She is the next year. She said in an appearance she didn't make it onto television, but she actually does appear for a few seconds.

I used to watch this every year with my mom. My mom has passed away but I still like to watch it.

This is indeed the very first time that I watched the Miss America Pageant without my family members in the same living room. So I was able to zoom in all aspects of the pageant, without feeling self conscious about enjoying this wonderful Sept event. Oh how well, do I remember hundreds of details about the show that come back so crystal clear today. This includes the delightful "Everybody Can't Be a Winner" quartet. Pageants Hayday, God bless you for posting this video and bringing back so many memories for me.

I remember that Miss Hawaii won the Talent Competition during the night she competed in the preliminary contest. she also became 4th runner up among the five finalists

Announcing the five finalists, Bert says the names are being announced alphabetically. After "Miss Ohio," he calls "Miss North Carolina."

It should be noted that during the swimsuit competition, the swimsuits were required to have 'the flap' to insure modesty 'down there'. Who would have thought that years later these young women were allowed to wear (oh my God) bikinis

1:29:25 Last time a fire baton act was allowed. Watch closely and you'll see why.

I think the flaming baton nearly landed in the judge's pit!

An act more suited for the Ed Sullivan show era!

Sadly Miss Hawaii blew it in the last question. She just said 4 words and sat down. Maybe she thought it was a short answer interview.

I noticed that Bert Parks' attitude was different towards Miss Hawaii. He wasn't as "informal" as he was to the others when he talked to them.

Canada was considered a neighbor because at the time it was mostly white with some native Americans just a few blacks also an English speaking country that like America is a former British colony Mexico different language different race of people a culture more different from ours even now I think most people think of Canada as a neighbor not foreign country because of our similarities

There is also an element of racism involved here many Americans feel superior to Hispanics

Miss Ohio sang beautifully. The other girls who sang were loud and flat sounding

I detected some bad vibes between Bert Parks and Arlene Dahl.
