Missoula Railroading! MRL, Marent Trestle and More! - Big Sky Tour - Part 7

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Big Sky Tour Part 7
4/5/18
On our 5th day of the trip, we head West to Missoula to get a bit of railroad action. As Montana Rail Link is headquartered in Missoula, i knew i would see some MRL equipment rolling around. Well, not that much but i did manage to get a local switching some log cars. Anyway, we found a few freight trains rolling around like an Intermodal and couple coal trains. One in particular was an Eastbound empty coal rounding a curve at Alree, MT, we chased it to Marent trestle in hopes we didn't miss it but luckily it came by just in time.
Make sure you've seen Part 1 up to here!

I love checking out the NP 1356 next to the NP depot in this video. It has a wild history! The old Milwaukee depot across the river is a must see also.

I wonder if that bnsf power move is in fact a helper needing to be refueled before heading back to its assigned siding to wait for stalls

I was a brakeman on the Northern Pacific, Rocky Mountain Division, out of Missoula. East to Helena, west to the aptly named Paradise. 'Course 50-plus years ago and things have changed.

Hey its Missoula, my Uncle created their college Pharmacy program from literally nothing. He told them what it would cost, and they gave him that much. Like 4 decades ago maybe, or more?

Is Montana rail link a part of bnsf? Or does Montana rail link crews operate bnsf trains through that territory

MRL is a separate company but I think BNSF just has trackage rights over the entire MRL route from Laurel, MT thru to Sand Point, Idaho.

BNSF owns the tracks that MRL operates on. MRL has a 50 year lease on the tracks and BNSF has trackage rights over MRL tracks.

Think I do remember hearing that they detour intermodal trains over the MRL if there's a prob on Marias Pass or something like that but I think it's rare.
