An unrelated conversation with Mark Losey ( / @marklosey7337 ) lead to the idea of hosting his documentary on what used to be the epicenter for competitive BMX in Greenville, North Carolina. Definitely a great piece that sums up a time in BMX with the people who made a massive impact on BMX as a whole. RIP Mirra & Winkelmann.
"How did a small town hidden in North Carolina become the epicenter of competitive action sports? And what happens when best friends become each other's main competition? With 34 pros and 21 Gold Medals, Greenville, North Carolina is unlike any town in any action sports."
WHAT IS OUR BMX?!
In short, we are the Ride BMX staff out on our own. We're building from the ground up and our goal is pretty simple. We want to continue what we love. We want to create great content, feature awesome riders, and contribute, push, and show why we love BMX. We sincerely appreciate any and all support... -Ryan Fudger, Jeff Zielinski, Adam Watkins, and Justin Benthien.

RIP Greenville. The Emerald City Has lost its lustre. First time I saw Dave ride I was walking to the bars tripping my balls off on Acid. It was night and he was riding the wall on 1st street kinda across from the town commons. The whole experience made me question reality. I kid you not. I was this is not humanly possible. I shared a back yard With Donnie god I can remember them fools had me woke up in the morning with the sound of him and his brother dropping in. Wow Donnie had a ramp even before this doc gives him credit for. I know for a fact he had one max latest would have been when I was 15 so in 83 1984 he always rode a scooter or whatever. Greenville was amazing. I mean I landscaped Dave's mansion then cut his grass as his regular house. Dave would go on golf trips with my pops and just old ass men. He said he would just chill and he couldn't play golf worth a piss and it really really bothered him he was that competitive. Nyquist sold me his original haro at a yard sale. He had wrecked it and hurt himself first time he rode it and he put a big ol lock and chain on it. Dude was so humble he sold that bike to me for 70 bucks. What a time to be alive. All these dudes were just awesome. No judgement in Greenville. Party hard for young whatever that was truly the attitude. PeaCe

Dave Mirra, the miracle boy. The one that got me into following amd riding BMX. RIP Miracle boy
"If you build it, they will come" They should make a movie about this amazing story.
Wow. Remembering my childhood room full of Ride BMX posters and bmx plus posters.
Watching this bring back so much memory. These new generation don’t know how lucky they are now lol, our bikes were heavy
The way they talk about everyday riding and having fun by pushing each other to see if we can do more and harder tricks with what feels like no worries I truly do miss. Good old days
i always loved dave mirra. ever since i was a little hoodlum bmx'r in the mean streets on NY thinking i was the man when i could jump higher than anyone else on the dirt ramps we had all over town. (but i couldnt 360 to save my life).. I never knew Dave Mirra was the reason Greenville was on the map. I also never knew he was from NY. i figured he was from Cali like almost everyone else. To watch this though was awesome. so much awesome knowledge packed into this video. whoever made it is amazing. and so many people love it. Bmx will always be my life. even though i havent had a bike since it was stolen a few years ago, and now im so hurt at 34 y/o that i can barely walk most days. But that bmx mindset will always be who i am. and it was because of dave mirra and ryan nyquist more than any other pro name. RIP Dave Mirra. RIP Colin Winkelman NEVER forgotten. My great grandkids will be forced to watch your videos on their holographic mind projection devices. as long as im alive their memory will never die.
This is legit my childhood right here. From the magazines, posters, videos, etc... Im shaking now watching this video.
I was down visiting Jaycee Park on Tuesday. It was great to walk such a legendary spot. I had the privilege of hanging out with Scott Wirch and Scooter Don a few years ago while I was photographing the Trans Jam BMX tour. Good guys for sure. It's a shame I didn't get the chance to meet Dave, but still...it's awesome to be close to where so many legends got their start. Long live BMX.
I recall being the biggest Mike Dominguez fan...then came Matt Hoffman and wow, how he changed the sport! Then Dave started beating Matt at the X-Games and how could you not love this guy? Amazing style, incredible airs and ballsy like nobody's business. These guys and many more have progressed the sport to a level I never thought was possible when I rode back in the 80's. This was an excellent video, thanks for all involved who put it together. Dave was a legend of legends, RIP

