4:08 that's not a generator, but actually mercury rectifier. Its for turning AC voltage from your generator to DC to charge batteries or whatnot. @Milan Velky Not even, a iphone charger is *far* more advanced, and has way more circuits than just converting ac to dc. Hell, what the MAR does then, a couple diodes could do now, its just converting ac directly to dc. Problem with rectifiers is while their simple, they add a *lot* of waves and such into the dc, so you need more stuff to smooth it out. Photonicinduction has a video on these MARs in action, theyre super cool

Well yeah. If the power is still running, whoever owns the place is getting a bill. Abandoned doesn't mean someone doesn't still own it. Not sure why the electric company doesn't just shut off the power though, it makes me wonder if it's still used somehow or those bills are getting paid. Here in the US if someone doesn't pay the electric for a while, they just turn it off.

@@verminscum Same in Portugal (1 month to pay), after that they turn it off. You need to pay the debt value+taxes in order to turn it on again
The power still being on can be for a few reasons: The place may have backup generators and a huge propane reservoir that has yet to be tapped out. It's only been 6 months at the most from that electric bill you mentioned and there is very little electrical activity here. One possibility is that it may be attached to a specific portion of the grid that it can't be shut off remotely unless somebody comes in to do so manually. The electric company could be letting this place sit on ice until someone scoops it up. They have tons of customers. If suddenly a super user is no longer giving a discernable blip on power usage, their system may be set up that it ignores billing below a certain threshold of usage.

I used to work in an ex-military building, a place that used to be an air control transmitter station and it was connected to a separate military-operated power grid. Whenever the power company would post letters to inform them of maintenance or other disconnection, it would never go off when the neighbours places always would. On the plus side, they were never billed for their usage either, which worked out quite well for an IT company with hundreds of computers!

Most of the people that live here are affiliated one way or another. Both of my grandfather's were stationed here. One a master sergeant the other a Lieutenant Colonel who was also a young B-29 bomber pilot during the Tokyo fire raids. My mom was civilian personal working for the airforce for 29 years. That elevator with the control on top was cool, thanks.
What they kept calling generators is actually a transformer and arc rectifier both of which are ancient by today's standards. I'd love to bring my meters and tools down there and see what I could figure out about these old systems maybe even liven something up to see what still works, really cool stuff.

you will figure out nothing with "meters", seems you have no idea what you are talking about, otherwise you would not write such nonsesne.
Always enjoy the exploration vids shiey! Can't wait for the 2nd vid to come out. Always been interested in the history behind these bunker systems and have gotten to explore some of the patriot missile silos here in the u.s but nothing like this
4:07 and 5:55 Oh nice, a mercury arc recitfier!
man i love exploring abandoned shit its so fun, my favorite part is trying ways to get into or onto places
Asbestos warning ⚠️ Shiey: cool !
Always a good day when Shiey uploads, man.
hyped to see the other bunker 👀 this looks like a good horror movie location, elevator ride is intense in case it gets stuck
I have no idea what or who I just stumbled on, but that was way cooler than the subway tunnels I used to "investigate" growing up back in Brooklyn!
Thanks for making my week a little more bearable Shiey.
I appreciate living vicariously through your vids. cool to see this stuff. I'm claustrophobic and couldnt even consider such adventures.
When I was younger I go and explore stuff like this. Never had any of this stuff more like old buildings. The guy under me talked about old welders and trust. My father was an old welder and built Subs for Electric boat. So those old welders know their stuff and learn many things on what not to do. My father always signed his work with his badge number. This way no one can say it was his work that screwed up. I got a chance to visit the place when I was younger and boy was it a huge friggen base. Talk about being amazed.
You’ve come a long way since the Baltic Sea adventures I remember when polar night dropped. You inspired me to train hop and live off grid
Inspirational stuff man! Makes me want to become more adventurous and find more unusual things to do 🤘👍
If WW3 breaks out shiey will be the only one that knows all locations of all the bunkers.
Good to see more of Matt. Love you Shiey!
Ive explored old farm houses for years- what you didnt know or thought was safe can get you in a instant
The sequence where your mate stays at the ventilation and then you crawl through to the other side to see him reminds me of a typical video game single-player section where the friendly AI remains put while you have to go out on your own haha

The only thing missing is getting stuck, them saying they'll help, you naturally having to get out on your own and them optionally dying while you were at it
Guys, you need headlamps (white, red, IR led colour options) KEEP BOTH YOUR HANDS FREE WHILE CLIMBING ..SO can GRAB holds on way down after a slip... Also... ramble on as much as want...we are all listening and some more of the long distance cross country train trips please! 👍👍👍

right? Watching them crawl through that ventilation shaft was giving me major anxiety lol
I love the video Shiey. I wish my sig other and I could do this around where we live. There are some beautiful buildings and interesting places that you go.
your friend seems cool, love the vibes of this video, as always damn cool to see all these places and at the same time very entertaining to watch you two

The glass thing at 4:07 is a mercury arc rectifier, it's the old school way of turning AC (mains) electricity into DC (battery-like) electricity. You can find some pretty neat videos of them running on youtube, normally they glow when they are on. I do wonder if any of those can be fixed because while they are fragile they don't usually break easily unless they corrode where the electrical connections are made. You do have to be careful with leaks around those things though, there's of order a litre of mercury that sits at the bottom of it when it's off.
never have i ever clicked a notification faster. good to see you’re alive & well shiey!
Wow thats scary, what a long way down! This is what you expect to see in movies! Some of that signage looks fairly modern, so must have been maintained quite recently.
that time went quickly so much to see , love this stuff ,totally amassing
these bunker videos gotta be some of the best videos you upload. i understand there hard to make but i hope you upload more like this in the future

So freaking cool. Amazing the amount of determination goes into getting into one of these! Thanks for another adventure brotha.

Not much determination needed... this is Belsize Park air raid shelter in London. The door has been unlocked for many months now. It's right here 51°32'59.6"N 0°09'48.9"W, you can literally walk in.
4:08 that's one that's rarely seen, it's a mercury filled rectifier vacuum lamp. Pretty reliable, so yeah it's often used as a part of the generator circuit in the old days!
Very interesting, looks like it wouldn’t take long to get it operational? Power running in a lot of places? And the elevator running bringing you all the way up to the top? Keep up the interesting work guys! Thanks for sharing….👍
Missed the bunker vids, keep it up! 🔥
keep up the vids man we all love them! hope things are going well for you atm stay safe
This is either part of the old MOD civil defence places in London I believe it’s linked into the London Underground tube system… some of the features like the Mercury Arc Rectifiers seem familiar to other installations around London
this is so badass. much respect. thank you shiey.
Shiey pumping out vids, i love it, keep up the great work
The bunker videos are by far the best
This feels like a gmod map and I love it. I wish there were more exploration maps in gmod.
I know this one! I am pretty sure it's in London, Belsize Park Deep Level Shelter. Nice exploration, loved it. Looking forward to see the "first" one.

Yes you’re right. It’s in UK for sure as the graffiti with pound signs would be only in the UK.
I love it when this man uploads
5:30 I've had so many dreams of this exact type of hallway. At least this one is lit up more down the way.
Good to see you are still alive! Great video!
Love the vids man keep it up ur stuff is seriously on a whole other level. 😁
Wow it’s really interesting to see how this kinda stuff looks like I could never do smth like he does
That thing is a mercury arc rectifier, they are very very cool, especially when they are working
