*Read THIS before filling your child's updated glasses prescription in traditional single vision glasses OR contact lenses!*
Did you know that while traditional single vision glasses/contact lenses for correcting nearsightedness can help the child see clearly, the traditional lens design can contribute to the child's increase in nearsightedness progression?!
Thankfully, Coopervision’s MiSight 1 day soft contact lenses can simultaneously allow the nearsighted child to see clearly in all gazes AND is highly effective in slowing the increase of nearsightedness.
In this video, I will review and discuss the following:
- What is myopia/nearsightedness? What can cause it to increase and how can we counter it?
- What is Coopervision’s MiSight 1 day contact lens design and how effective is it in myopia control?
- Who are good candidates for wearing the MiSight 1 day lenses?

    Hi, I am not not of what to do at this moment. We wanted to try the Misight contact lens for my daughter, though I didn't know that it has to be up until-6. Her prescription was -7.75 and she couldn't fit the contact lens at 8 years old. So we were asked to go for MiyoSmart glasses which works equally to slow down the progression. She is 10 years old now and her prescription is at -9.25 on the right and left is -8.25. I am confused on what to do at this point. Please respond. Thanks

    Please read my response to a similar case in the comments to this video to an account called ‘AJ’ regarding multi-focal contact lenses as a possible means for myopia control for children with high myopia. Hope it helps!

    Hi, doctor. Today I got my contact lenses for myopia control and I’m very happy. I used to do ortho k, but disliked it. But I have a question, how many hours do you have to wear this contract lenses?

  • @mommydear

    @mommydear

    Based on the clinical study, MiSight lenses should be worn for a minimum of 10 hours per day for at least 6 days per week. They are not recommended for overnight wear.

    My daughter she’s 16 years old and she currently using ortho-k. Is she good candidate for MiSight 1 day.. The reason why I want her to change to MiSight because she doesn’t wear her ortho-K lenses for 8 hours during school day. Please advise me what’s best way to do for her eye. Thanks

    For proper assessment of whether your daughter is a good candidate for MiSight lenses, you would need to have her seen by a local optometrist that dispenses MiSight lenses. The major consideration is whether her prescription (after she stops wearing orthokeratology lenses) is within the range that MiSight lenses can correct for. The optometrist will answer that for you.

    Thank you for the helpful information. I was going to ask you if these contact lenses were available in the US, but unfortunately they wouldn't work for my daughter. Her prescription is -7.75 in her left eye and -5.75 in her right eye, and I know she has a stigmatism in both of her eyes. I enjoy your videos on myopia control.

    Depending on the age of your daughter, you can consider using multi-focal soft contact lenses as a way to correct and control myopia for her. Although not achieving as high of a rate of myopia control as MiSight lenses, it does show clinically significant myopia control effects over children wearing traditional single vision glasses or contact lenses. Your daughter does need to be old enough to safely insert and remove the contacts herself (at least 8yrs old+). You can learn more about this option in the link below: www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/multifocal-contact-lenses-slow-myopia-progression-children Hope this helps and all the best! ❤️

    @@mommydear Thank you so much. Yes, that does help. She was 10 at her last eye exam, but she's 11 now. I will talk to her about contacts and see what she thinks. At her last eye exam she couldn't stand the thought of having to stick anything in her eye, but now that she's a little older she might be okay with it?

    @@TruckDriver2005depending on your daughter's astigmatism, she could potentially either use Naturalvue Multifocal, Biofinity Toric Multifocal or Mylo Toric. Ask your ECP. Sincerely, an optometrist

    Dr. Huang, according to your video if an 8 years old child with SPHERE = - 2.0, CYL = -1.0 does not qualify for MiSight treatment. Is that correct ?

  • @mommydear

    @mommydear

    2 жыл бұрын

    There is no correction of astigmatism with MiSight lenses. Once the cylinder in the child’s prescription reaches a significant level (~ -1.00D and above), vision will likely be compromised when the astigmatism is not corrected for. If MiYOSMART lenses are not available where you are, you may consider multifocal contacts as a good alternative method of myopia control for your child. You can learn more about this option with the articles below: www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/add-multifocals-to-your-myopia-toolbox www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/multifocal-contact-lenses-slow-myopia-progression-children

    @@mommydear am confused. so MiSight can NOT fix this child's myopia, correct ?

  • @mommydear

    @mommydear

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@tango9944 It is not the ideal method since your child's astigmatism exceeds -0.75D and MiSight does not come with astigmatism correction. That is why it might be helpful to consider the multifocal contact lenses instead for myopia control for your child. Please refer to my previous response to access the research behind it.
