iirc, the Catcher was traditionally the team captain on the field. Many of them fill that role in one way or another, even if the title isn't always used anymore, they act like leaders within their team and stick up for their players. There's a sense of ownership there.

Varitek is one of only three players to have played in the Little League World Series, College World Series, and Major League World Series. He additionally participated in Olympic Baseball and the World Baseball Classic. AND HIS PUNCHED A-ROD IN THE FACE!!!

It's stuff like this that comes to mind for many people when AJ is mentioned. Strangely, he had a long, successful career (statistically speaking). 19 MLB years, a .280 batting, 2043 hits and a World Series ring.

I miss Brian McCann so much as a Braves fan. The best catcher I've seen this team have in my 37 years.

If you're skin is that thin you should go back to living with mommy

Every Ump should be required to have a body cam. That way we know what is said and how it is said. If the action does not warrant an ejection, the ump should have his next day behind homeplate skipped. after 3 instances, there should be a dock in pay and or suspension.

Don’t need a cam. Just hook up a wireless mic would be sufficient. This video was painful to watch - on most clips we don’t get to see what actually happened in the play itself, but just a lot of footage of catcher losing their cool and starts arguing. Without seeing the play, it is hard for me to empathize with a catcher who simply appears to lose his cool.

I wish you guys added some replays or video that helped put some of these in context or validate some of them. Some of them are quick cuts and a bit more video would help.

Absolutely. I'm a pitcher and I had a catcher with a fire like these back in high school. The best catcher I ever had, we didn't really get along off the field, but between those lines, he was willing to take a bullet for whoever was on the mound.

Pierzynski, Cervelli, and Wieters at the center of most of these.

I love these videos they are so entertaining to watch

The pitch before that was a strike 3 that the umpire called a ball. It was so obvious AJ and Yu started walking to the dugout. So losing the perfect game on the next pitch set him off.

When hose hit his first home run the catcher got mad because he was “ Starring at the ball too long”. If a pitcher could celebrate a strikeout a hitter could celebrate a homer

I know umpires get yelled at a lot throughout a game (I’m an umpire myself), but unless a player or coach is being aggressive or getting in your face, there is no reason to throw them out. These umpires want to show how “tough” they are by “not taking crap from anyone,” and they abuse their power by tossing people for very minor things. They’re affecting the outcome of the game when they do this, and it really ticks me off bc the number 1 job of an umpire is to call the game fairly and not influence the outcome.

I have been an tall and skinny catcher since my high school. I had a pitcher who does trashtalk when he tries to corner pitch and gets called ball 4 times.

I don't understand all the hate against the umpires. I'm not really into baseball, but I enjoy a few clips like these from time to time. It seems the players wouldn't get thrown out as much if they would have some dignity and integrity, and just play the game. There are too many players with fragile egos in this clip, and I'm glad they're getting thrown out for refusing to play baseball at a baseball game, or doing something stupid like arguing calls. The 4:55 clip is an exception where I agree the ump is just being a baby. If the pitcher broke the rules somehow, then just toss him out. 5:31 is a perfect example of what I'm annoyed with. Just... shut up and play, or listen to it and play. You can do both. You don't have to stop the game to cry at each other.

It's one thing to punch a guy in the face. At worst you might get suspended a few games and loose 5% of your salary. It's another to club a guy with a bat. You'll be leaving the stadium in cuffs and probably end your career. Besides, most of these though guys aren't thinking about weapons. They are all talking tough about how their feelings got hurt.
