    3:52 That was just perfect execution on that triple play. For the third out, the infielders followed the book, even though it was an unusual play, a rare play, and one that requires different tactics. Normally, when someone stops between bases, you run directly towards the runner, and then if he breaks towards either base, you can throw to the base he's heading towards. Adrian Beltre is the runner who was standing between third and home. With Prince Fielder still standing on third, the correct play is to throw to second from where he stood, even though it looked weird seeing the ball sail in the air for so long. And, as the announcer said, the shortstop, Tyler Saladino, simply has to run Beltre towards third, and either he's out if Fielder stays where he is, or there's an easy out with little risk of a run scoring if Fielder runs.

    This is one of the most frustrating things to happen when you're in the game. During one of my softball games, I got tagged out because my coach told us to keep running, and the girl ahead of me didn't bother listening to him and decided not to go.

    I heard that if the ball is hit over the wall, then the runners automatically score even, the batter is not ever required to run the bases. If true, how could runners be out if they pass each other.

    +yu stu the person who hits the home run has to touch all the bases under his own power. If he misses one, the opponent can appeal with the new ball and get the out and removing his run. And you're never allowed to pass a base runner in front of you. If you do, you're out.

  • @SonnyBubba

    @SonnyBubba

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yu stu, that's not the case, although 99% of the time it works out that way, and running around the bases ends up being a formality. But, a runner still has to "touch 'em all" for the run to count, and if he manages to screw up and pass one of the other runners, he's out.

    This is a weird one as far as I could tell. It looks like the guy at first didn't hold up because he thought the ball would land, so he got thrown out heading back to first. The guy at second tried to tag and go to third, but the guy on third DIDN'T tag so they both ended up on 3rd. It was quite a few levels of messed up.

  • @SonnyBubba

    @SonnyBubba

    7 жыл бұрын

    There were two runners near third, which means one of them screwed up. To get themselves untangled from the mess, one has to run home or the other has to run to second, because if they're both on third one can be tagged out. The announcer was calling the game for the defensive team's fans, and explaining the strategy. With the ball at second, the runner can't try to retreat there, so the other runner tried to make it home. So, throw the ball home and tag him out before he gets there.

    3:43 I cannot for the life of me figure out why Carrera fell down. No one pushed him, and it didn't look like he was trying to walk away or anything; the umpire was explaining to all of them that Pillar (the other baserunner) was out, since the trailing runner is automatically out when two men put their foot on a base (no tag required), so Carrera wouldn't have been leaving anyway. The only thing I can think of is he jumped a bit when Rivera (the third base coach) touched his back.

    Because if the ball had been caught, the runner would have had to return to first anyway. So normal strategy with 0 or 1 outs is for the runner to stay near first and wait until the umpire tells him it's a home run.

    Wait a sec. 1:30 The fielder doesn't tag the runner with the ball, he tags him with an empty glove and holds the ball in his other hand. That's not an out. Though I guess since he leaves the baseline he becomes out. Maybe that was a way of being kind to him. Getting him out without shoving the baseball into his ribs.

    Ozuna was the runner on first. Realmuto was the batter, who hit a home run. Ozuna on first wasn't sure if the ball was going to be caught, so he went back to first to tag. Realmuto, who hit the home run, rounded first and passed Ozuna as he was going to tag. Since Realmuto passed Ozuna, he is ruled out and his hit is ruled a single.
