How maddening the writers are for stringing fans along. Their relationship is simply not healthy at the most basic level, with all the toxicity. This is a strong sign to stay apart. Eliza is tiers higher in class and character. Physical attraction takes you only so far and can easily become repelling. But viewers keep getting strung along, sucked with hopes. Maybe after these two are old and grey they can find their way back together.

I'm obsessed with these two characters ❤️. One of the best duos I have seen in a TV series.

Why can't they kiss and share their feelings? Would that be so terrible? They could work together so beautifully. Please don't disappoint us.

It's interesting that the scene at the jewelry shop, the scene where William suggests they continue their monthly dinners and the scene where Eliza says she'd like a simple ring wrapped up with a nice bow and William says "I'll keep that in mind!' all happened before Arabella dumped him!

🤔 - Great catch and pivotal scene!! Poor William he was so conflicted and confused. Perhaps he should go the coast and allow the sea wind and air help clear his mind. He could use some time for introspection and reflection. What a wonderfully maddening gorgeous creature he is!!! 😳😆😍❤️💋💯

Continuing their monthly dinners, because William has been missing Eliza's company. He doesn't seem to get into his head, that Eliza has been avoiding him. Not only has he taken up fornicating with Arabella, but is rubbing ARRabella into Eliza's face, for not accepting her dinner invitations. William keeps proving he's a lousy friend and a cad to both the ladies. He is offering himself to Eliza as a consolation prize with the monthly dinners. Having Arabella in his life enlarged his ego, elevated him in the eyes of his colleagues. He's probably hoping Eliza will be his mistress. He is only thinking of himself. Eliza, with her higher sensibilities and intelligence, would not just settle for anything, period. Especially not him as a consultation prize. I was surprised Wm had that type of swagger in him.

@@marlenesheffield8777 He most certainly needs to get it together. At this point, he is not good for any woman until he can figure out what he really wants. It wasn't Arabella. I thought the whole Arabella storyline was just gross and it made me lose respect for William's character. I may or may not watch Season Four after all of that.

Alright, I get that they probably fear their friendship is gonna change forever and probably think the other won't take their feelings seriously enough, but they already take good care of each other, so it's about time! I wish they showed their first kiss on a flashback, it would be funny to see their teenage versions

What romance?😜. I certainly didn't see anything, maybe the S2 finale was heart tugging, when Eliza was looking at the clock at the engagement party. But so were the scenes at the hospital with a more loosely shirted of Patrick steamed up my telie.

So excited the fandom is getting a Season 4!! My fan fantasy is that the dark and smouldering actor, Aidan Turner and Ben Barnes, are added to the cast and they are both are pursuing her.😳😜🤣 William received his "comeuppance" in the Season 3 Finale -- but on the real, he brought it on himself. He basically was called on his crap by the women in his life because he thought he was going to "have his cake and eat it too.". Oh well -- he will survive.😆 I would like to see personal growth for Eliza and William; it would be nice to see Eliza experience a courtship with a man who cares and adores her. Specifically, a wealthy man who will give her the world. She needs a relationship point of reference being a single and professional woman. She needs some real adult experiences. Okay getting off my soapbox now. All in all, Season 3 was lovely and highly entertaining. I am so grateful and thankful for all of the wonderful TV viewing choices that PBS offers. My second favorite mystery is Vienna Blood. Looking forward to Sanditon and Tom Jones this spring!! 💣💥🧡❤️💋💯

Where did she say that? These insiders think it's their duty not to fail the hopes of loyal shippers whose lives seemed wrapped around it. Did they tell anyone about the great treat they will be handed in Arabella?

I think we will see Season 4 as a period of growth for both of them. For one, Eliza has realized up close and personal that she is in love with William, but she's not the only woman of interest. I think Williams courting Arabella woke her up fast. Perhaps she needs to stay away from him to .grow up. She quietly and firmly told him off with "And Arabella would be content with that?" and was probably something the earlier Eliza would have not said. She would have taken him back just to have him in her life. As for William, he's been rejected by two women in the same day! Or at least it looks that way after editing. That is a blow to anyone's ego, and he would be no exception. I expect the fourth Season will be them apart, growing up and learning (painfully no doubt!) how to come back together. Now this is just me, but the way he 'described how he proposed" in Episode 6 would be a great way to end the series. Not that I want it to end, but the reality is the slow burn the writers are forcing on us is just becoming irritating and their relationship is backsliding. So either there is progress, or the fans will move on.

