Mission Workshop The Khyte: VX Review [2022]

I had a chance to use this bag for about a month before I started working from home, it's time to put my thoughts into video form before I forget everything about this great messenger bag.

I totally agree that it doesn't make any sense to leave your phone in your bag. The best place to keep my phone with me is the chest pocket of my jacket. More safe and convenient.

Yeah exactly. When I used to ride to work I had a little Velcro pouch attached to the shoulder straps to keep it quickly accessible.

I often keep my phone in a Bellroy zipper wallet that is in my jacket or bag/sling - I use an Apple Watch and that covers reminders/incoming messages or calls. When I'm needing my iPhone (camera/AR/maps/FindMy kids in crowds at Disney…) it is in my left front pocket when I'm wearing jeans or pants with an upward pocket instead of a sideways pocket that my phone and everything else slides out when I sit down 😂

I completely agree with regard to leaving your phone in your backpack. The only time I have done so is through airport security, and even still it will generally go in my jacket pocket through the conveyor. I am a huge MW Fan and own many of their backpacks. And that tech case is my go-to tech case as well... its a little heavy, but the organization is just perfect for me. I keep my Nomad cables and chargers in the same pocket. I'm not a sling/messenger carrier but I always enjoy your perspective. The same thing happens on my Radian, Rhake, and Integer with hanging them on pegs. Good to see you back!

Yeah the tech case is on the larger side of my referred pouch size but it just integrates so well to this pack. VERY steep price though. Thanks for tuning in.

Good to see another review from you! Re the phone thing. I almost never use quick access sections; they're just too quick access for anyone. But I will drop my phone in my back if I just want to be away from my phone.

Yeah I suppose I would use my phone less during my commute if I had to work a little harder to get to it. Thanks for tuning in.

I have to carry two phones.II throw my work phone in my bag all of the time. I hate having two phones in my pockets! Honestly, I wish I could put both phones in the bag (radiation concerns and digital detox). I typically try to keep my personal phone near me, but not in my pockets for long periods of time. I know I'm probably being overly paranoid, but most places we put phones are places I don't want to take ANY chances with re: my health. Chest pockets are too close to my heart and front pockets.. well You know. Seriously though, keeping the phone in the bag also educes how technologically dependent I feel. Adding that level of effort to access encourages me to be more aware of my surroundings. If I really want to stay connected, I use my ear buds to connect to my phone while it is inside of the bag. Just my $.02. Probably not anyone else's cup of team. I've been using the Timbuk2 3 way accessory case to add quick access to my shoulder straps or my belt. Not a huge fan of the extra bulk.

Ah yeah, that’s a good point. I’ve had to carry a business phone at a few of my past jobs and have definitely thrown the work phone into my packs. I’ve somehow blocked that from memory until now. I don’t think about cellphone radiation too much but we’re all free to respond to it how we want. So do what you gotta do. Thanks for tuning in.

Since you asked: I absolutely put my phone in my pack - so I need a secure quick access to it. My commute is on foot. So particularly on hot days, I don't have a jacket pocket and putting a phone in my pants pocket is uncomfortable when I'm really moving. I've looked at Chrome, Timbuk2 and others -- having a quick access pocket for my phone and sunglasses is the #1 reason I'm in the market for a new bag. Thanks for this review!

Agree on the fidlocks! And MW designs their bags with cyclists in mind. Personally I ride with my phone in the bag because it’s more comfortable on the legs.

Yeah, that’s worth clarifying. When riding I keep it in a little Velcro pouch on my shoulder strap. Especially useful in the summer cuz my shorts get awfully sweaty. Thanks for tuning in 👍🏼

I love my MW Kyhte but mine is in black MC. I don't hang my pouch as it is too heavy on the front and hangs out away from the bag. I am retired FED LEO and have had a lot of packs and bags but this has been my goto now for my new Job. I also placed a Premier Ballistic soft plate so when I can swing to the front in case of a active shooter situation which covers my chest area. Thanks for the thorough review. And I took your advice and swapped out clip from the stabilizer strap with the FIDlock. Thanks again for a great video!

Had to re-read your comment, I processed it so casually that it took me sec to reflect on it. The active shooter thing… it immediately made sense to me as a good idea but gave me conflicted feelings, but let’s not get deep into that here. Glad you liked the Fidlock mod… it’s the way to go! Thanks for watching!

12:48 Do you have a link for this fidlock? I can;t seem to find the one you have with the magnetic closure. Thanks, and great video by the way. I'm trying to decide between the Khyte and Rhake.

Wallet too? Interesting. I have a slim wallet and keep it in my front pocket. I hate the feeling of sitting on something (…🤔). I’m way too paranoid to keep my phone and wallet out of my pockets. I’ll go as far as throwing my keys in my pack but that’s about it.

Shouldn’t hold your breath, honestly. I haven’t purchased a new bag since my Bellroy Apex. I don’t commute anymore and there’s really no other bags that have interested me much. I think I have every one of my use-cases covered. I won’t say never but it’s unlikely. Cheers!

Like you would any pack, spot clean with warm soapy water. Mags require deliberate action to come undone. They’re not accidentally coming off.

Yeah I visited a Timbuk2 shop a while ago, some pretty cool looking packs but I came away VERY unimpressed with the material choices. Turned me off to the brand completely.
