Great review. I’ve hit both sets quite extensively and found that the sound and feel of the Srixon irons were much better, at least to my ear. The Mizunos were slightly more forgiving but I did hit the Srixons a bit higher and further.

Nice work as always, Jay! I have a funny set of Srixons: 4, 6, and 7 in the new ZX4 and 8-PW in the prior generation ZX7. I like the bigger head and wider sole in the longer irons, but I don't like seeing it in the scoring irons. Had to jigger lofts around a bit to get decent gaps, but I'm sub-80 with 7-iron, so roughly 5º gaps work for me anyway. And the 4-iron is mainly for punches, escapes, and tee shots where I don't need to worry about descent angle. Still, off a tee (with a decent strike) it goes plenty high enough to hold a green, even at my slower speed!

I really enjoyed this review Jay. Exactly the kind of review I was looking for. I disagree somewhat with comments saying this should have been done with lower swing speeds. For the JPX923 HM HL (High Launch) then sure, but I play the JPX923 HM (love them) and have a swing speed very similar to yours. I'm glad to see how well the JPX's compared in this review. Based on the excitement I see all over KZread over the Srixon's (and now the new Titleist line - like the T350 similar to these) I was starting to think that just like Pinocchio wasn't a real boy, I wasn't a real golfer playing the 923's. ; -) My wife gave me the go ahead to spend some money on clubs this year (first time in approximately 10 years) so in reality I bought both the JPX923 HM and HMP in 4 iron through PW and also bought the JPX923 GW, SW, & LW (love those 3 clubs). Based on your recommendation (which worked out great) I don't use either 4 iron but instead am using the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 4 "Hyrid Iron" (that thing performs like it's on rails - oh wait it really is : -). 5 through 7 using HM, and then 9 & PW HMP. I can't seem to make up my mind on the 8 iron (keep going back and forth between HM & HMP on that one). I am thoroughly enjoying the performance of this setup and went in that direction in large part because of your excellent detailed reviews. Thank you!

My son is hitting the jpx923 HM (5-PW) and really likes them.. However he has a gap between the PW and his Kirkland GW, SW and LW. He hits the PW around 140 and his GW around 110. He loves the JPX 923 HM PW that came with the set, so I was wondering how the other JPX923 HM wedges are and if they close the gap between the pw and and gap wedge.

@@matthiasbroek8055 Hey Matthias. Sorry I just now saw your question. Mizuno makes the "JPX923" wedges to compliment the 923 HM / HMP irons. Those wedges aren't designated as "HM", "HMP", etc. but just JPX923. The HM and HMP PW loft is 42.5 and I found the 923 wedge lofts (48 GW, 54 SW, 60 LW) perfect for gapping with the 923 HM / HMP PW. They also look and feel great (very classy looking). Based on the positive reviews of the Mizuno S23 wedges I also bought 4 of them (46, 50, 56, & 60) but went back to the 923 wedges because the gapping was better (can't get the 923 lofts in the S23 wedges) and also the way the 923 wedges have distributed the weight on the clubhead made them swing more naturally for me. The S23 wedges are very good, but i found it harder to consistently reproduce a smooth swing arc than I could with the 923 wedges which are better weighted for me. Hope that is helpful. Glad your son likes the 923 HMs. I love them!

Been going through a bunch of your reviews so thank you for those! Brand new to golf but my cousin said I’m quite good for being brand new. Taking that with a grain of salt and I know my swing speed isn’t fast. But being 33 and athletic I’m trying to decide between the Srixon zx4s and the hot metal HLs as they can be found on the used market for about the same price . I am wondering if you have any feedback on which to go with? I should be able to test the hot metal HLs in a shop but I doubt the zx4s are available since the new model came out. I guess I just don’t have a sense of what my swing speed will grow to with practice that is focused on improvement but not specifically trying to increase speed. I can’t seem to find out what the typical swing speed is for a younger athletic male either.

