Fun fact! Tom Cruise did actually do the whole outside of the building climb for real! He just had a single cable attached and climbed and ran down the building, he's insane! You can watch behind the scene clips online!

From this movie onward, the stunts from Tom Cruise are real and special effects are used for touch ups and removal of things like wires and harnesses, crowds, etc.

If I recall correctly, Ghost Protocol was originally going to be Cruise's last M:I movie. Brandt was being written in to take over as the main character going forward, and the leg injury that Ethan suffers during the climax here was going to be a career ender, putting him behind a desk as the new chief, for no more than quick cameo scenes. But about halfway through production, Cruise decided he was going to stick around as long as he could keep up this ever more physically demanding role, and the ending had to be tweaked to accomodate him. (Amusingly, Renner was also being set up to take over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon, which also went nowhere.)

Obviously he is not the movie star TC is, but I think as far as just being in that role lead Renner would have been great. But would he have done all the stunts? Would the subsequent movies have been as successful money use? Internationally they probably still do big numbers.

"It looks so real." It's adorable that you're so sure there has to be some trick to it, rather than Tom Cruise actually doing it.

But the stunts were also real in MI:2 and M:I3 (even the knife 5mm to TC's eye was real)

It looks realistic because it really happened, have a look at behind the scenes, he actually did that :)

33:52 Thats cause it is really Tom Cruise running down the side of that building. Pretty much the only CGI they used was to digitally remove the safety nets from the shot. There were stories of onlookers, who watched this being filmed, fainting at certain stunts, like the swing and release bit.

This is where the series gets iconic. Smooth sailing starting with the next one.

@@got2bjoshyeah, I love the skill sets or fighting styles of the other female agents, (not to mention that they are all gorgeous), but Paula Patton’s Jane Carter is a straight up brawler and a convincing honey pot!

I never get sick of this particular MI. Its absolutely fun in almost every scenario. The russian infiltration, the burh khalifa, the party scene and even the car park finale. All just extremely rewatchable imo.

This movie revived both the franchise and Tom's career. Executives wanted replace Tom with Brad Pitt, and Jeremy Renner was brought in to eventually take over. But this movie did so well Cruise was kept on and his overall career got new legs too.

I love "They make this stuff look so realistic"😂 yes, that's as real as it gets Nikki! Tom Cruise on the side of a building. It makes me nervous watching him, but I can't look away!

So stoked to watch you guys witness the greatness of this franchise! It gets so damn good! **Nikki expressing distaste towards MI:2's rock climbing scene** Me: "Oh, you poor soul" 🤣 Bonus Fun Fact 1: This one was directed by Brad Bird. He's a very successful animation director who has worked for Pixar. He's directed movies like "The Iron Giant", "The Incredibles", and "Ratatouille". This movie also was Brad's first live-action movie that he's directed. Bonus Fun Fact 2: This is a direct follow-up to fun fact #1. At 9:35, we get a close-up of Hanaway's ring. The ring has "A113" on the side of it. This is a common easter egg found in a lot of animated movies as this is an animation studio code from California Institute of the Arts that a lot of successful animators go to to learn animation.

Came out near Christmas 2011. Major upgrade for the franchise. One of my favorite sequels. Saw it in IMAX, 5 days before it's initial release. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratoutoulle and The Iron Giant) did amazingly well with his first live-action film. From part 4 onward, they utilize IMAX technology for core visual scenes in these sequels. This one definitely proved that Cruise is one of the best actors to ever do action period. The cast (IMF, villains) was great. Jeremy Renner was super busy between M-I, the MCU and the Bourne franchise. Not too many 4th installments are this good. From here on out, the missions stay fully connected (thanks to J.J. Abrams as producer).

The music tells him which plan is in action + how much time until exit. 😉 The “Should you choose to accept it” is rhetorical, to add to the plausible deniability. That way, not only can they say a team never worked for them, but they can “honestly” say that no such order has ever been given. There's a pic of Tom sitting on the very top of the hotel, harness free.

I have never been part of a covert epsionage team (but I would say that, right?) however in the military any mission of a similar type to the IMFs is always accepted by the assigned team, not done under orders. The reason is that people like Ethan are valuable for their skills, and a huge problem if they turn against you. You don't want them feeling like they've been coerced or tricked - that kind of thing leads to quitting, defecting, double-agents and so on. I don't think there would be ANY consequences for Ethan turning down the mission, not even asking again for the same mission. It seems counter-intuitive, but people who willingly accept risk and stress are MUCH less likely to quit or fail than people who face even the strictest sanctions for not carrying out orders. America and Britain haven't re-instituted drafts (despite falling recruitment numbers) because unwilling soldiers are almost worse than no soldiers at all. It's the sense of professional pride and inter-personal connection that makes soldiers (and presmably spies) accept huge dangers for their nation.

