    he explained right there what most of these critics are ignoring, most people don't have the stomach or the balls to bet big, and betting is part of the game in jeopardy... people talked about him being fast with the buzzer or starting with the expensive questions...but in reality his biggest strength is that he is calm and confident under pressure to bet big... even ken jennings said that about him and that he doesn't have the stomach to do with james does...

    Lots of comments on the betting and his knowledge. I would like to add "the speed of his recall." How many teeth does and aardvark have? 1/2 second later, "22", or whatever. It seemed as though he was pressing the buzzer before the questions had been completed, which I know isn't true due to the way the game is set up. An amazing guy. They mentioned the money he donated to a Las Vegas school, but failed to mention that they (he and his wie) are setting up a birthing center in Haiti. You go, James. Kind of like trying to talk to any true genius, whether Hawking (et al). They have so much going on in their heads, normal conversation isn't on their radar. Can't wait for the Tournament of Champions. THAT ought to be fun to watch!

    I was actually surprised to learn recently that there is no such thing as photographic memory in the sense that is often used. Actual photographic memory has been tested to only last several seconds at most, and is not permanent impression, but actually a retinal condition. The cliche term "photographic memory" has been used as an excuse by those that have not exercised their recall ability to the extent of others. According to research papers I have read, what many call photographic memory, is actually an astute attention to detail and enhanced ability to recall that data. It can be exercised by any individual, but there are rare cases where there is a biological difference in their brain's fissure, such as with savants, allowing for an advantage.

    I love the air quotes when he said "$10,000 on a Daily Double". He's essentially saying that the reason most Jeopardy players are so risk averse and conservative in betting is because they always think the money they accumulate during the game is real-world money, when in reality it only becomes real when you win. Moving away from that mentality is why James can just bet absurdly high amounts on the Daily Doubles without batting an eye.

  • @TheJaybrone

    @TheJaybrone

    5 жыл бұрын

    Exactly it's only real if you win. 2nd is 2k and 3rd 1k so being risk averse does nothing to help make that money real.

  • @galeforce3192

    @galeforce3192

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yep. There are a few things I’ve learned as I grew up watching the show with my dad, and seeing James’s hot streak on the show over the past few weeks really helped to hammer it in. One: it’s “house money.” You’re not gambling your own money in the game, and if you win the game, you get to keep the money and not worry about it in your next game, so what reason do you have _not_ to go big or go home even as you keep going? Two: you’re gonna get a prize no matter what. Even the people who got waxed and didn’t make it into the final round got a cash prize of $1,000. It seems like very small potatoes compared to what James is building up, but considering that these folks got onto the show in the first place and played against James, that’s a considerable feat. Three: going up against a herculean player like James or otherwise looking like an idiot (especially when compared to said herculean player) won’t mean much. You’ll still have gotten onto the show, and you’ll still have gotten a cash prize. People might make fun of you for looking like an idiot on TV, but you’re the one who’ll have made it onto the show. You can just tell them to get back to you when they’ve made it onto the show and know what it’s like since just the test alone is one hell of a way to weed out the weaklings (I would know; I’ve taken it multiple times).

    How can they possibly keep the results of James Holzhauer's games a secret? Jeopardy tapes their games far in advance. There is an audience of several hundred people at every taping. Therefore, there are several hundred people who know if he lost or if he is still the champion. In the age of social media, how does Jeopardy keep those people from leaking the results. And don't tell me they signed a non-disclosure agreement. Even if they did, they could create a fake Twitter account and release the results

    @@jessicalillianweinberg4401 Actually those aren't leaks. Not everyone has Jeopardy at night. The Montgomery, Alabama TV market has their Jeopardy on CBS at 10:30 in the morning Central time. Some other cities' markets have Jeopardy in the afternoon. Then there's also the fact that the people who get Jeopardy earlier in the day sometimes record the episode and show it for free on Dailymotion. Plus, the Question of the Day in the New York Times is almost always the Final Jeopardy question for that day's episode.

    Does it bother anyone or freak anyone else out how he kind of abruptly ends every answer he gives like he's actually pronouncing the period at the end of the sentence. it's so peculiar. Like I'm waiting for him to continue speaking and it never happens.

    His name is Brian Kinney. 2 seconds on google could have told you that, but you are too fucking lazy. Also, since you are criticizing Brian, your comment should say, "This guy is a terrible INTERVIEWER." The way you have your comment worded, it seems like you are criticizing James.
