I remember watching this back in 1989. I loved Holland and felt she would win, but was secretly hoping Sweden would take the crown. Fun fact, Miss Germany, Andrea Steltzer, was 1st runner up in the Miss South Africa pageant twice before being crowned Miss South Africa on her 3rd attempt. South Aftica was banned from Miss Universe at the time, so she entered the Miss Germany contest (her dad was German). She really wanted that title. She still looks fabulous today.

Meter a México en el top 5 y en México era lo menos que podían hacer para pagar el error de 1988. Amanda era la verdadera ganadora. Un error denunciado por los mismos jueces, un error real. No como el "robo" ficticio de los peruanos en 2020 jajaja

Fun fact... Miss Holland Angela Visser competed in Miss World 1988 where she was unplaced. Her preliminary score place her in 13th/14th place, though only top 10 were allowed to move on on the finals night. Sandra Foster Miss Jamaica competed in Miss World 1991 where she was 3rd runner up

Yes Sweden and Finland were former powerhouse, dominating 1950s to 1980s. Finland last high achievement was third in Miss Universe 1996 and Sweden top 5 in Miss World 2007

I preferred Sweden's face over Holland but Holland had the edge in other categories. Probably the loveliest, most stunning Top Five ever in the history of Miss Universe. Each could have won the crown but, only one can win of course.