I spent my childhood at Jaycee Park. Lived right behind eastern elementary and spent many days watching Dave and the boys killing it. He was the coolest guy and never hesitated to talk with you and give you tips. One of the best times of my childhood right there at that park. RIP Dave mirra

“Colin Winkleman was crazy” is an understatement. I was at Central Skate park when Props was filming Road Fools 7. Colin did this air to wall tap and back in(watch the video, it made the edit) that I still cannot understand how he did it. It was so huge. He and Dave were good dudes. RIP...
Great trip down memory lane ! RIP. Mira & Winkleman !!! See y’all at the great skatepark in the sky guys !!!
Thank you so freaking much for posting this. I'm born and bred North Carolina. 45 mins from pro town. Glad to see some history of my back yard. Thanks again
2024 still missing dave Forever and inspiration Im 38 and still riding , you brother , you are the legend that keeps me on the bike Much love mate
This brings me back to my younger years. BMX was life back then. Glad to learn more about everyones story.
2nd or 3rd time watching this! Love it and wish I could have been so lucky as to have lived in Greenville with those legends during that time. A friend of mine, Lane George, was one of those kids who was fortunate enough to be there. Thanks so much for posting this documentary, it's such a treat to see. RIP Colin and Dave.
weird to hear Dave talk about Colin's death. A couple years later Dave dose the same thing. Im still hurt by these guys cant imagine how there family's feel.
@Runescape.

yeah because for these guys when they get old they cant do the one thing they love anymore. BMX takes more of a toll on you than skaeboarding or any other xtreme sport. when the bike hits you or you crash over the bars you get really screwed up. so these guys get older and cant compete anymore, cant do the same tricks anymore. go watch the tony hawk video of him at 50 years old trying to do the 900 again, he falls like 30 times and is about to give up. because when you get older you just cant do what you did when you were younger. these guys got to see the best times and the worst times and unfortunately they cant handle the bad times.

Yeah its especially crazy when u watch Dave Mirras trick tips. And you realize half the stars in that video are dead.
I was born Greenville in 60s.. Grew up a few blocks from Jaycee Park....We had a whole crew of kids with dirt bikes in the late 70s that rode all around that area...so many great places to ride.....left in 82 came back in 99...Grimsland and Washington right down the street..Waterskiing and beer all weekend..Always a fun place with lots of women....So glad I grew up there.....Its so cool seeing these kids enjoying what we all knew about GVegas! 20 years prior...
I grew up on my BMX bike, I saw so many videos during the 90's, Dave was a real miracle with what he did on his bike! He was BMX! So great to see this video nearly 25 years later, especially after what hast happened. Thanks for showing!
Glad I grew up in the the same neighborhood dave and Ryan moved into bless to see the legends
how many emotions can one go through in 45 minutes and 26 seconds? I am actually older than some of my heros and it doesn't bother me at all... These guys are the real super athletes of the world, even moreso than the moto-crossers.... RIP D&C... The world is STILL watching you!!!
down memory lane for sure. loved seeing the few clips of 401 gosh i also didnt know about the drama between the two warehouses just amazing
Dude the old gt zoot scoot. The days of old. AWSOME
What a bloody amazing documentary. I never understood the significance of Greenville, and I used to think all the 90's bmx was Gumby, now that I'm almost 30 those OG bmx riders look more nuts and skilled than half of the psychos we have out there today. I really do appreciate all the hard work these guys put in to make bmx what it is Love from Aus ❤️