Looks as if it will be Patrick Nash filling up the hole in Eliza's heart in S4. Not in a full flung romance, because Patrick will keep an eye on how she feels about her inspector. Patrick is no fool.

I totally agree! He's grown on me so much this season, and I think that would be a nice match for Eliza. They work together well, he respects her, and they seem to understand each other.

Ahhh I was looking for someone else who made this comment! I 100% agree with you and love the chemistry between them. As much as I enjoy the friendship between the Duke and Eliza, like Stuart Martin said, given period attitudes they would both need to change themselves a lot to be what the other actually wants in terms of a partner. I actually thought he and Arabella were quite suited in that respect -- in terms of what they both wanted from a relationship. Nash has respected Eliza as an equal professionally and personally from the very start and never wavered in his conviction of her abilities, instead of treating her like a child like the Duke would do in earlier seasons and sometimes still does. Nash and Eliza would kick ass together and he would help her loosen up and have more fun! Too bad the show is named "Ms. Scarlet and the Duke" so you know where it's got to go in the end. ;) Even so I'm still a dedicated fan no matter who she ends up with!

@@lainal3960 Your comment is perfect, I have nothing to add😄👏👏 Totally agree! Maybe they can change the name and after all we will be able to see "Miss Scarlet and mister Nash" or even better "Missis and mister Nash" 😂 Let Duke stay with Arabella.

The moment she see's the small box with a bow on her desk you could see the excitement and fear because she thought it was from William. When it's from Nash I think she lashed out because of the disappointment.

Would love to see them together, but I fear that may be the end of the show. In the meantime at least let them acknowledge how they feel about one another.

Great writing. Please take your time & let them each grow. Maybe someday or, maybe someday they'll decide they can do better, long term, as siblings. The whole production is amazing. Thank you.

A lot was revealed in Season Two about who was the real romantic. While they were in a jewelry shop Inspector Wellington describes to Eliza & the jeweler how he proposed. Very detailed. Very impressive.

sorry just your opinion!! There were better episodes in Season 1 and 2, and Duke was GONE for two episodes. In a six episode season that is unforgiveable.

I was hoping for Jack romance. He was quite the redeemable arc. But then he went to Paris. I think it is because people like him too much. And it's called Miss Scarlet and the Duke. But Jack would have made Duke jealous.

What I have watched of the series.. However, Eliza wants to be a little independent woman who is not too much under the man "William" but also longs for closeness which she does not want to admit. I hope their roles and characters don't get too close.. otherwise the tension will be lost. Let's hope that William would also be a little jealous of Eliza. So when Moses said choose one option.. while Eliza has more than one dream. Maybe Eliza will choose the detective agency that was suggested to her.. I hope that her father's legacy will not be left. I hope that partly the same actors.. but also new ones to make William resent Eliza. 😁

I always said that I wanted to see a show/movie/series where the guy didn't get the girl and it happened in Sanditon. When Sydney and Charlotte didn't get together I was quite upset. Though William is quite full of himself as was Sydney...could this happen again with Eliza and William? I guess we will see. In both series, both women were strong in their opinions and thoughts. They knew who they were. Both men in these series are strong men in their opinions and thoughts especially with how women are to be so submissive. Personally, I'd like to see Eliza's business really takes off and leave William in the dust by telling him she doesn't need him. Why? Because she has had time to figure out more of who she is and she is successful in her business and no longer needs William or any man to help carry her. She's a strong and good business woman in a man's world. I'm not saying this to put men down but come on... let's start seeing more women standing on their own and making a way for themselves. After all, we see it every day in the times we live in.

I agree. This show would be a total joke if it's purpose was to have someone like Eliza take William back after he shat the bed. Yes, the writers made him look that bad. And, it's not as if within a season he changes his nature? It's clearly not in his DNA. He's a proven oaf, philanderer, alcoholic, bitter, insecure, untrustworthy, misogynist, backbiter, pigheaded, ignorant.

Iwant him to kiss her and tell her that he loves her

Honestly? This whole series is simply fiction. This simply coudn't happened in real world in 19th century uk or even today's uk. Fact. Some parts are possible. But, mostly, pure and simply fiction.
