MK V Ripper Gun : a guide and showcase

This gun was a very nice discovery. It was strong before the recent balance patches, but the increased ammo count definitely bumped it up a tier.
I should have emphasized a little harder, but bleed really isn't useful. The only thing it would bring you if you could proc it reliably would be boss damage, and it's just not worth it in my opinion. Blaze away is huge, can opener is nice (the latter is also bugged since last patch, and lets you rend with your shots; which is a topic for another video)

    It always felt more consistent to me and I always thought it was because of its tighter spread compared to the other versions. Very interesting it has a higher minimum damage like that. I've only known one game to do that with their shotguns and it was one call of duty but i cant remember which.

    Nice vid! I've seen people giving love to the MK VI recently for its low recoil and tight spread, but I've always preferred the MK V since it definitely has the best dps potential across all range. But it seems to me the biggest challenge to utilize the MK V Ripper Gun's supreme primary fire is fighting the huge muzzle climb, and it's not just because of how much the recoil deviates your crosshair, but that the game awfully auto over-compensate the kick as soon as you stop firing for one bit by pulling your crosshair downward miles away from the target. So to maintain your aim to the target, you fight the muzzle climb when you are firing, then fight your character pulling the gun down when not firing, essentially alternating between reverse motions. This is why I hate FPS systems with auto recoil control, since despite in many games the devs made sure that this feature does not become a burden by making the game never over-compensate the recoil and deviate your aim, there's always games with less competent devs who don't realize this issue like Tarkov and Darktide.

    Thanks for the comment ! It's not auto recoil control, it's just the recoil resetting, and darktide handles it horribly.

    I never thought of "burst cancelling" before, that's genius. The fact that its hipfire is 3-round burst instead of 1 or 2 is the one problem I had with the gun, so this is perfect. It's definitely great for taking out specials at a distance when everyone else is too busy, that's for sure. I've been using Blaze Away and Cavalcade on mine, along with +Flak and +Unyielding. It seriously melts monstrosities so fast it's god damn ridiculous. I recently swapped Unyielding for Unarmored and I think it's a little more well-rounded, and still melts monstrosities and reapers. Imho it's definitely the best choice for an ogryn ranged weapon. But the Rumbler gives me more satisfaction from nailing those ranged shots haha.

    Tyr's been preaching the good word about the MK V every time I see the subject come up. I actually wonder if that thing with stability is a bug? With the MK II and Stubbers, stability is a big deal unless something changed. Still hoping to find a good MK V, personally. Edit: Oh shit, just finished doing some quick tests and stability doesn't actually do much for the MK II either

    It's definitely bugged, but in the meantime I'll keep using my funny 3 stability gun. If it reduced muzzle climb while spamming bursts it would actually be really good to have. The braced difference where it only slightly jumps up once and then normalizes makes me think the gun's recoil rampup ignores stability entirely

    Thanks, I will give it a try. Overall I fundamentally love the ripper gun. Probably more than the Auto-cannon and the bayonet is a secret gem that I love to use a lot.

    honestly id love fatshark to make a variation of this where its braced fire is like a sniper shot to really drive home the distinction. good mid range decent long range out a rippergun that requires some skill would a nice pat on the back for the gun’s overall kit.

    THE MK V RIPPER GUN PASSED THE TRUE DUO STRESS TEST kzread.info/dash/bejne/jHVrts6PmtXcpqQ.html Small correction. You do not need to double tap sprint to burst cancel if you are using toggle sprint. Simply tapping sprint while moving forward and letting go of W immediately does the trick and is much more simple to pull off

    Great video! Short, contains all the relevant info and tips in a no-nonsense format; thank you! I have a couple questions: 1) for Blaze Away, is the Ripper Gun's ammo clip even large enough to benefit that much from this? How much of a pause can you have inbetween shooting before the stacks reset? 2) If you had to recommend a couple blessing runner-ups instead of Blaze Away, what would you suggest? Thanks again!

    Hey, thanks for your nice comment. 1) yes, you get 1 stack with each burst (you can see a little indicator showing you your blessings now) you basically don't have a pause before they reset at all 2) ripper blessings all sort of suck, Can Opener is the only other one that does anything for you

    you can also cancel the double-shot by switching your weapon. i find that to be a little more reliable than running to cancel.

    Yep, but swapping back to the ripper slows down your burst considerably

    what are your thoughts on the ogryn skill tree? I find most of his perks to be too gimmicky or situational to be useful, trying to figure out if I'm the crazy one for wanting a class rework

    honestly all marks are good (now). Mark 6 is the best to actually snipe normal shooters at low to medium rate as a burst (2 shots on the mk6) is enough to oneshot all of types. And it´s very accurated braced on the first shots. Mark 2 though highest damage is the one i struggle the most to be effective. But it is still a very decent pick.

    @@starship399 thanks my guy, much appreciated. I appreciate the offer but I'll manage thanks. I have checked it out and the reload speed is the same both braced and unbraced. I did discover a cool detail, if you initiate a braced reload the handle stays deployed during the animation !

    I knew the ripperguns had potential. The MK2 says it deals alot more damage, but the video shows MK5 accuracy might beat it out- It's a ranged gun, while it's fun to mow down hordes in close range, it's wasteful on ammo imo, better to use the ammo on specials, elites and shooters. With the ammo buff on Rippergun and this knowledge I think it beats out the stubber undeniably. That shit is fucking slow and inaccurate and teaches Ogryns to waddle around with a ranged weapon leaving them unable to block or protect themselves from melee properly. I've tried using the stubber several times but it's just frustratingly inaccurate and doesn't have much damage either.. A big magazine means little when 4/5 shots miss at 20m range. Even if you can get it to work, a sharpshooter is just gonna 'steal your kill' by being way faster and more accurate, leading to you wasting your time Btw, does Can Opener REALLY work on shots? Big if true (although they will fix it and then it's gonna be a dead talent. Why they didn't give bosses armor we could strip away is beyond me) Does it not remove the bonus vs armored? Read something like that, where rending will remove armor and that also removes your bonus vs armor. (Some weapons deal 115% against flak or something like that)

    It absolutely beat out the stubber even before, that weapon needs spread decrease per shot to be even remotely usable. Can opener does work on shot at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it's a bug (I hope it's not). They fixed rending making you deal less damage in the scenarios you mentioned, it's all good.

    @@telopots Aight, nice, thx for the answer. They should change the stubber to be more accurate the longer you shoot, like the LMGs from Battlefield 1. '' It's a machine gun! '' And maybe give it better weakpoint damage to compliment the improved accuracy from that. Feels bad to hit a guy several times without him dying. I think the grenade launcher is good as well, decent damage on impact and is able to knock around and surpress enemies in a large radius. The shotgun version is ok too. The grenade gauntlet I'm mixed on. It needs direct hits, but it's a projectile weapon. Usually takes a few shots too to kill something despite having only 4 in the magazine. All in all, I'm happy with Ogryn, and I hope they continue to improve Darktide. The crafting system kinda sucks, not gonna lie. Wish you could just upgrade a weapon and blessing by grinding and not RNG. (For example, you can pick the blessing you want, and to rank it up you need to pay some plasteel and diamantine or whatever. And if you want to increase the stat bars, you pay dockets to boost them. Just something reliable you can chip away at to 'perfect' weapons.)

    If if they fix can opener its still good to have that blessing. I've been using it before knowing about the glitch. Just stab, hipfire, stab, hipfire and hipfire 1 more time.

    I'm useless with the bolter myself but it's not crap. I've played with some right monsters using the bolter. Granted, they gobble up all the ammo but as a preacher main... doesn't bother me :D
