My only issue with the whole “protect” Clarke narrative is that it shouldn’t just be centered around Caitlin herself as one person. It should be directed at the refs, for all of the girls on the floor. We can’t be having Chennedy Carter doing what she did, and not even get a flagrant 1 foul in the game, and then turn around and have Angel Reese be ejected from a game, for a reason that I still do not know to today, 2 days later. Reese got ejected without hesitation for something silly one day, when she could’ve easily just been given a flagrant 1 as a warning for whatever the hell it was that she did. And her teammate literally decked a girl while the ball wasn’t even in play on the court, and she gets a common foul. That isn’t a problem with the game itself, as it’s being played by the girls on the floor. That’s a problem with shoddy inconsistent and incompetent referees being allowed to be the WNBA/NBA version of Angel Hernandez from the MLB. It took the MLB years longer than it should have to get rid of that man. The WNBA & the NBA would benefit so greatly from having protocols that allowed them to hold the officials accountable for the decisions they make, it’s unreal to me that they seemingly cannot be bothered to care. The NFL is just as bad, if not worse. If we can, and do, hold these athletes to account for upholding certain standards of conduct and performance, why is it so impossible to hold our officials up to their own standards of integrity, conduct and performance?
