    Alot of Norwegian krags were rechambered for .22 for indoor target shooting, although quite rare outside of Norway i'm afraid

  • @Kaboomf

    @Kaboomf

    Жыл бұрын

    That's what was commonly done on high round count receivers of questionable safety, after wearing out umpteen barrels. The .22 conversions are single shot, no magazine. They're simply made by having the rimfire bore offset at an angle, it exits the muzzle centered but at the chamber end it is off center in the upwards direction. This makes the standard extractor grab the rim at the 12 o'clock position, while the centerfire firing pin strikes the rim at 6 o'clock. No changes to the bolt face needed. The firing pin needs to be shortened a bit so it won't strike the chamber mouth if dry fired, is all. Some Krags were modified to .22 while still in good condition, but like I said this was often seen as the best choice for worn out guns that had setback locking lugs and wouldn't hold headspace with full power ammo any more. Therefore, it's not a good idea to "un-bubba" a .22 Krag back to 6,5 even though the bolt and receiver appear perfectly normal.

    No bayonet lug? Not a problem as the cavalry always carried their swords with them. Isn't this who the carbines were created for initially? And if the enemy is that close with the other troops that needed a carbine-sized rifle, you have bigger issues than a bayonet would fix.

    I had one of these years ago, the trigger was very nice and the action was like glass, but the stock was cut behind the barrel band and the barrel was shot out. It's too bad, 6.5x55mm is an excellent cartridge, and a small, light carbine chambered for it would be wonderful