Matt Damon tells a story from when he was out to dinner with Cruise and asked him about the skyscraper stunt. Cruise said, "The safety guy told us we couldn't do the stunt because it was too dangerous." Matt Damon nods. Cruise, "So we got another safety guy."

Okay, so… based on Nikki’s fear of heights, you should watch an indie movie with lots and lots of tension, following two girls who get stuck above a tower. It’s called Fall. That might sound boring but the movie is actually pretty darn good. However, I’m looking forward to the rest of the MI movies with you two. Also, Luther does come back. Also, Nikki, the building scene looked realistic because… it was 😆 Tom was truly hanging from that building. He did that himself.

The best thing about the Dubai filming was seeing a family's post from 2010. They were in their hotel room and Tom Cruise came by the outside while in his climbing rigging and waived at them. LOL

You always need to watch the behind the scenes videos after watching these films. Cruise is such a badass.

Matt Damon once asked Tom Cruise how the building stunt came about. Cruise said he described what he wanted to do with the stunt safety guy. The guy said it's too dangerous... so Cruise gets another guy until one will finally say yes let's do it.

I had to rewatch Nikki's reaction to that whole building climbing sequence like 3 times that was one of the best reactions ive seen on this channel or anywhere for that matter 😂

The throwaway line at the end about emerging terrorist organisation "The Syndicate" is not a throwaway line, and is also a reference to the original TV show.

The stunts just get better and more insane, and the fact that they're real makes it 10x better. Tom Cruise is friggin amazin

Nikki, consider yourself lucky in not having seen the movie in theaters on a big screen. My stomach had ping pong balls, not butterflies, bouncing around fast when Tom did his Spider-man scene on that tall building!

This is where the franchise takes off.

The Burj Khalifa building window stunt was real. They actually removed a window panel and hanged tom cruise on some crane equipments or whatever those are called on the side of the building. It wasnt CGI, it was a real stunt.

Anyone else here for Nikki's 12 "MF's", 17 "B*itches", and 9 "God damn"s? Gotta say I like the authenticity 😂

This one is my favorite! As much as I love all the movies after this one: -Benji’s silliness in the field, -everything involving Brant or Carter, (great additions) -the Burj Kalifa stunt, -the sand storm chase, -the henchman from the first movie, … its hard to not love this one the most. Even though people like the villain in this movie the least, he may have been the craziest (and he’s played by the villain of the first John Wick movie). I have to agree, that Nikki’s reactions are gold and I enjoy when she cracks herself up too!😁

Oooh I forgot this is the one where Wistrom, the blond assassin guy, is played by this Finnish singer-actor Samuli Edelmann who mostly does romantic and spiritual music 😅 (edit: the opening sequence after the prison break where we follow the lit fuse to the bomb, is referencing the opening credits of both the 1969 and the 1989 TV series that both start with a lit match lighting a fuse that runs over the opening credits)

I like the ending because it shows what every hero sometimes has to go through. Which is to protect the people you love the best thing to do is to walk away from them.

"Are you gonna blow up in 5 seconds?" That aged like the finest wine ever! LOL

Sabine Moreau falling down the building is such a satisfying moment for an incredibly evil witch.

Starts off the reaction saying Nikki doesn’t like heights or angles that look down from a great height. Me: This is MI:4 -_- have they not seen the cover for the film!?

Nikki losing her shit for the solid 10 minutes during the tower scene was an absolute riot and hilarious, not just for entertainment, but because i also react the exact same way due to my atrocious fear of heights. real, relatable, and seen.

The only thing this movie was missing is a great villain, because Philip Seymour Hoffman was so good in the 3rd film. Other than that this movie is perfect, and Mission Impossible 5 is even better! It has an incredible motorcycle chase as well, so look forward to that.

I wish "Sawyer" from Lost was in it more.

The sandstorm is pretty accurate. The giant sandstorms are called Haboobs. No idea why. But the vision is impaired but you can make your way through them. Just putting your shirt over your mouth and nose will help with the breathing. While goggles are best, but even if just glasses are available, they can help.

