That's the 'why?' I'm trying to understand; like maybe I'd get it if it was chambered in something more powerful that you'd want to trust in a period revolver design...and if it's just meant to be a target pistol, why the 2nd barrel?

  • @thefrenchgunsmith6488

@@AtholAnderson The worst part is that it's not just a targett pistol, it was adopted by the belgian police if I'm not mistaking (and that's why it is so rare and costly). And oddly enought at Liège (belgian Gunsmith town) they made a lot of civilian copies of this pistol. What a strange Era !

Each presentation of 19th century Euro pistols gives me a greater appreciation of the 1873 Colt Single Action Army revolver. Seriously. Even when the Euro pistols have features or quality that surpass the Colt, their size and ergonomics seem built for space aliens or lizard people. Maybe they were anticipating selling them to inbred aristocrats?

When I saw those twin exhaust tubes, I said "Say what? You have to be kidding!" In 1877, to adopt a double barrel rolling block sounds ridiculous. This thing makes the Reichsrevolver look like the apex of high technology, and compared to military service revolver in use like an Colt 1873 it's a joke. But you got to hand it to Mae for being able to model those well!

Really interesting, and quirky, pistol. A pity you can't select the barrels; that way one barrel could be loaded with a silver bullet for werewolves, and the other a bullet of cold iron wrapped around a fragment of the true cross for vampires. I mean, it really does look like Steampunk Monster Hunter's handgun. Okay, joking aside, why? If it was chambered for some big-game rifle calibre you could imagine it as a sort of European howdah pistol, but chambered in a fairly standard handgun cartridge? What is the point? Especially given that revolvers were now well established. Anyway, thank you to Mae for sharing.

I’d suggest looking into the Lefaucheux, Webley RIC, 1870 Gasser, and Chamelot-Delvigne. US revolver development was generally behind Europe from about the mid-1850s until about 1890
