    I want this man building my next 4 bolt 6g72 build. Since ray and merkel haven’t been building anymore,I want him building my next 4 bolt 6262 twin turbo project. This guy is one of the only builders that goes through the trouble of degrading true tdc and valve clearance on all cylinders. I would hire this guy for my very high price build braised on his work ethics shown in this video. He is brilliant. And I’m speaking from the heart not being sarcastic or anything. Be really built himself a bulletproof 2 bolt engine that will take almost anything td04 or Td05 that you throw at it. BC cams, Kevlar TB, 3SX adjustable timing gears. Very very smart way to go with the top end.

    I love this video. I actually have been playing it as background sound to go to sleep to. I used to play a Buick Grand National playlist that I made up. But I’m board with that playlist. Sorry if that creeps you out but I need to listen to instructional videos to put me to sleep. Not that they are boring or anything because they are not. I learned quite a bit from your degree section. It’s something about instructional videos that just relaxes my nerves enough to fall asleep. So anyway, If you ever want another 4 bolt longblock build job I have no problem shipping you my completely perfectly running stock 4 bolt engine out of a 93 vr4 that is currently being parted out in Florida that I just purchased. It should be an easy build as it runs and has excellent oil pressure and low mileage. I already have the rods and pistons that are pampena’s design made from Ross pistons and Oliver billet rods which are also Ray’s special design. Your machine ship will have to bore my block out because these are 3.1 pistons. So basically I want you to build me a 4 bolt with rays internals and rays 3.1 design. With you to have free will to do whatever you want with my heads. But pretty much just mirror your BC cams and I will send you 3sx adjustable cam gears that I have on my current 2 bolt Td04 19T setup. I want you to work your magic and port my heads. Bottom line I need enough flow to spool 2 precision billet 6262 journal turbos. Like I said I can wait as long as you need to finish with your own build. Please take a few weeks to think it over. I completely understand if you don’t want the job or put conditions on the build. I’m flexible. I’ve been looking for a good engine builder who knows our cars. Since ray p isn’t in the game anymore (he will be back eventually he left 3/s world once before 12 years ago and came back). But I want you to build my engine Thank you again for the great video 👋

  • @abowen2983

    @abowen2983

    4 жыл бұрын

    Solid lifters allow you to take all the "play" out of the valve and spring assembly and also lock to give you consitent readings as you rotate the engine. Usually most folks preload .002-.005. Hyd lifters will change length which will throw off your measurements. Solid lifters are only used for degreeing cams in this case. Hope this helps if any other questions just ask!

    You mentioned packing the seal with vaseline, with vaseline being petroleum based it will cause rubber to deteriorate. I don't know the material of the seals but thought I'd let you know. A lot of convertible owners (of all cars) use vaseline to lube the seals to prevent leaks and this initially helps as the rubbers swell but then once the vaseline is soaked in and starts to eat away at the rubber the seals are then trashed and begin leaking worse than they did. For most rubbers it's best to use 100% silicone grease but if the engine seals are rubber then I'm not sure what would be best to use in place of vaseline, maybe something oil based?

  • @abowen2983

    @abowen2983

    4 жыл бұрын

    The way I look at it is if the vaseline is petroleum based meaning comes from oil it shouldn't hurt the seal that is designed to keep oil in. It very well could after a long period of time but after first startup and oil change the Vaseline will have melted out. Grease is a good option as well and I have used it in the same manner. I appreciate this kind of comment bc there is always a better way to do things. Thank you

  • @45Camster

    @45Camster

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the reply. I did wonder if the vaseline would wash out but wasn’t sure if oil would get into where the spring sits. If it does wash out then there won’t be any issue but you make a good point about the seal being designed to hold in oil. I have no idea if vaseline and oil would do the same amount of damage to something. My only experience is vaseline can damage rubber seals but like the engine seal may be different. Great video, enjoyed watching the engine rebuild. I have a 1990 JDM GTO TT that one day might get the same engine treatment.

