From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Lee as John LaMarr (FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), Mark Jackson as Isaac (“That Royal Today”) and Chad L. Coleman as Klyden (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”). The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

I though the decision by the writers to go ahead with the procedure, against the opinions of the vast majority of viewers, was one of the bravest things I've seen on TV. It was completely justified in the content of the story and showed, yet again, how a comedy show like The Orville is actually a better show than than pretty much everything currently on TV.

Agreed. It would've been so easy to have the "happy" ending where their child remained a girl, but the ending they went with was the one with better lessons. We don't always get what we want and we shouldn't let differences stop us from loving someone.

Thank you, Mr. Musketeer! The Orville has a lot to teach us, just like the show that inspired it.

It's still my favorite episode of Season 1. As someone who wished their child remained female, this ending was bitter sweet. Bitter because Bortus and the rest of the crew lost and the people of his home world remained pretty ignorant, but sweet because, despite this discussion, Bortus and Klyden are dedicated to raising their child regardless of the outcome. It was really nice episode that had me agreeing with both sides of the argument, something very few shows can accomplish nowadays.

You've got until the end of December to watch season 1 if you want to have that finished before season 2. It's worth marathoning or at least a couple of episodes a week.

I love the synopsis, and love the episode... But you really might want to put "Spoilers" in the title of these. If I had seen this before I saw the episode, I'd have been upset. That could easily happen, with how many of us are watching the Orville for the first time on streaming, and many more will when the third season premiers. Just a thought. I love the show, and can't wait for Season 3

Huge following & demanding for this series, tremendous good investment, the numbers (national & international) speak for themselves. Please consider a change in networks before FOX has another of their yearly brainfarts & decides to produce instead a show on 'rural country dogs that can play the piani'.... pretty please?

This episode literally argued for the little girl, and then went in the opposite direction. It’s not okay to go against nature and make a decision like that for someone who can’t themselves, and based solely on feelings. This episode is trying to push a norm that is unfounded, not to mention real life accounts and statistics that show otherwise.

NOW I THINK I HAVE A REALLY GOOD IDEA FOR THE FUTURE THIRD SEASON OF (The ORVILLE) : What if on the alien character (Bortis’s) home planet two years since the trial the tradition there start to begin to change; The rule of females not being allowed to exist are now being considered wrong to continue doing as a tradition, and the reason is because most of the people there have come to realize that the tradition is out dated, and also to add very wrong there for it should not continue.
