Cultural context for those unaware: The little Buddhist statues with red bibs are called Jizō, and are known as protectors of women and children. They are often given gifts, such as toys, as an offering. Their main purpose is to help deceased/miscarried children cross to the afterlife, but they help protect the living too, afaik.

Not particularly in japanese culture or anything because I'm not japanese but I have a feeling.. because see- that black figure is sitting with the children like it's also with them, going to lead them to the afterlife. But that's just me. It could be anything related to death or life :0 Edit: it could also be our protagonist's son! Who knows..

It was rather nice how even the bad ending has your protagonist find the strength to keep moving forward, to not let their pain stop them from continuing their efforts to solve cases and save people. You don't see that very often in a bad ending. Obviously the good ending is still much better as we stop the three kids from making that awful mistake. I agree with Manly that the game needed a bit more scares, but it's still an enjoyable experience.

That's mostly because horror game devs have this weird idea that humans crumble into insanity at the slightest setback. This is how most actual human beings would react.

@@Raidenze To be fair, those are tropes that are understandable in context. Lovecraftian horror has creatures that are beyond comprehension and Japanese horror often times has the concept of ghost or a place that has too much malicious energy to it, that it doesn't matter how considerate you are, you get cursed and may pass it onto others. Problem with people who just made games where the protags die or go insane for no reason is really because they don't get _why_ the protag would end up like that in the first place. They just did it because, hey, that's what everyone's doing.

In the Extended MCU (Manly Cinematic Universe) Lore, ‘Ghost T-Pose Cop’ is a supporting character with various roles throughout the series, later revealed to be the long lost brother-in-law of protagonist ‘ManlyBadassHero’. As a stereotypical New York Cop who plays things ‘by the book’ and hates ‘those dang kids and their ANIME’, he serves as a foil to ManlyBadassHero, and the two have come into conflict on many occasions. First appearing as an antagonist, Ghost travels to Japan as the American representative to InterPol in the wake of the infamous ‘Shibuya Incident’, where he is assigned as Lead Investigator. In the course of his investigation, reports of a suspicious individual seen snooping around several high-profile crime scenes reaches his ears, and Ghost is convinced that he has found the culprit behind the mysterious happenings in Shibuya. Despite repeated attempts to apprehend the individual, he mysteriously vanishes without a trace approximately 20-30 minutes after appearing, much to Ghost’s chagrin. Unbeknownst to the detective, the suspicious individual snooping around crime scenes he is pursuing is none other than ManlyBadassHero looking for *secrets* while playing Japanese Horror Games. After an extended game of cat and mouse, Ghost and Manly eventually put aside their differences and join forces to solve the ‘Shibuya Incident’ once and for all and unlock the True Ending. In the Season Finale, as thanks for his assistance in bringing the culprit to justice, Ghost allows Manly to escape, saying, “Listen here, Manly, I’m a Cop. I do things by the book, see? No snooping around sticking your nose where it don’t belong looking for ‘secrets’ and watching your ‘Anime’. I don’t approve of that nonsense. But today, well, you’re the real Hero, kid. Now, Ima go T-Pose in this corner, and when I turns back around, you better be gone. And if I ever sees ya again, I’m throwing the book at ya- you got it, kid?” Only then did Ghost realize that he was alone in the darkened alley. Walking over to where Manly had stood mere seconds earlier, he spotted a small scrap of paper fluttering in the breeze. It read, “Thank you for watching. I’ll see you later. And take it easy.” Squinting, Ghost glanced at the bottom of the paper to find a crudely drawn cartoon figure. Shaking his head, he walked away, grumbling to himself: *“Anime...”*

Man, that second girl triggered memories. I had a friend with a terrible family. He told me all about the stuff his dad did and how his mother didnt bother or try to stop him. It wasnt that she was afraid. It was more she didnt care and sometimes sided with his dad. It got so bad that 1 day, he shot himself. At least, that's what I think because they never let anyone see him. On his facebook post, his parents expressed their regret, how sad they were and how they never saw it coming. I got so angry because they acted like victims, got everyone's sympathy, yet They were the reason he did it. They just dont want to face the truth. Or maybe they do know and if anyone found out, they would be arrested. I despised them for taking my close friend. I felt with survivors guilt for a year, wishing I had done or said something. He always said it wasnt that bad and how he would move out at 18. He never got that chance. Even if his parents have a change of heart, it's the 1 thing I cant forgive them for. And I dont think I will ever will. You took my friend because of your abuse. Your religion, god, whatever you follow may forgive you. But that wont give me back my friend.

As someone who deals with the unhealthy thoughts the kids had... I find this whole game to be almost relaxing rather then scary. I think I like the bad ending the best... not because people die but because the protagonist is finding the strength to continue from the sadness, that it has a moral to it that even if you fail multiple times it isn't over. It is less cliche then the kids turning their life around without issue and happy ending and gives a better message, in my opinion, that no matter how horrible things are you can make things better. I figure other people will see it differently, I just really like that sort of dark ending... where the character can learn to accept it and move on no matter how horrible or how close they were to it. ...that being said it appears the black figure was the lost son and if you fail to save the 3 kids he might try to kill you for failing? I could be mistaken on this but it does have an interesting edge to it. Either way this game is oddly fascinating yet I'd call it so-so at the end of the day. Not bad, not good, but still worth it. I like it when things hit that nice spot where it just makes me feel nice, without being too heavy or light.

