ADAM Audio sits down with Josh Colby of Vintage King at his recording & mixing studio, The Elephant Room outside Nashville. Josh walked fully through his Pro Tools mix of his band's rock and alternative song, "Believe".
Watch as Josh dives deep showing you how to mix rock drums, rock guitars, bass & rock vocals and showcases his mixing tips for you to use in your next mixing session. Josh uses the ADAM Audio A7X for his rock & alternative music mixing so that he knows he can trust what he is hearing in his mixing studio, will translate outside the walls and into the real world.

So simple. EQ, compression & saturation. Stock Pro Tools plugins too! After watching this I went back to my own mix and started over. Ended up only using half of my original plugins and it sounds dramatically better.

Hi Greg! Nice to hear that the video inspired and helped you!
The huge snare "ring" is not my style, but this video is amazing. Thank you.

Thank you so much for watching, David. We really appreciate your feedback! 👊
Thanks for the great Video. I like most that you often say that you using your ear and there is no rigth or wrong! That´s also my philosophy in mixing a track/song.
Love your breakdown! Thanks
Could you go more into the tracking phase for guitars? I guess I could look and see if you already have a video on that though...
I love it. About to mix my first solo rock project. So pumped. Great video

Hi @joshcoxmusic! So cool to hear that! :)
Sometimes you have to take a step back and try to start over. Thanks for pulling me out of my mixing hole.

Hi @sweatygreasemusic! Thanks for tuning in!
This is badass. I got a lot out of this vid. Do you have any videos on mastering or finalizing a finished mix to get levels and everything at an industry standard without losing dynamics?
Those room mics make a ton of difference

Always have. Probly always will. Seems you need a halfway good sounding room though. I never had that. And I would of loved to have a great room. Even a small one. And man at the things we have at our credit card away. To tube that room. And even later that sound. I had some 4x8 baffles. Kind of half walls. Shiny on one side sound foam on the other. Kinda worked. I ended up using them , shiny side sometimes. Loved PZM mics on them . Seemed to work. Do you have a great room? What's the smallest room you've ever heard that worked?

@@wadebradley7388 unfortunately I've never had the pleasure to record or work on a track that had recorded drums. I hope maybe in the future.
You and I will get along well, we both put tape on everything 😏
Way to go Josh!!!
Great stuff, i mix for my church, and the drums sound is similar to what i do. 😊

When is this song going to be released?
Not over MAY. Not over YO.
does anybody have a link to some good drum samples to mix with live takes
when is this song releasing ?
Hello Adam, what is the name of the plugin you are using to stereoize your drums at 10:45? Thank you :)

I'm just using ProTools stock Reverb (Dverb) plugin, you convert mono-stereo when activating the plugin on a mono room mic. You can do this with any reverb though, sometimes I'll use UAD Capital Chambers or Ocean Way Studios.

sounds better than CLA😉
I'm hearing a lot of distortion. You might want to rethink all the saturation. The voice in particular. Very grainy.
Nothing of this is easy
Sound so good it lacks human touch. So sad because there is talent here. I like your friendly face
