Mnajdra Temple | Stunning Equinox Alignment in Ancient Malta | Megalithomania

Explore Megalithic Malta and Gozo in March 2024, including private access to the Equinox Sunrise at Mnajdra Temples & Ħaġar Qim and lots more. Hosted by Jim Vieira, Hugh Newman and JJ Ainsworth: www.megalithomania.co.uk/malta.... The temples at Mnajdra were built over a long time and in various epochs starting in around 3400 BC, although Lenie Reedijk (who recently appeared on 'Ancient Apocalypse') in her book 'Sirius: The Star of the Maltese Temples' suggests it could be much older. It is made of coralline limestone, which is much harder than the soft globigerina limestone of Ħaġar Qim. On the vernal and the autumnal equinoxes, sunlight passes through the main doorway and lights up the major axis. The Megalithomania group had private access on the morning of March 22nd 2023 to witness this phenomenon. Also, on both of the solstices, sunlight illuminates the edges of megaliths to the left and right of this doorway.

Another wonderful site that once again, at least to me, looks to be an ancient seed vault. A very safe, cool and dry place for long term seed storage. Complete with an impossible to miss seasonal timer, signaling when to sow the sealed and protected seeds within. Tight fitting walls to keep out any moisture or vermin that would eat the precious seeds. I see they even included a "Snakes in Use" sign on the entranceway floor that they likely used to further ensure any mice, rats or even birds didn't try nesting within their well-maintained seed vault. As for the multitude of small cup marks on the other section, I'm fairly certain they were purposely made to utilize a rich lichen growth such as Calcareous Rimmed Lichen. A common lichen they smartly used as bioprotection, serving here as a stone-binding and sealing agent. I'd say it's akin to 'growing a gasket'. I'd therefore also say their most valued generational seeds would have been kept in that extra-sealed section. Using the age old adage, Form Follows Function, I clearly see a well built and well maintained seed vault. Great vid Hugh, thanks for showing the snake on the floor. I'm glad you caught that.

This is going to sound daft - those stone at 0.55 look very similar to Igloo's i.e the way they slot together could there be a connection to the way they are built. ( daft May be Not) food for thought.
