    I would also add that you get a miter saw that can be accurately calibrated. Some saws are better at this than others

    That'd be a pain in the backside to have only one blade and to have to swap it out every time you need to switch between the 2. If I was super poor in a 3rd world country I suppose I could do that, but otherwise I'd go crazy

    Another thing to look for: how you verify cut position. Some have nothing and you just have to kind of guess and hope that the kerf is right where you want it. Some use lasers, but those require calibration to work right. The best use an LED light set that casts a shadow of the exact size and shape of the blade on the work piece with zero effort. DeWalt calls it Cutline, for example.

    Make a mark on the wood. Without turning on the saw on, lower the head and put a blade tooth on the mark. Raise the head, turn on the saw then slowly make your cut. If you need to take a thin slice more, lower the head, without the blade spinning and put the tip of a blade tooth against the edge of the board, just barely push the wood into the blade so it bends the blade just a little. Raise the head, turn it on then lower and cut. Finish carpenters can do this blind folded.

    Something I just learned that NOBODY talks about. Get a saw with a two piece fence. One piece fences will bend, giving you non square cuts and it’s a pain the try and straighten it out. My rigid 12” bent so much that a straight edge across the full length of the fence left a quarter inch gap in the center off of straight. Not good.

    Okay if you're the last person I'm going to ask if I no longer have a miter saw and I'm in the market have gandered at the idea of a 10-in but my gut kind of tells me to go with a 12-in if that's the only miter saw that I'm going to have... What's that game plan sound like to you sir? Also I'm looking at those rigid and Delta saws with the robotic arms. Those are so sick I don't care if deflection is a very slight issue I'll try not to put any side to side pressure when using the saw problem "saww"lved.

  • @ThekiBoran

    @ThekiBoran

    I'd get a 12". Better to have that extra capacity and not need it than need it and not have it. I currently have an old 10" Hitachi, (made in Japan), a Makita 12" L1219L and the 12" Dewalt Flexvolt and I had but sold a Kapex. In a garage shop I'd suggest the Makita 12" with the forward rails and the decent dust collection. If you have space and set up a dust hood any 12" Dewalt would be great.

    Hey, Matt! I'm looking for a new miter saw and I seriously considered the Delta Cruzer or the Bosh with the similar robotic (not sure that is the correct terminology) arms. I know you had a Cruzer and wanted to pick your brain about your thoughts between the two. The Makita is completely out of my price range. I had been watching the Cruzer on Amazon before you posted the deal alert and I have found a refurbished Bosh that I am considering. Any way, let me know what you think. Thanks!

    I think you’d be happy with either of those. They are both very nice saws. The dust collection needs a little help but check out Shop Nation here on KZread he has small accessories that fix that on most miter saws. I haven’t used the Bosch myself but heard great things about it. The Cruzer is so smooth!

    It’s the saw itself. I just went through this, my ryobi 12” saw is a hunk of junk. I’ve known that for a while, but it’s super obvious right now when I’m trying to make nice cuts. Biggest problem at the moment is the bevel angle changes very noticeably when I change from 90 to 45. I’ve just had to guess and check to get some cuts done. Also, the blade guard shattered in my face the very first time I used it, both of the locking bolts broke within the first few uses, and so did the laser. It is currently held together with zip ties and ratchet straps.
