Meryl Streep said in an interview once that she observed the male actors she co-starred with and saw their silent demeanour as scary and dominating, every one would stop and listen and be intimidated. So she portrayed Miranda this way.

The older I get, the more I see that Miranda priestly was actually extremely patient with her employees. It’s a high pressure job where everyone has to deliver results right away. It’s annoying for people to be unprepared, lagging behind, or not have the right info that they’re expected to have

  • @roisinnigcrainn7722

_Exactly._ I'm getting into journalism myself and I cannot stress the importance of scheduling. If you're incapable of staying on that rigid schedule, if you can't get your work in on time, that's putting the entire publication at risk. Magazines and newspapers _have_ to have tight deadlines so they can send articles, stories and photos off for printing. Teams of people are relying on you to have your shit together, to have constant fresh ideas and to be a tireless worker. If you can't deal with that responsibility, this isn't the career path for you. And I say that in the politest way possible. Miranda was more patient and lenient with Andy than I would've been.

@@youthisreadwrong2274 Andy was a dumbass for screwing that job up. The twins were obviously lying, and she decided to listen to them instead of calling Emily for help. Gd knows Emily is probably on call 24/7 like everyone else And in doing so, Andy completely embarrassed Miranda. Miranda could have yelled at her, fired her on the spot, or found a way to embarrass her in front of her coworkers. Instead she gave her another challenge Is Miranda a good boss? No. Is she nice or at least reasonable? No. But some of the “nice” bosses I’ve worked for were not nearly as patient as this.

I'm not even kidding when I say our school dean in high school was EXACTLY LIKE THIS! Had the same hair color, haircut, attitude and fashion omfg. She was also tasked with interviewing all the students that applied for our school (coz we were kinda exclusive and had a limited student number) and I'm proud to say I kinda nailed that shit, coz she assigned me to the first section. There was a time in 7th grade where phones were banned, and whenever there's news that she's walking in the hallway, we would hide our phones (even threw mine outside near the plants) and collectively clean the room. 9th grade came, and she became our Physics teacher AND OMFG. She was fucking hilarious. We all had good grades coz we were assigned to answer by our seating arrangement and we all had fair chances. We understood her lessons, passed the exams, and literally loved her and laughed with her in class. Just not outside tho LMFAO. She even mentioned to us how she knew we were all just fake about the cleaning thingy whenever she was around and how we all greet her sweetly lmfao. She's one of my favorite teachers in High School. Thank you, Professor Capundo.

*It's amazing how different there is between Emily and Andrea, the way they talk to Miranda. Emily (For the admiration she has for Miranda), always when she goes to talk to Miranda, she gets nervous, And NEVER ask Miranda anything. But Andrea, she really asks, corrects if she needs to (just like the question of the name), isn't afraid, or speak whatever it is to Miranda (even if it sounds silly). Even in the interview, Andrea did not accept Miranda's "NO". This movie is an icon!* 😆

When a boss can scare you by yelling or puffing their chest, it's terrifying enough. When a boss can scare you in calm, measured voice without raising decibel nor yelling, that's a different level all together. Reminds me of the first time Steven Universe meets White Diamond.

My mom used to work for a big magazine and gave me the book version of Devil wears Prada when I was a kid. Back then I couldn't stand this character and felt bad for Endy but looking back at everything and remembering how mom's job was from an adult's standpoint everything makes sense. It's a job with many stressful responsibilities that will be dumped on you if you can't put your foot down and thus you'll be responsible for any delays and messups; not communicating demands and goals clearly with brevity & no room for compromise will disrupt the process across all other links in the production chain. Miranda literally had no choice other than behave the way she did, otherwise her enterprise would've gone tits up.