    Great deminstration tutorial video! One question pertaining to the lash lifters. Wasnt quite sure how or what you did to adjust those to get specified numbers? And i have the 3mm BB. How do i prime them up? Some are hard and others are squishy. How do i disassemble those? Or is it impossible to? Thanks for all efforts making this vid!

  • @abowen2983

    @abowen2983

    4 жыл бұрын

    I used solid lifters to degree the cams only. That's where the lash #s were used. If you are just replacing the old lifters or reusing the old ones you don't need to worry about setting them up they are set with your engines oil pressure. Each time I've got a new set some are squishy and some are stiff.

    Got a question... So when Iinstalled the oil pump. It already had the seal in it. So did the rear main seal housing. They both leaked. Here I thought I screwed up the oil pan gasket. Which I did how you mentioned in this video. So what did I do wrong or how did I do it wrong? I put Vaseline in the seal to keep the spring from popping out. So I don't know if that's what happened or not. I'm tearing it apart tomorrow.

    Tough to tell. Aftermarket seals or oem? I've found with cam and crank seals oem are the only way to go! Lots of miles on crank? Could possibly need a speedi sleeve not likely but possible. You will know right away when you disassemble if spring came off. Is it leaking from seal surface around crank or around seal housing surface? Aftermarket cam seals do this all the time just need to use some quality rtv sealant around outer edge before install to prevent from happening. Good luck and let me know what you find!

    @@abowen2983 it's a DNJ oil pump. 150$ if that makes any difference. I don't know what type of seal was in the oil pump. Nor in the rear main seal for that matter. I bought the housing already with the seal in it as well. I just got the engine back from machinist a few weeks ago. He said the crank needed to be turned. But I don't know if the outer part on crank got shaved too where it goes to harmonic? Anyway.. And got to drive it yesterday. Saw it was leaking. So here I am back on the lift again. On the pump side. I seen it coming out in between the seal and crank dribble down to the lip where it pooled and leaked out from there. Rear main seal, dont know yet. Find out later on but Aggrieved af right now! What company do you recommend. Cause every seller can say their part is oem. And after hours of dissemble jonny 5. Find out it's not OEM. 😩 Ugh

    Good to hear so far I'm running a spec clutch that is supposedly good to 700hp I'm only shooting for around 600hp so hopefully it holds. Did you run a chrome or aem for tuning? Heard nothing but good things about the aem and mixed emotions with the jester chrome?

    A Bowen I run chrome. but i do wish it had the safety engine features you get with aem or haltech. I've ran into a few mishaps(fuel filter clog/ relay blown) and intake pipe loose, that make it go lean fast and if it wasent for me releasing the throttle in time, it could have been in pieces right now. chrome can only do so much to protect the engine (just knock protection and narrowband fuel enrichment). If you can wait to afford an aem. And get it professionally get it dyno tune. (especially knock headphone set tuning). DO IT ! good luck with build! keep the vids going

    No adjustments are needed on the stock lifters. Your oil pressure actually adjusts them while its running.

I actually was able to get them from a couple dealerships since everything is online anymore. I have however seen them on eBay. Super handy to have they have absolutely everything you need to know!

    A Bowen I am currently overhauling my 92 Dodge Stealth RT TT and it's a pain to find manuals. I've been going to 3sx for parts and going with DR650's for turbo replacements but I need to find some off the wall parts because this thing was kept in a barn for a few years

    A Bowen just things like a dash replacement because I had a similar problem with yours, just cracked and peeled all the pleather away or interior pieces. Also I am clueless on what the shift knob thread pitch is because I've tried many sizes. And from your experience, what size offset for your wheels do you recommend? My calipers are huge and just doesn't like many aftermarket wheels

    Brennen Connors The dash isn't that bad at all to get out stealth316.com has awesome write ups on a lot of how to jobs. If you haven't already check that site out. I thought my dash was shot but was able to fix everything once it was out. I'm actually just starting to look at wheels and so far American racing will be what I get. I however just purchased some lowering springs so once I get those on I'll take some measurements to see what will fit. Do you have stock calipers?

    I'd possibly entertain that idea. I'm around 17k invested into just the motor and transmission on this one with no labor included. Price would vary greatly on how far you want to take the engine