Hi Jay, the reviews are great. I think you hit the nail on the head with trying to match the swing speed with the target market, the HM HL may be 70mph, the new 241 90-95 mph. People shouldn't need spoon fed. From the reviews i can work out if these need to go on my shortlist or not, even if you swing at 93 and i swing at 83 i can work it out. Based on your reviews i have a Srixon fitting booked for Monday night, so apologies if i am late for the livestream. Your style and delivery is spot on, keep up the great work and ignore the trolls.

Hi Adrian, all have valid feedback it's just that I really need to make the same video 12,different times for each speed profile, where really how the differ and how well they work in respect to others is the main thing to get from a review. As speed comes off if just means the transition into the next design happens a bit sooner. But I appreciate your sentiments 👍🏻 good luck with your fitting, let me know when you get back how you get on. 👍🏻

According to many websites I've researched, the average swingspeed of amateur golfers with 7 iron is 75 mph. Most game improvement and distance irons only seem to suit faster speeds than this. Unless you want to hit ballistic missiles low that won't stop. The average population of golfers are ageing. We may strike the ball well but have lost our speed. We don't seem to be catered for in most reviews. Transtion to hybrids is key. You mention it but seldom test it other than with the JPX HL range.

I would honestly consider getting a friend or subscriber to do the testing for game improvement irons. your numbers cannot be calculated to someone with a swing speed up to 20mph slower than your self. Not knocking you you know I support your channel and your reviews are some of the best on YT.

Hi Martin, thanks for the comment. To be honest I'm in a no win scenario. Recently I've had multiple requests and comments saying that actually the slow swing speed stuff is pointless as apparently not all people swing at slow speed, some, swing medium and quicker. So I'm getting told both ways that I have to do it differently. I don't know if I'm coming or going. All I know is that my reviews take a boat load of time more so than others and I struggle sometimes to justify the time doing them. It's disheartening to be honest. It's unfortunately not a case of trying to keep everyone happy, at the moment I'm struggling not to pee off everyone 🤷🤦 sorry for the tiny rant, it's just frustrating 😊

I understand the effort you put into the videos and production and understand how difficult it is to produce quality videos as you do but I do believe you need a hand which will help you and give you more time to take the channel in the direction you want to take it. If I was more local to you I would offer my services for free. As for the people who think 80 and sub 80mph are irrelevant and watching videos on game improvement irons the clubs would not be produced without the need of the slower swing speeds. To me theses people are the irrelevant viewers and are not the viewership you aim your channel at.

Forgiveness: definitely goes to Mizuno, didn’t matter if I hit bad shots, they all went high and far. Zx4 Mkii weren’t as forgiving as I thought they would be but if you make good contact, the ball goes further and straighter than Mizuno. Feel: Zx4 Mkii hands down. Best in the business. Sound: Zx4 Mkii hands down. Looks: zx4Mk ii are the best looking clubs I’ve ever seen…ever. If you value forgiveness more than feel, sound, looks, then Mizuno is the one, otherwise Srixon Zx4 Mkii is the best.

2/3rds of golfers are over 50 and 1/3rd over 60 in the UK. Testing 7 irons at nearly 95mph and sometimes 85 mph is of little use to the majority. We need 75 mph which is the average. Mizuno recognised this with the introduction of JPX HL. Isn't it time review sites catered for the slower swingspeeds. It's the older generations who spend the most money searching for what they've lost with time.

Hi Graham, if you watch my content on my channel I regularly fluctuate my swing speed up and down. I commonly get requests to move speed around (which isn't the easiest thing to do and retain consistency). Mainly with speed reduction comes distance, peak height and descent angle drop off. Comparing any irons at whichever speed as long as its the same then any differences between them will be present at slower speeds, maybe just with any distance/performance gap reduced due to speed. I've found that with so many requests to do a standard 7 iron test at 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 and 90+ mph for different golfers, its very much so damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. I appreciate your honest and constructive feedback and I continue to intend to create content with reduced swing speed testing going forward 👍🏻

You have a valid point, not many do and to see any particular differences between them the faster you swing the larger the differences so depending on the test I'll modify to club head speed to detect any differences. Reviewing at slower speeds as there is so much in the way of ranges of head speed, it's difficult to produce results that all golfers can agree on, especially if that is complicated further by the range of club paths and face relationships.
