    Ahh yes Bob thanks for that. I've done that in the past but on the newer EA888 engines the filter is the other way around and can't be filled so got out of the habit. Also had the oil go down my sleeve on 1.8T engines as the filter cannister sits at about 45 so as your offer it up, some of it comes out. But on this engine it's perfect for it so thanks for the heads up 🙏🏻

    For those of us with higher mileages (and maybe a sports cat), making sure the car has had a good run is crucial to ensuring the cat is still piping hot when it's time for the emissions test. Much higher chance of passing if the cars had a good, spirited run beforehand.

So far I have changed the PCV Valve and will do all future oil changes myself, always used 5W30 and it drinks it so ordered 5 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 for £29.99 as suggested by you. Really enjoyed the video Andrew, good call on the cam follower. out of interest, is your 3rd brake light working? my old Mk5 GTi had the common fault, VW wanted to bill me for a new spoiler but you can remove the old brake light by carefully snapping it out and the new part only cost me around £37 (you likely already know this) :) Looking forward to the next video.

    Thanks again Nino! You know I didn't actually check it as need a helper and never had the time but it passed the MOT so hoping that means it works. I've replaced a few, some via the snapping method. The latter one was on my wife's Mk5 GTI and for that I took the spoiler off to do a proper job but probably wouldn't do that again as it was very hard and it's easy to damage the paint on top of tailgate.

    Hi sorry I have a question, how come you start the engine to check for the correct level of oil? I thought you’re supposed to check the oil level when the engine is cold?

  • @volkswizard

    @volkswizard

    7 ай бұрын

    When you pour oil in, it’s not distributed around engine correctly so you need to start it up then check. Also if you check owners manual you will see oil level needs to be checked at operating temperature that’s because operating temperature is consistent while ambient isn’t (could be -20, could be +40 which affects level due to expansion or contraction). Also needs to be on level ground and you wait around a minute from shutting off.

    This is a common complaint on this engine but is not normal, was reading a long thread on a forum and the fix was injector cleaning at R Tech. The most important factor for crisp cold starts is fuel pressure, so make sure you can hear the fuel pump energise when opening the drivers for the first time with a cold engine. Worth changing the often overlooked fuel filter too.

  • @volkswizard

    @volkswizard

    This started on Mk4 Golfs though it can happen to earlier cars too. No excuse for it on Mk7 but there we go. Water is designed to pass through the body of the door and out through the drain holes. It seems that the rear speaker seals which are rubber decay and water that accumulates can get inside the car, not great as drying out carpets can be very tricky.

    I just replied to someone else about this - on some engines it's categorically stated by the manufacturer that pumping out the oil should not be performed. The general perception is that it doesn't extract all the oil and the bits you really need to extract are right at the bottom of the sump which probably don't come out but this will vary from car to car. These older TFSI engines require 5W as there's not enough protection given to the engine by the viscosity of a 0W oil while the engine is cold. More modern engines nowadays are manufactured to run on 0W-20 / 0W30 oils safely, mostly because the decreased resistance helps aid fuel economy. Hope that helps 👍🏻

    @@kevinmatthews4277 Volkswagen have revised the OEM recommended 5W/30 to 0W/30 for northern europe. If you want to go up into viscosity, then go with a 40 weight oil, but always 0W.