The only other scenario I can think of that's similar is one of the ending episodes of Paranoia Agent, where a sickly housewife stands up against a symbolic entity of false escapism that was causing trouble for other characters throughout the series, which they were using to keep from facing up to tragic moments in their lives, in one way or another. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm guessing Takumi was the one sitting next the kids in the black bodybag in the good end, and he really was the one to save them. Maybe something about the windmills coming from their areas helped him find them before they died? Wonder if he was trying to keep you from falling into the lake in the bad ending, too. He certainly scared *us*, but he probably knew seeing the bodies of the kids in the lake + the other paranormal stuff would have made our protag follow them in somehow. With that in mind, the sequel to this game should involve the protag teaming up with their dead son for real to solve more mysteries.

Regarding windmills, one person commented above: >Kiraneaux Le >Cultural context for those unaware: >The little Buddhist statues with red bibs are called Jizō, and are known as protectors of women and children. They are often given gifts, such as toys, as an offering. Their main purpose is to help deceased/miscarried children cross to the afterlife, but they help protect the living too, afaik. Also, see www.ancientpages.com/2015/12/23/jizo-protector-children-travelers-women-japanese-mythology/ So, with those windmills, you are trying to get attention of kami that is not against helping children. I think that considering a date when they got missing, if you catch attention of this Jizo dude, he bends time so you get a chance to save them in a previous day. Bodybag dude is something I don't really get. Maybe it was MC's son, attracted by scent of despair from three kids. Maybe he tried to stop them; or maybe not. Not sure. In the bad ending that bodybag dude is lashing out at MC to push her into water. Don't know what that means.

  • @chalcedonycoral1943

Another weird theory. Perhaps that bodybag dud was Takumi. Perhaps kami takes him out of picture and restrains him (smuggles his soul to rest under his cloak through the bridge for the dead?). Perhaps this bodybag dude is the reason why kids die before you get there in time, so if Takumi restrained/saved, they do not commit suicide that quickly and you can reach them in time.

This one reminds me a lot of some one from the early 2000's where you were a detective looking into disappearances surrounding this artifact (Egyptian? Mayan? I forget) and all the gameplay was just fetch quests with some extra fetchquesting to do too for a better ending. It had some creepy atmosphere but you adapted and felt safe pretty early. There was some jump scare stuff at the end but it also wasn't a threat. I forget the name of it but I remember that when you were done dealing with people, they'd run off and vanish, even if it was a place where it didn't seem like that could happen, like a closed room and they'd just run off to a corner and vanish.

Manly commenting on the NPC's chin problems, but not the fact that they have super flat noses. :P 8:48 - This developer sure likes making video games about domestic abuse. That was also the theme in _The Convenience Store_ and _Onryo_ . --- Me: _(nibbling on Pringles)_ 37:14 - JUMPSCARE Me: _(almost chokes on Pringles)_ --- Have the same thoughts as Manly: liked the detective/mystery potential, but the game isn't as scary or tense like the previous two. But at least in the good end you not only save the girls from suicide, but also help them get out of the terrible situations they were in that led them to trying to commit suicide in the first place. I liked that.

Relax, calm down and get chill. Animals die a lot. Humans die a lot. If it triggers you so much then there might have been trauma, so I wouldn't pry too much into it. But it's pretty normal thing. Dying feels bad - painful, uncertain, sometimes regretful. But if you live every moment like your last, as if tomorrow is too late, it's not that bad; move every moment fueled with everything you got - every small untargeted vector turn to watch in the same direction. Come not like drops of salty water, but like a sea itself. Flying arrow knows no regrets, run and be joyous while you are temporary healthy and sane and free and loved and not exhausted - be drunk with it. If you do have a pet - take proper care of it so living fun 4-15 years of it's life would be more important that days or a few months of pain and fading. Same goes for people, methinks.

21:46 - In MCU (Manly Cinematic Universe) Lore, “Ghost T-Pose Cop” is a supporting character with various roles throughout the series, later revealed to be the long lost brother-in-law of protagonist “ManlyBadassHero”. As a stereotypical New York Cop who plays things ‘by the book’ and hates ‘those dang kids and their ANIME’, he serves as a foil to Manly, who considers him “Useless!”, and the two have come into conflict on many occasions. First appearing as an antagonist in Season 4, Ghost travels to Japan as the American representative to InterPol in the wake of the infamous ‘Shibuya Incident’, where he is assigned as Lead Investigator.

Some KZreadrs fake a scream when they get jumpscared ..Well it don't offend me or get on my nerves but making unnatural stuff make the video less pleasing to watch and since its not natural we easily guess that they randomly shouted.
