Miss Italy! Miss Curacao! ❤

For me in this round, back then and now: Venezuela, Italy, Puerto Rico, Curaçao, Panama - the gowns but most of all how they wore them, as this is what must be mainly judged. One of the greatest ever evening gown competitions at Miss Universe. Mesmerizing.

Italy the best.... it was one of the best walking in miss universe pageant... I liked Venezuela so elegant, Curacao, and Trinidad and Tobago!!!

Sorry... I have to disagree. She is gorgeous and won the interview competition at both USA and Universe, which is the overall most important portion. Her gown was funky yet elegant and different. It definitely suited a Hawaiian beauty queen.

VENEZUELA'S GOWN IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember reading it costed like $15,000 made by Angel Sanchez. Exquisite. Italy's walk is sublime, as is Curacao's face.

Absolutely. But Miss Venezuela completed the job and complimented by wearing it and presenting it well. That's the important thing. Very elegant, sexy, classy, strong yet a vulnerability. Her presentation in that gown is always remembered. Both Venezuela and Puerto Rico have light, sheer gowns and it is higher risk as you cannot hide behind that type of gown. Both did a fine job with their gowns.

Don’t blame Trump. Look at the unethical scoring done by Herrera. She gave Curaçao an 8.9 because she knew she was serious competition to Venezuela.

Miss Venezuela looks like a cinderella!

Puerto Rico's hair looked soooo nice when worn down during the EG round. She should have worn it this way even during the swimsuit round (she wore it up during SS).

Fierce battle between Panama and Estonia for that final 6th finalist spot, I think Panama's interview was the clincher, she scored much higher than Estonia I think in SF interview

Can we please go back to these type of evening gown competitions? Gosh, the runway set up is overdone. Realistically, women aren't going to runway shows in evening gowns. They are attending weddings and black tie events with staircases.

Carolina Herrera (from Venezuela) was such a biased judge. She scored everyone at least a full point below Venezuela in each round. Venezuela got a 9.90 from her in both swimwear and gown. After all that Venezuela still lost. 🤣🤣🤣

La estrategia de Carolina Herrera de otorgar bajos puntajes a todas excepto a Miss Venezuela no le resultó, tal parece que nadie le informó que el puntaje más alto y más bajo se eliminan y se promedia el resto y como los suyos fueron los más bajos se eliminaron al igual que darle el más alto a Marena también se elimino

Su respuesta en el top 6 la dejó fuera, similar situación se vivió en el Miss Usa 1997 en donde Florida iba ganado y desoues de la entrevista en el top 6 queda fuera del top 3

Los jurados tenian a miss italia para ganar pero con esas respuestas tan secas... la tuviera que descartar.

PANAMA’s Lia Borrero would later win in the Miss INTERNATIONAL 1998.

Herrera's scores were so out of line with all of the other judges each and every time. It was obvious she was abusing her authority trying to help Bencomo win.

Well, Carolina Herrera is an international designer and socialite, she was voting based on the candidate’s beauty, elegance and stage presence. You obviously know nothing about any of that.

The evening gowns in this competition are exceptionally beautiful and fabulous unlike any past or present Miss U pageants, except perhaps for Miss India which was and Misses Trinidad & Tobago where, from the colors alone drown in their skin tones!

Denny Méndez from Italy should've won this Miss Universe. Plain and simple.

Italy needs to be eating Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Cheese Biscuits and Chocolate Cake. So overrated. Didn't get her at all. Plus, she had a smug arrogance that was not appealing. Her over confidence didn't help her and her interviews were mediocre.

More thoughts: India’s gown would have worked better for her if she hadn’t worn the jacket over it. Why was Trinidad and Tobago hauling draperies? Miss Estonia looked like a porn actress. She was awful. And again, Herrera giving everyone scores in the 800s except Venezuela whom she gave 990? Venezuela was cold as ice. Not my favorite gown on Brooke Lee but she pulled it off with her charm! She was ultimately the best choice and I was so happy she won. Panama was gorgeous too.

Carolina herrera no fue justa, a todas les dio menos 9, a la unica que le dio mas de 9.50 fue a su compatriota!