The whole outside the building scene is so anxiety inducing for me too Nikki. I've watched the movie 5 times and watched that scene only twice lol 🤣

Y'all would LOVE the show Alias (ABC). Once the MI franchise hooked up with Bad Robot (JJ Abrams' company), so many details and plot points were lifted from that show. They include: 1) the bomb in the head from the third film, 2) the needle in the ring in this film, 3) Giacchino as composer (he did the music for JJ's hit shows, Alias & Lost), 4) Sawyer from Lost cast in this film, 5) Angela Bassett playing a short-haired, no nonsense CIA Director overseeing the clandestine group. Alias is worth reacting to!

They really made this movie and said "fuck yo acrophobia" LOL but yeah IMO this is one of the most fun movies in the franchise. Top 3 for me.

Knew Nikki would love this one for the Burj Khalifa scenes. And she was killing it with the jokes! The next two only crank up the action and intensity even more! If you haven't seen them, watch the Bourne movies. Very cool. See you soon!

From here forward the series really finds it footing with the writer/director McQ (who also was a ghost writer on this one). It really becomes a whole saga with interconnectivity, and not just stand-alone adventures.

So glad you are enjoying these epic action movies. Against all odds they keep topping themselves over and over. Some of the behind the scenes of how they filmed some up coming action set pieces are almost as fun a seeing them in the movie. Tom Cruise just keeps pushing the insanity. They edited out the wires but he really did climb that building in real life you can watch the behind the scenes of them filming it with him hanging off the building. So good I am here for Cruise repeatedly trying to top himself with insane stunts done as real as humanly possible.

Another amazing sequel and I loved Nikki's reaction especially during the climbing setpiece! The best movie franchise of all time imo.

There is not many you tubers who will watch the film for no more than 30 minutes and the rest of the video is on patreon , many like nikki and steve give you a good hour on you tube knowing that subscribers are getting just as much as they will get paid and that is a good option if you can not afford to be a patron . I noticed certain you tubers which i will name now cinebench who will only do 30 minutes on you tube and a full review on patron ,just shows you not going to get your money worth . ghost protocol is my favorite of all the mission impossible movies.

if you not to choose the mission, you wait til the next mission is offert to you, but doing that and people get killed in the mission you rejected, you may never get over the guilt a person died and you didnt took it.

It’s interesting that when you’re editing your reaction videos, you have to think hard about which bits to cut or not, but that opening scene, you really need to just let that run from start to finish, it’s so impressive.

Funny she said that, because in the book there's a scene where the Jason Statham character's submersible gets swallowed by the shark and he gets out of it and walks around in the sharks stomach. The most ridiculous thing I've ever read, but it I'll never forget it.

The car crashing straight down from 200 ft is equivalent to a head-on crash with a stationary object going 77 mph.🤕

Not sure if you guys have ever watched Lost, but that main character in the beginning of the film is Sawyer in the series. I think the actors name is Josh Halloway if I am not mistaken

Ving Rhames was sidelined in this installment due to the actor's fee being too high and apparently there was not enough in the film's budget to compensate for that. As such, his appearance was down to a cameo at the end of this film. Sidenote: The actor was reportedly paid $7.7 million for his three-minute appearance so "if" this is true, one can only imagine how much he would have commanded if he were in the whole movie. Rhames had pocketed $3 million for the previous film.

47:35 it's true. Pluto was moved to a category that is now known as Dwarf Planets. And Pluto is actually not the only one. There are 4 other dwarf planets confirmed in our solar system called Eris, Ceres, Makemake and Haumea, with several dozens more being considered. It is speculated that there could be hundreds if not thousands more.

When I saw Nikki's reaction to the rock climbing scene in MI2 I thought, "Wait until the Burj Khalifa scene in MI4!"

My personal favorite of the franchise. Could be the entire Dubai sequence, could be nostalgia because it was the first one I actually watched in a theater. I think it's the entire Dubai sequence.

Digging it that you guys are digging the MI movies. The first one will always be my favorite. It was so well done and it was full of twists. The special effects and stunts broke ground.. And the plot was engrossing. Looking forward to MI: 5 .

This is my personal favorite M.I. movie. All of the ones to come are equally as good but that Birj Khalifa scene was amazing in the theater.

47:35 - Pluto is still a planet BUT at the same distance, there are hundreds of other planetoids that are equal size or bigger and it would be weird to add all those to our core planets, so it was quietly decided to just ignore anything outside the 8th planet ring. Beyond Pluto, there are THOUSANDS of big planets and planetoids orbiting the sun but they are very difficult to detect. Still, we've discovered a few very big ones.

It looks very realistic because it is real! Tom is incredible...

Imo the best Mission Impossible movie. Definitely the most innovative. That being said, every movie since this has been as good.