Wow and I grew up in VA just a few hours from this and never knew it while I was shredding the pavement in NoVa wishing we had ramps and a park... I missed out on a great opportunity, how my life might have turned out differently..... RIP Legends of BMX, thanks for all the wows.
This is so cool. Makes me realize how long I've been riding
Just texted one of my buddies that’s in this video. Crazy how many stories he’s told me that matches up with this documentary.
This story is crazy. I'm just glad I had a 4 guy group and had jumps in the woods.
Moving to Greenville to go to ECU I assumed the only great things to touch that town were the school and the Vidant health facilities. So cool to see some rich history from the action sports world and how it was such a big contribution to what bmx is today.
Bmx thrives when you have people giving back to their bmx community. The Greenville scene was simply guys putting effort into their scene and this small town has turned into one of the most famous places in the sport.
I wAs there back then ,great times! Some of the best years of my life!
We had same scene but with skateboarding thru the 80’s. I had a schwinn “predator” bmx always dreaming of the Hutch “Trickstar” but we fell in love with the skateboard. I always wanted bmx to grow but we were from a small town and couldnt afford $1k for bikes! We just needed $50 bux every couple weeks for a new deck & tape and we were good. We had local a shop/park with 6’ half pipe, 4’ spine ramp,& 10’ vert ramp & it was heaven! I miss the 80’s so bad because this was the best of times!#RememberWhen#BMX#🛹#the80’sRule
The animal house...... the greenville park .... im almost crying ....
You don't see stuff like this anymore.😥
Thank you so much for this. I’m a regular at Jaycee, My friends and I skate there typically every night so this was nice. Also went to Dave’s house when I was elementary school. Rest In Peace to the man himself.

You guys knocked it out the park with this little video of such a historic place and talented pioneers ! Rest In Peace Dave and Colin! I see also why Ty Mo went there to get huge with his riding too. Bunch of ramp destroyers!
Colins tripple back flip to the rail crash during xgames (possibly dew tour) was unforgettable !. Rip dude!.
I paused my proquest on Dave Mirra Freestyle Bmx to watch this. Great video
I remember meeting most of these guys on the Slim Jim Tour in Lakewood NJ at The Incline club.
A great watch. Growing up seeing all the Greenville video parts and magazine photos was a big part of bmx for me.
Great memories,my time for riding...still to this day...rest in piece Dave ❤
One of the best video docks I've seen about BMX so many good memories so many good times thanks for the good video R.I.P Dave and Collin
Dave and Haro saved BMX in the 90s and early 2000s like Eddie Fiola did for GT and Woody Itson did did for Hutch Trevor Hernandez and the rest of the OGs in the late 70s and 80s but those guys from the '80s even though they did set the bar will never be as good as technical and as fearless as Dave mirra or Ryan Nyquist or Matt Hoffman or any of those guys. If you've never visited this town and you're on the East Coast then it's a must check it out. Greenville North Carolina is awesome. I'm from Charleston South Carolina which isn't but a few hours away. These guys revolutionized BMX as we know it today right down the road from my house. I'm 49 years old and still ride. Great video guys one of the best I've seen so far
Great video, being a haro guy since day one. I'm a huge Dave and Ryan fan. Greenville is iconic man 🤙
I never knew anything about Nyquist and Mirra having any beef. This was a cool in depth documentary of the Greenville scene.
I had that first poster of dave on my bedroom wall man those were the days
Watching this with my morning coffee. Great riding great people thanks for sharing!
I didnt want this doc to end !
Amazing documentary, thanks for posting it.
damn thanks for posting this! always loved it
In high school on the outer banks, trips to G'ville were like going to LA or NYC, I knew from my junior year that I was gonna move there as soon as I graduated! So many loose chicks, dirt cheap pizza, etc... I think ECU was number 1 on Playboy's top party school list for a few years in a row?! Such a fun plac for being such a small town!
The fact ive rode that back in the day with the Dowell brothers ...
🤘🏾I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of these guys back in the day, great times & memories , Steve Nowak and I worked together at RAMPAGE SKATE PARK & often rode street together & had great after hours sessions at the park, damn those were the best days of my life, getting old sucks lol !!! I am from bridgwater Somerset England and went all over England to ride bmx. I am at very hard times now, in lots of pain and relying on foodbanks. I was a fine bmxer back in the early to late 90s, i was a junkie bmxer. Boff jock sharpy alex hicksey ian boots .best i ever seen was the A class ridger, we flipped the spine at king of koncrete.
Cuts me up hearing about Colin. And then when Dave talks about Colin that cuts me deep too.
Does anyone from the Greenville crew remember doing a (2) bike show at Bikes USA in Durham, NC in 1998 or 1999? You all brought the whole crew and ramps. We closed off the parking lot for (2) days and Dave, Tim, Laird and a bunch of others performed and then Dave signed autographs in the bike shop, right around the time Dave's new Haro bike line came out (Mirra Pro). It was absolutely awesome and I share it with my kids all the time.
