strykers. Now they want to put a battalion of 42 ton tanks , (the MPS) with its logistics train, recovery vehicles, bridging equipment etc. in "Light" Infantry Divisions.

@@carlanderson7618 Hard to comprehend, if at all, seeing something like that entering service while in parallel the Stryker MGS is taken out. Taxpayers better be ready to fund the future program too that will replace the turrets with Bradley ones to really give them the firepower, flexibility, and especially upgradeability they're after. 😆
@carlanderson7618

@@KannixKostnix I think they are trying too hard to have a do everything vehicle, like what happened with the Marine's failed EFV. It had to have high speed thought the water, be mine resistant, be and IFV etc. With MPS they want a direct fire support vehicle for a "Light" Division that is well protected, big gun etc. We/they need to accept that to stay "light" you have to compromise on things like protection and firepower otherwise your "Light" Division is no longer light and might as well just attach some M-1s. Again IMHO something along the line of the UKs Scorpion with a 76mm or 90mm gun would fit the bill.
@KannixKostnix

@@carlanderson7618 Yeah, I can see what they're trying to accomplish, but a 105 mm cannon is such a foul compromise over what modern machine cannons have to offer, especially together with ATGMs that it just makes no freaking sense. The whole concept of light infantry, at least at the scale the US holds on to it might simply finally be obsolete. If you can't get the job done with CVR(T), Stormer, or Wiesel, then it might be because it was a job for an armoured brigade to begin with. Maybe Goldwater-Nichols just didn't reach far enough and should have ended shenanigans within the branches as much as it did between them.
Awesome job
Thank you Sofilein. It was a very interesting video. It must be fun walking around NACC and watching all the cool tanks and armored vehicles. ⭐⭐⭐🖖🖖
Finally a prototype hull that won't rust outside, great job.
Great stuff Sofi, thanx for the video! Good to see history being preserved so well.
Great job Sofi and Rob. Thanks
Great video, thank you for posting.

Really Enjoy Robs Description and run down of the Vehiccle. U can see how he really digs into the Nuances of the Prototypes.
As much as I like the new M10 Booker, I prefer this BAE prototype. It looks meaner and combat ready.

Sofi and Rob; great video as always! This is an important addition to the collection...it fills in some of the gaps for visitors and students regarding the Army's light forces thinking over the years.

Thanks Sofi, yes, need all the in between tanks, or we'd just have 'Little Willie' stood next to the latest type, a small museum! 🙏🙏
Hi Britney! lol... great stuff as usual Sofilein... you spoil us... please keep doing so ;)
WTS Koblenz comes to mind. Also a huge collection of military gear and vehicles, both old and new, used for educating the next generation. It's not quiet a museum, but you can get entry for just 3€. A valid ID or passport is required though. Sadly they are closed until further notice.
0:20 Danger sign on the muzzle, how appropriate!
Brilliant Video. I am glad you didnt leave Britney alone ! :)
I love it.
Question for my Tank nerds: If the Army wanted an IFV chassis rather than a tank type design then why didn't they use the AMPV? The Army talks about commonality all the time.
It's a handsome beast.
Preserving alternate prototypes from those programs seems like a good idea for future generations to see the differences between contestants in depth in person rather than from archive photos.

I've seen relatively recent pics of things like the GM XM1, RO MBT80, and even some of the early Leo2 testbeds in outdoor storage. Needless to say all were looking worse for wear. I don't know if any of them are still there as of this day, but the alternate universe M1 and MBT80 seemed intact enough to still do something with them. Sadly the ProtoLeo2s looked too far gone to be of any preservation value. Edit: I believe the MBT80 is in Bovington's custody so there's a reasonable chance of it making it to the exhibition floor one day.

Ciekawy tank 😘
man, i feel like this system or the M8, would have been a good choice back before the M1128 was accepted. tho hey, i can see why the MPF is a better choice than this one. At least we get to see the prototype sit in action
I actually wanted this vechile to win the competition with all its ERA on it looks so cooler than the picked mini me Merkava tank the General Dynamics Griffin but hey overall its good that its going to be displayed looked after in running condition at the US Army Armor & Cavalry Collection.
I forgot all about that tank platform and prototype.

Well having such a vehicle given the current context there is a question of what i think is known as *"Doctrine"* and whether this platform and again the horrific context in point of fact means changing that. As with Germany wanting to build out an entirely new Main Battle Tank and the US Army also wanting to progress with what is known as the "Optionally Manned Vehicle" clearly we suddenly live in a completely changed World and a far more dangerous one at that. That says to me emphasis on "mobility" right now beyond any doubt as no one doubts in the least the USA being contested upon the World's Oceans at the moment and going forward.
Unfortunately it was not offered to the Brazilian Marines 🇧🇷. It would be a great replacement for the SK 105mm. Brasil Need gifts like this.
All I can say is Sofi fits better into the BAE than The Chieftain.
Dear Sofilein, Long time no see and I hope all is fine with you. This BEA Systems Prototype was once a competitor in a tender the USA army has done in the past if I’ve well understood. Does this this tank also have a turbine engine as the Abrahams has? I hope you can help me with this question. I look forward to your reply and I look forward to your next vlog plus I send you love from the Netherlands
Are there plans to preserve one of the GD early prototypes as well?
Had to do a double take, you are worse than me for time between videos lol. seems like a tight fit, but looks rather fun to drive.

Agreed and yet ... The 1990s version was slated for full production as it passed/bested all tests and requirements and yet political and senior army leadership killed it due to the so called peace dividend and $ diverted to an 80 ton 155mm SPH Crusader which was killed off a couple of years later as was the Comanche attack helicopter. Forward to what became Stryker MGS .. M8 competed and was discarded on the grounds of commonality. Bullshit! The fix was in for GLDS . The Military Industrial Congress Complex in action. BTW ... 330 Stryker MGS were planned. Army quietly stopped buying after 143. MGS was quickly removed.... Say @ 18 months after the Army saw the light on these loser vehicles. 30MM Stryker Dragoons has been fielded . Mark my words.... GDLS will get the contract for the M2 Bradley replacement.
Medium tank?
